So incredibly overrated. Rooms are small, bathrooms even smaller. And we had an upgraded room. Spa is very undersized. Reservation to get a drink in the bar? Ridiculous. Walk-ins not allowed. Literally. The bar holds about 40 people - for a hotel that size it’s insane. And after you put your name on the list, you have to wait in an area with no drink to hear your name called. No telephone call back. Like Cracker Barrel. It’s so bad I can’t even explain it properly. What a disappointment. Great location - it’s got that going for it. But wow, never again.

The tour at $20 is worth the experience ( without the grand+ ) a night for a room. A historic figure guide( with plenty of info and humor) gave a very interesting one hour tour. Was totally worth it. Explained the evolution of the hotel through the various editions, along with the practical reasons why. The significance of the hotel as a site for the planning of D-Day was especially interesting.

This review is 4 stars based on the relation to the price and value. This is a 3 star hotel relative to service, value and amenities admittedly with a 5 star ambiance and location. Poor experience at check in, tiny bathrooms, dark and dated rooms, (even with paying for the junior suite—there was plenty of space), middle range experience in restaurants (we visited 2) and bar relative to service, quality and value. Don’t get me wrong the place is beautiful and I’m a sucker for history, but that’s what you’re paying for as the overall experience itself is very midrange. When you come to Quebec City you very well may end up wanting to stay here for the ambiance as we did—just writing this so you know the score

How best to describe our experience at this hotel.Well first things first I must compliment the staff for their instant response to a few minor issues with our room on arrival and also the willingness to find a loan solution to a technical issue. Unfortunately we had a further issue ( not reported) when the handle controlling water flow fell off the shower the following morning! As regards dining facilities the breakfast room is extremely tired and in urgent need of refurbishment but the waiter in attendance was extremely helpful and attentive to our needs. We were staying here as part of a pre cruise package so, not knowing the room rate paid, it is a little difficult to gauge if it represents good value for money. One final piece of advice try and avoid being allocated any rooms on the third floor inward looking towards the roof space. There is an extremely loud air conditioning unit outside which constantly interrupts sleep. Surprisingly however I have given the hotel four stars as it is an experience not to be missed despite having had our own issues.
