Wonderful Stay at Le Chateau Frontenac

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Staying at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac was a dream come true. Our trip to Old Quebec was made special every day knowing that after an evening stroll along Dufferin Terrace, we could return to the comfort of our room at Chateau Frontenac. Our quiet room had a partial open sky view overlooking the front inner courtyard and the patinated gabled rooftops. We appreciated the modern elegance of our room and the luxurious marble tiled bathroom complete with a rain shower, luxury toiletries, plush robes and slippers. With two queen beds, the room was more spacious than expected and included a large desk with a leather chair, a very comfortable upholstered wing chair with ottoman and a large bureau. There was a large closet and a large safe discreetly hidden inside the bedside drawers. A/C was strong and quiet. Complimentary boxed water was left in the room daily. Housekeeping was prompt and the staff left our room immaculate each day. Our only issue with the room was the wet bar and the wine set up on the bureau - all items are on motion sensitive sensors so moving the items may trigger a charge to your account (like over $10 for a small tube of Pringles) - so check your account daily to avoid a surprise at checkout. As every tourist who visits Old Quebec will probably also visit Chateau Frontenac, the lobby, the gift shops and especially the restaurants can get very busy and crowded. Restaurants like Bistro Le Sam and Bar 1608 at Chateau Frontenac are very popular with locals as well as visitors especially during high season. Avoid disappointment and make on-line reservations for restaurants before arriving in Quebec City. Chateau Frontenac offers so much to enhance the stay of its guests. Your hotel package may include some wonderful activities including a free tour of the hotel and Old Quebec. As fans of author Louise Penny, we enjoyed seeing Bar 1608 where we could imagine Chief Inspector Gamache gazing at the mighty St. Lawrence River. We visited the Rose Room where the Normandy invasion was planned. We also enjoyed the museum quality exhibit of the history of Chateau Frontenac and its display of interesting artifacts on the lower level (near Starbucks). Finally, a special thanks to the Concierge Team. As we planned our trip, members of the Concierge Team gave us invaluable advice and helped us plan an unforgettable vacation. Merci beaucoup!

Disappointed in so much here

Worst high tea I have ever experienced at any luxury property. The Peninsula in Beverly Hills , Ca is one of my favorites and a standard I use when traveling. At the Fairmont the hostess would not honor our request for a patio table saying it was full. We could see from our ugly booth in the breakfast buffet table it was not and there absolutely was room. She managed to seat numerous guests there after we were seated but further there were still some tables empty. Need I mention this is not a white tablecloth tea. Ugly butcher block booth table. The service here was awful a long as a wait to be acknowledged, tea grew cold with no refill of hot water until an hour into service when we were tired of sitting and waiting, served together instead of separate trays as any luxury tea usually is individualized. Cutting corners seemed to be the game. Several items were absolutely inedible and bread was stale. Disappointing. On a side note the ladies room was a mess and unusable so no attention to basics by staff here. I would not recommend. Sit at a cute stress free cafe as this is not worth it. **yesterday we tried a little cafe in the old city and it was wonderful tea, coffee and pastries…lovely patio and inside tables. Great staff. Just a suggestion. Cafe La Maison Smith We had dinner scheduled at the Fairmont tonight at “SAM” their restaurant and have since cancelled. Our business was obviously unimportant. We had wanted to stay at this hotel but at the time we tried to book only low level small rooms ?172 sf) were available so we booked The Hilton property which has an incredible view of the entire city, large modern suites (575 sf) with great amenities and the staff that is very focused on service. There is an Executive Lounge for Diamond members with an upgraded continental hot breakfast and all day snacks free coffee and tea and sodas plus evening appetizers and a wonderful view. Very large. It may not have the charm of the castle but it outshines every aspect we experienced as their guests on property but there is not a high tea and I would not recommend the Hilton restaurant. 😆 Good luck on your journey.

We stayed at the Chateau Frontenac for four nights celebrating my husband’s 65th birthday. We had a Gold level room 1210. We enjoyed having breakfast and nightcaps on the 14th floor. The hotel Concierges were wonderful with restaurant recommendations and reservations.

Best choice for stay in Quebec City!

You know when you’re sitting at home and you see the room rates for this hotel, you think - is it really worth it? I wanted to write this review to say “yes it’s really worth it.” The hotel is historic, beautiful, clean, and very well kept up. The views are magnificent. I’m sure there’s a room with a bad view, but you’re inside the city walls and everything is so convenient and walkable. I feel like staying there was like staying in the middle of history. From a value standpoint, I would do it again because I think we saved money, not having to Uber all over the city. The location is buzzing with activity , surrounded by wonderful restaurants, and lots of opportunity to explore nature. Last but not least, the staff is excellent, helpful, and accommodating. Well done Fairmont Chateau du Frontenac!

Grand Hotel, Grand Views

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We visited Chateau Frontenac to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and found our stay very romantic. We were upgraded to a spacious suite with gorgeous views of the river, we had a lovely brunch in the Champlain restaurant, also with a gorgeous view, and we luxuriated in the Moment spa. Most of all we marveled at the majestic chateau itself, which is a stunning building with a lovely sort of approachable luxury, much like Quebec itself. It's relaxed but grand, an enchanting combination. It is an old well-loved building, which is a large part of its appeal. But that comes with a few problems. Our room had a squeaky vent or fan of some sort in the wall, that made it a bit hard to sleep when the A/C wasn't running. More problematic, it sat directly above a ballroom that hosted a very loud, raucous wedding until 1:00 AM on the Saturday of our stay that made it impossible to sleep before it ended. We alerted the hotel staff to both matters and, though they apologized, they were unable to resolve either matter and did not offer us any sort of compensation, which I found disappointing given the price we paid for our room and given the quality of the hotel. They easily could have comped any number of the many services and meals that we paid for during our stay, and that gesture would have been appreciated. As I said, such inconveniences go with the nature of such a bustling historic property, but a high standard of customer service helps balance things out. Beyond those matters, we loved our stay here and would gladly return.
