Azur in Queenstown, New Zealand

Nestled between The Remarkables, the cerulean stillness of Lake Wakatipu, and a wild expanse of New Zealand bush, Azur is a remote hillside retreat that's only a five-minute drive from town. The stone and silver beech villas prove there is nothing more beautiful than nature itself: Glass walls and wraparound decks beckon panoramic views, while thoughtful touches like in-room aromatherapy burners stocked with essential oils invite a deeper sense of grounding. Before you decide to make that plush bathrobe permanent, remember this: Queenstown is a gateway to the kind of skiing, rafting, hiking and adrenaline activities that tops bucket lists.

Take a moment to do something reflective as you watch the morning sky open over Cecil and Walter peaks: jot in your journal, inhale the aroma of a steaming Zealong tea, or simply breathe and appreciate the surroundings. Request the breakfast you desire at the lodge to fuel up for a trek across scrubby subalpine woodland through a forest of red beech and tawhero trees. Walk back through Queenstown, keeping an eye out for Maori crafts before enjoying a dinner of freshly shucked oysters lakefront.

Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Upscale, luxurious but without pretense. The staff is extraordinary! Every single staff member was helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. The views from the villa are breathtaking. The bed is extremely comfortable. The food was delicious. The setting is peaceful, serene and stunning. This is a very special property. I look forward to returning.

I do not even know where to begin. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and everything was perfect. From the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. Everything was perfect. Danielle, our main point of contact, was helpful in every way. Actually, every single staff member was helpful and polite. Champagne on arrival; simply was perfect. The views were simply stunning. The lodge was immaculate; everything was complimentary; which was amazing. The breakfast was delicious. It is absolutely deadset, the best place to unwind.

We spent four days at the Azur Lodge - it wasn't long enough. Every suite faces the lake and the mountains beyond - one of the best views in New Zealand. This view is accentuated by one wall of the suite being glass. The suites are the largest we've experience and the amenities countless. Fire place, whirl pool tub, umbrellas by the door - the list goes on. However it is the staff that truly makes the Azur a five star resort. They are always pleasant, always helpful and always ready wit a glass of wine (or what ever might be your favourite). Don't miss canopies served from 5 to 6. The most delicious way t start the evening. Over the four nights we stayed we had dinner served in our room four times. The staff sweeps in, sets up dinner on your dining table, pours the wine, light the candles and then vanishes leaving the perfect meal over looking the perfect view. They are so experience, they can do it in minutes. When our trip to the Milford sound was imperilled by weather the concierge spent 20 minutes on the phone until he got us on an earlier flight. He would not take no for an answer. Again the outstanding service of a five star resort.

I had gotten severely ill at a prior resort and I called Azur to tell them that our party of 6 needed our rooms ready so we could get to the resort and get into bed immediately. I spent three days in bed in this resort and the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating.. never have I been more sick on vacation and I was treated like I was family including multiple room and bedding changes and special food accommodations.. they were so warm and so friendly and so accomodating that I want to go back there now that im healthy and thank them personally.. I was so grateful for the hospitality and empathy towards my illness.oh and the view from my bed was amazing (I never actually saw anything else or even ate much at all)

My wife and I travel to many nice locations and stay at very nice hotels when we do. They are all supposedly "5 Star" but there is little consistency in their quality and service. The Azur gets it right. First, the quality fo the villas is outstanding. Each has a privacy that makes you feel you are the only ones staying at the villas. Of course the views of lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable mountains is exceptional. Everything in the room is top notch, with the exception of the tv. It isn't a smart tv so it views appears "old". However, we didn't ever use it and I doubt anyone would given the beautiful views. Even the whirlpool tub has outstanding views of the lake and mountain. So a high quality room with a sense of privacy and beautiful views - 5 star. The service isn't just good, it's unique. The young people who comprise the multinational staff have been well selected and trained (congratulations Gavin!). They deliver breakfast to your room in the morning and the toast is hot because it's toasted in your room. It's details like that. Or when you return after a day "out" you are offered both sweet and savory canapés to go with your tea, coffee or wine. All while you sit on the deck just enjoying the sunset. We ordered supper from restaurants in town and the meal was delivered hot and served on fine china in our villa. This beat almost all room service operations we have experienced in other hotels. Yes, you do pay 5 star hotel prices. However, they really deliver on the quality and service.
