This Hotel was an absolute joy to stay in. The staff was friendly, helpful & went above & beyond to make sure our stay was everything we dreamed of. There were many times that they went out of their way to make sure something was exactly what we wanted or needed, & that truly stands out to me. The staff was personable & treated us like more than "just another guest". All the staff seemed like they WANTED to be there, not just that they had to be there because it is their job. We even got fun towel animals each day & a special towel surprise on Valentine's Day! Not to mention the resort is breathtaking & the views are the most incredible views I've ever seen! Eating breakfast, overlooking the mountains & the ocean is something I'll never forget! I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Costa Rica!

We started with a simple cocktail and to watch the sunset in the amphitheatre. A couple was there having wedding photos taken which was pretty cool. After the sun set we settled in for an awesome dinner. Freshly churned butter... Need I say more? The sunset experience was one of the most memorable and beautiful I have ever witnessed... Actually the most. If in the area definitely don't miss this.

I had the chance to stay at this beautiful hotel for two nights. The views of the Pacific Ocean are just breathtaking. The gardens and pools are beautiful as well. The service and attention from the staff was also amazing. I will never forget the sunset from this place. A must if you are around! ++ Gay Friendly

I confess to considerable misgiving as my husband and I drove up the mile-long access road to Hotel Villa Caletas. Banners for spa services and luxury wines were placed along the drive. As we approached the security gate, a mix of buildings, statues, columns and hundreds of plant-filled urns hinted at a designer who was intent on re-creating ancient Greece or Italy in the Costa Rican jungle. We learned that Villa Caletas was the inspiration of Denis Roy, who, employing 400 workers, built his dream hotel despite incredible obstacles. The hotel brochure best describes the result: a hotel that in other places would be seen as an illogical mix of disparate architectural elements is blended into a refuge of beauty and peace. We felt as if we were private guests at a palace - there were stunning antiques and works of art accessible everywhere around us, and the landscaping was gorgeous. Toucans sat in the trees over our heads, and, as birders, we appreciated the many wonderful birds that lived within or traveled through the grounds. The pool was spectacularly beautiful, the gym was the most gorgeous open-air gym one could imagine, and the crazy amphitheater was, as envisioned by Mr. Roy, the perfect place to watch the sunset. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Villa Caletas. Our travel agent had not appropriately finalized our reservation, so we were told when we arrived that there was no reservation. Victor at the front desk efficiently solved our reservation problem, and in addition, gave us a spectacular suite, Room #10. He could not have been nicer or more helpful. Henry, the bellman, was exceptionally delightful and seemed to be everywhere at once, whenever we needed him; he would pop up. The housekeeper for our room delighted in creating beautiful towel sculptures. When I over-tipped by a huge amount because I became confused about the currency, the dining manager refused to accept the tip and sweetly explained that above all, he and the hotel prize honesty and decency in dealings with guests. The laundry service was quick, excellent and very reasonably priced. The restaurant was absolutely top-notch in all respects. And best of all, this is a place frequented by Costa Ricans for vacations and special occasions, and everyday the hotel allows locals to come watch the sunset from the amphitheater. We enjoyed very much meeting Costa Ricans, and other guests from all over the world.

We absolutely loved Villa Caletas. It truly is a haven. Peaceful and relaxing. We got home 2 weeks ago and we are still talking about it. Our room was clean and well maintained. The sunset is not to be missed. We received excellent service from everyone we encountered from reception where we were given warm towels and welcome drinks to the bell boys and housekeeping, the maintenance worker who came because I messed up our safe, and all restaurant staff at The Ampitheater. We will definitely return.
