Occupying a serene spot on America's only tropical fiord along the Golfo Dulce, the boutique hotel of Playa Cativo is enveloped in the snug embrace of the Piedras Blancas National Park and set on 1000 acres of lush private rainforest. A tranquil beach overlooks the crystalline waters off the Southern Costa Rican coast and guests set up lounge chairs on the meticulously groomed lawn to gaze across the expanse. All quarters, designed in contemporary eco-luxe style, are kitted out with polished reclaimed hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings, and large picture windows for stellar ocean views. Accommodations are within steps of the sand and offer all modern comforts such as wireless Internet access, ceiling fans, in-room safes and coffee makers. Bathrooms provide soothing rainfall showers, biodegradable toiletries and plush cotton robes.

Mike and Laura are the absolute best. They really made our trip special. We will miss them so badly. Mike is so personable. And Laura is so good at doing her job. I truly, recommend you to look for them upon arriving.

We spent 2 days here and the family loved it. We would recommend 3 days at minimum to truly enjoy the property & tours. The resort is a very special place: The staff is 6+ star! The food & drinks are is great. We brought in fresh tuna & snapper we caught prior to our visit that was prepared to perfection. Highly recommend visiting Playa Cativo Lodge.

5 stars are not enough for this slice of paradise far away from the madding crowds. From the moment we arrived at the marina to catch the boat, we were treated like treasured guests. The service was excellent, the room, beautiful and I cannot praise the food highly enough. We did a few nature trips - night walk, dolphin spotting (they were leaping out of the water) and birdwatching. All the guides were top notch with comprehensive knowledge. The bioluminescence trip on a boat at night was magical - to see the milky way above and sparkling sea below. Three nights were not enough as there is so much to experience given the time, in between relaxing on an almost deserted beach or in the plunge pool or swinging on the hammock…. And I mustn’t forget the spa which was wonderful and I would have spent more time there if the hotel and grounds weren’t so fabulous! It was definitely the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica and in hindsight, we would have booked a longer stay. It is one of those special places you never want to leave.

Truly wonderful place!!! Exceptional team (particular thanks to Mike!!) showed their expertise/care throughout - including very high quality food; an excellent wine list; first class guides (we really enjoyed all the opportunities to see Costa Rica’s amazing wildlife!!) and good quality accommodation (we thought opting for the air conditioning was worth the additional cost). Huge thanks to all concerned!!!
