Our second visit and still absolutely wonderful. Keneth and his team were first class looking after our ever need. The lodge itself is set in a stunning location and is thoughtfully laid out and tastefully decorated. The artwork both paintings and sculptures are everywhere. There’s loads to do and the guides are very knowledgeable. The Food first class. We would thoroughly recommend it.

This eco-lodge offers world-class facilities, impeccable service, and outstanding cuisine in an incomparable setting. The view from our room was magnificent, as were the sunrises and sunsets. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. They even arranged a private lunch on the beach for us.

After an exhilarating if a little bumpy speedboat ride to the lodge we were greeted warmly as we had been at the dock. We were generously upgraded to a casita with private deck and plunge pool for our 5 nights Our casita was fully equipped and slightly uphill from the reception and restaurant area enabling us to watch the peccaries and the bird life on the grass below us. The plunge pool was particularly enjoyed by the frogs, toads and harmless snakes with the naturalists able to save some frogspawn. The highlight of our stay was the sighting of a young male puma under the next door casita. Natasha, a young staff member, collected us from breakfast to show us the puma together with other staff members. He was only a few feet away and looked straight at us. It was an experience neither of us will ever forget and we know how special it was. Apparently his mother collected him during the night as had apparently happened previously. We went on various nature walks around the property with the incredibly knowledgeable Cindy and by ourselves. A visit to the farm and happy hens is a must. The bird life is exceptional. There were many other excursions available and all were enjoyed by our fellow guests. Service from all staff members is generous and superb . Particular heartfelt thanks are owed to Edwin and Natasha for making our stay so enjoyable. The restaurant meals were excellent and we particularly enjoyed our private candlelit dinner with lobster and giant prawns. We also enjoyed the cocktails, beers and south American wine. The reception staff were also very friendly and helpful sorting out very quickly a couple of minor issues. It was our favourite stay of our 23 nights trip to Costa Rica and Panama. We thoroughly recommend you stay there.

Our stay at Playa Cativo Lodge was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found somewhere truly special — a luxury eco-lodge that perfectly balances being beautifully off-the-grid while still offering every creature comfort. The service was exceptional across the board. Every single team member made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. A very special thank you to Mike, Natasha, Alonso, Kenneth, and Alessandro — each of them went above and beyond to ensure our stay was seamless, personalized, and unforgettable. Their warmth, attentiveness, and pride in the property shine through in everything they do. The food deserves its own standing ovation. Every meal was fresh, beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. You can taste the quality and thoughtfulness in every dish. Dining here feels both elevated and deeply connected to the natural surroundings. The property itself is stunning. The grounds are pristine and meticulously maintained, yet thoughtfully preserved to protect the surrounding habitat and natural beauty. It truly embodies what an eco-lodge should be. The commitment to sustainability is real — they generate their own electricity, provide filtered water, and operate with a deep respect for the environment. Wi-fi was also included and worked exceptionally well for this very remote location. The rooms are gorgeous, well-appointed, and incredibly comfortable. While there is no air conditioning, it honestly isn’t needed (most of the time). The natural ocean breeze combined with the thoughtfully placed fans keeps the rooms perfectly cool and comfortable. It enhances the immersive, nature-connected experience rather than detracts from it. They offer an impressive array of experiences, making it easy to blend relaxation with adventure. The only minor challenge we experienced was some communication difficulty prior to arrival. However, once on property, the team more than made up for it — they went above and beyond to accommodate every request and ensure our time was exactly what we hoped for. We were also fortunate enough to meet the owner, Mark, during our stay. Our conversation with him was warm, genuine, and memorable — a part of our stay that we will truly treasure. It speaks volumes about a place when the owner is present, engaged, and passionate about the experience guests are having. Playa Cativo Lodge is not just a place to stay — it’s a rare and special experience. If you are looking for a true luxury eco-retreat where you can unplug, reconnect with nature, and still enjoy comfort, beauty, and exceptional service, this is it. We cannot wait to return to explore even more that this magical place has to offer!
