Reviews for Eichardt's Private Hotel
Have always wanted to stay in this iconic Queenstown hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We stayed in apartment 7 next to the Botswana Butchery which was very comfortable. Large bathroom with Molton Brown amenities and a very comfortable king size bed. The fire in the living area added a cosy atmosphere. Self-catering is available and the cookie jar is always a nice touch. We had a small balcony outside the apartment but with all the foot traffic outside our gate we felt a bit on show and didn’t use it. We really liked the phone call each day to match up times when we would be out so the room could be serviced. This also worked well for evening turn down. We didn’t realise until the second morning breakfast in the bar was included and on the first day enjoyed brunch at Ivy and Lola’s. Similar to several other reviewers’ feedback, the cooked breakfast menu only had a few choices which appealed. As a suggestion to management, perhaps the menu could state orders can be tailored, or add a popular dish such as eggs benedict with an Eichardt’s twist. We thoroughly enjoyed the night we joined Lauren in the parlour for drinks and canapes and chatted to a lovely couple from NY. Another evening drinks were transferred to the bar and was very impressed when asking for a glass of bubbles, to be served Bollinger! Special call out to Courtney for her persistence in showing us how the TV remote worked! Great stay and hope to repeat the experience one day.

It would be impossible to have a better or more central location in Queenstown than Eichardt's. It is right in the center of town with beautiful views of the lake. Our suite was in the "Apartments" rater than the main building. Our suite was both elegantly and efficiently decorated. This makes for a great experience since the décor doesn't work against you. The fireplace was great as well as the balcony overlooking the lake. In general service was excellent. The reception staff worked very intensely to make us feel welcome. Breakfast was quite good and hearty. The wait staff was a little overworked. But tried hard to make it all work out. We had a table at the front window and enjoyed watching the world of Queenstown walk by.

One of the reasons that I selected Eichardts was a combination of location and a quiet place to relax. The decor can't be faulted and I was very pleased with my suite which had a superb view of the lake. The reception staff were very helpful and the valet parking was an excellent service. However, on the Tuesday night I was horrified to find that a rather noisy wedding party next door had turned into a live band for the reception at the restaurant whuch was directly below me. The noise was appalling. On inquiring at reception I was told that this would continue until midnight and offered ear plugs. The next morning there were apologies and I made the point that I could have been informed in advance of the event. This was acknowedged. No offer of reparation of any sort was made. That day I akso returned from an outing at 3.00pm and had to ask for my room to be made up. Again, many apologies but in a hotel such as this you should not have to ask. Also disappointed at the breakfasts. Small menu, leathery bacon, poor coffee and a space which isn't really appropriate in size or set up for breakfast. Especially as I believe they are still open to casual diners meaning you can struggle to get a table.

We had a lovely stay in the upstairs apartment which is right next door to Botswana Butchery We liked the rooms in the main hotel better and will revert back next time but that’s to take nothing away from a wonderful weekend Very friendly team and service excellent and the breakfasts were delicious!!

We stayed in a lake view suite, amazing views out to the lake, a view that constantly changes and you can never tire of. This is the most outstanding feature of the hotel along with the fireplaces that make for a cosy experience. Good sized rooms, appeal to an older style. The bathroom is great, just need better lighting for the mirrors. Good focus on detail with cleaning, and mini-bar is complimentary daily other than for alcoholic beverages. The cookies are a nice treat. Furniture is a bit dated and could be more comfortable but is keeping in the style of the historic hotel. The staff at the front desk are efficient and friendly. Tours and transfers are very expensive however go direct for better value options. It's a nice hotel, and we have stayed at many luxury and SLH hotels however this one just did not feel quite up there. Breakfasts could be improved. The menu could do with some more interesting options and was a bit basic. One morning the bar was full and we were left to come up with our own solution to go back to our room and order breakfast. The bar caters for walk-ins too so it can run out of tables in busy times. On another morning the only staff member was in a flap and off her feet trying to serve 3 tables that came in at once. We waited 35 minutes for breakfast and coffees came as we were finishing. The staff member was clearly under pressure and apologetic - management should look after their staffing levels better and not allow this situation for their staff or their paying guests. Overall a good hotel, and a great location, however breakfast service and menu needs to be in line with the rest of the offer to ensure the overall experience is more consistent.
