Our stay at Playa Cativo Lodge was truly unforgettable!! The whole family enjoyed it! The lodge was a peaceful paradise and the perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature. What made the experience even more special was the amazing staff members. Everyone was so warm and attentive, and we especially want to thank Mike, Alonso, Cindy, Natasha, and Ivan for their exceptional hospitality. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. We left with wonderful memories and would highly recommend Playa Cativo Lodge to anyone looking for a unique and peaceful escape in Costa Rica.

Playa Cativo is genuinely one of the most incredible places I’ve stayed in the world, and I’ve traveled to over 30 countries. From the moment the trip started, the experience already felt special. Flying in with SANSA Airlines from San José was an adventure on its own, with breathtaking views that instantly set the tone for the trip. Once we landed, the Playa Cativo staff picked us up from the airport, and then came one of the most magical parts of the journey: a beautiful 30 minute boat ride through the water to the resort. It honestly felt like entering another world before we even stepped foot onto the property. When we arrived, we were welcomed with drinks and instantly felt at home. The atmosphere was unreal, peaceful, cinematic, and unlike anywhere else I’ve experienced. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making every moment special. They organized amazing activities for us including surfing, kayaking, and paddle boarding, which made the stay even more unforgettable. The rooms were beautiful and constantly kept spotless. Every time we came back, the beds were perfectly made, towels refreshed, and everything felt luxurious and relaxing. Even the small details like the soaps and amenities were top tier. What made it even more special was how fresh and authentic everything felt. They have their own farm, the eggs were fresh, the food was fresh, and you could truly taste the quality in everything. Playa Cativo is the kind of place that makes you slow down, disconnect, and appreciate life. Absolutely unforgettable experience.

We have traveled many places and never experienced better, kinder, warmer staff than at Playa Captiva. It made us feel so connected to the people and culture of Costa Rica. The experience of traveling there and back by boat made it extra special. The beauty of the lodge, the rainforest, and the Osa Peninsula is extraordinary.

I’ll admit it- I was skeptical when I first saw Playa Cativo Lodge’s perfect 5‑star rating. After spending a week there, I completely understand how they’ve earned it. This boutique, secluded resort is beautifully maintained and surrounded by lush, flowering trees, vibrant plants, and an incredible variety of birds and wildlife. Everywhere we looked felt like a postcard brought to life. We were initially unsure about the open‑air villas. We prefer cool rooms at night, and the idea of no air‑conditioning gave us pause. In the end, it became one of the highlights of our stay. Sleeping immersed in the jungle, hearing the birds, the soft rustling of wildlife, and waking up to nature’s soundtrack- was unforgettable. Morning coffee, delivered quietly to our door each day, paired with the fragrance of tropical flowers drifting through the villa, created a level of relaxation I didn’t know was possible. The spa was another standout- especially the masseuse Daisie. We enjoyed a couple’s massage, and the natural backdrop of signing birds and distant howler monkeys made the experience feel completely unique- luxury woven seamlessly into the jungle environment. The staff deserves special recognition. Every single person we met was warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in making our stay exceptional. Mike, in particular, was incredibly gracious- crafting custom drinks for us each day (pineapple/mango coladas with tequila instead of rum became a favorite). Spending time with the Costa Rican team members, learning about their culture and families, added a meaningful personal dimension to the trip. And then there’s the food. Truly extraordinary. Every dish- from appetizers to desserts- was consistently impressive, especially considering how remote the lodge is. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Playa Cativo earn Michelin recognition someday- the chefs are that talented. One day we brought back fresh yellowfin tuna, and the kitchen turned it into the best sashimi I’ve ever had, followed by perfectly grilled tuna for dinner. Another day, we returned with a black snapper, and the chef prepared it whole at our request—absolutely spectacular. Much of the produce comes directly from the lodge’s own farm, which you can tour during your stay. Most guests stay three or four days, but I’m grateful we stayed longer. It gave us time to fully settle into the rhythm of this incredible place and appreciate everything it offers. Playa Cativo Lodge is, without question, one of the most memorable vacations I’ve ever had. If you’re considering it, go—and stay as long as you can. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This place is fantastic if you want a secluded spot away from everyone else. The food/meals were fantastic. Every meal and snack they accommodated my girlfriend’s gluten and dairy free diet. Morning coffee left outside the door by 5:30am. Great wildlife, snorkeling, their own organic farm, etc. Every corner of the property offered opportunities to see wildlife. We had the casita with plunge pool and AC. Staff is fantastic.
