This could be a 4 or 5 star depending on what you want from your holiday. If you are after a relaxing weekend...week.. without any connections, interruptions etc this is the perfect place . The views are amazing and so the infinity pools and you have all the privacy needed. If you want to visit or go to the beach..this is the downside as you need to either hire a cab or rent a car. So..for a romantic holiday..a 5 star as it is a perfect location. For a beach and visiting..4 star. Enjoy :)

I surprised my family with a long weekend birthday getaway at Villa Caletas and we could not have been happier with our stay. We stayed in a junior suite (superior) which was huge, accommodating easily our family of four. Our children adored having their own private jacuzzi and the semi-private pool a quick hop away. The views are gorgeous and we were so thrilled to be visited by monkeys, toucans and macaws. We ate often at the Amphitheater restaurant and enjoyed every meal, but especially breakfast with delicious fresh fruit and spectacular views. We also took advantage of the concierge who arranged a last minute zip line tour after our waterfall hike was rained out. All in all we were delighted with our stay and are looking forward to returning soon.

Villa Caletas was recommended as a top property in the area by a friend and local business owner. The property can be seen from the road below, and following a slow steep drive we arrived at our destination. The view from the lobby was spectacular! We were escorted to our junior suite by a bellcap that hand carried our luggage into a lovely accommodation . The room was spacious, well decorated in an Asian theme though due to the fog and rain we did not see the ocean view below until dawn. Dawn brought many wonderful surprises including a treeful of Toucan , Pacific Ocean down below, and an infinite view across the canopy of the jungle. The hotel is secluded though offered great dining on premise.

Amazing views. The property is very well kept. We took the shuttle to the private beach. What a great beach. We were surrounded by monkeys, turtles, saw crabs and hermit crabs. Great lunch and drinks on the beach. We will be back again.

We made reservations for dinner in the hopes of seeing the sunset but since it is the rainy season in Costa Rica at the time, we did not get a good sunset. However, this did not take away from the amazing experience. Instead of the sunset,we were able to basically have the rain forest come to us. It was misty, foggy, and beautiful. The drive up to Villa Caletas is amazing. It is about a mile up and you are driving on a paved road with a beautiful view on both sides. Don't look down in some spots because the cliffs are straight down. But I did not feel unsafe at all. We stopped at multiple places to take pictures and it was breathtaking. One of the best views I have ever seen. When you get to the lobby/check in area of the hotel/restaurant, there is ample free parking and then you walk up either a ramp or stairway through a jungle like walk way until you reach the top, where the restaurant/bar opens up to an amazing view of the mountains and ocean. We had a balcony table and the service was superb. Jocksan was our waiter and he was very friendly and helpful. The other wait staff were also very helpful and backed up Jocksan perfectly. We started with a few appetizers....a lobster appetizer (can't recall what it was called now) and the butternut squash soup, both were amazing. The bread was great as well. We ordered the lobster/shrimp risotto and lobster tail and both were amazing. They were tasty and the presentation was great....excellent culinary skills. We also shared the sorbet for dessert and ordered a bottle of wine, which was not outrageously priced. In fact, the prices were not bad at all, considering the amazing service and the fact that it was very upscale in a touristy area (just outside of Jaco-20 min drive). We paid about $140 plus tip for 2 appetizers, lobster/shrimp risotto, lobster tail (2 came with the entree), a bottle of wine, 2 drinks prior to that, and dessert. We were amazed that it only cost that much. There is an amphitheater where you can sit and watch the sunset while you enjoy a drink or you can see it from your table if the weather permits. This would be an excellent place for a wedding or special event. It was absolutely amazing. We didn't stay here but next time we definitely will.....some research showed that prices are very reasonable.
