I love Terranea. The resort is magnificent, the rooms are incredibly comfortable and i love that each one has a beautiful view of the ocean. The pools are wonderfully heated and clean, the entire facility is well managed, comfortable and clean. The only downside is that the quality of the food is mediocre and it's incredibly expensive for what it is.

Beautiful serene view! Staff very hospitable and attentive! Catalina Restaurant brunch was excellent!! Of all the resorts I have been to the Terranea was a bit pricey for what they offer. If u want to simply relax it’s nice and tranquil. However if your looking for a bit more activity around you I find it a bit boring. The pool was basic, something you would see at a nice apartment wow factor for what you pay. 2 days max...then head to Santa Monica.

Great for adults and good for kids. Terrific spa and food options with many relaxing area's to go to. Great view on water and places to walk/hike. Bashi was terrific to eat a nice date night meal. Nelson's great for a family dinner/pics of sunset.

We came here with hopes of having a relaxing Valentine's getaway, while our kid spent some time with grandma and grandpa. I wish we had chosen another destination. Terranea is a very busy resort, with far more young children than we had expected. The result was kids running and playing all over the grounds at all hours of the day, and yelling in the pool area into the night. I'm all for that at a family-oriented resort (Disney is 40 miles away!) but it wasn't the atmosphere that we were hoping for at a luxury hotel. Terranea was also simply too crowded. Despite the guaranteed check-in of 4:00, our room was not ready until almost 5:00. We were left standing around the lobby area waiting for another group to get up so we would have somewhere to sit. The front desk unhelpfully informed us that if we'd like a quiet place to wait while they prepared our room, we could buy passes to the spa for $40 per person. We fortunately made dinner reservations in advance, because the restaurants were turning away people without them. Other frustrations were typical for a big resort but annoying given the other negative experiences here. For example, valet parking is posted at the front entrance as $10, but is actually *$38* a day. We saw the sign advertising the $38 rate folded up and tucked behind the valet stand as we were leaving. Expect a hefty resort fee, as well. Our room was fairly nice but not amazing. Staff was friendly, and we had particularly great service at Bashi for dinner. But all in, we're going somewhere else in the future.

My husband and I were fortunate to have the opportunity to take one evening away from our wonderful 3-year-old, and chose Terranea as our couples' retreat. It underwhelmed us in nearly every regard. To begin with, I called ahead to ask about early check-in. I was told there was a "guarantee of a 4 P.M. check in, and they would try their best, but couldn't promise anything." When we arrived we checked our bag and sat on the porch reading to wait for our room. 4 o'clock came around, and no notification that our room was ready. 4:30 came around, and no notification that our room was ready. Meanwhile, we were seated on the patio, with a smoker upwind from us. I am pregnant, and was quite frustrated that my room was not ready, which resulted in me inhaling second-hand smoke while I waited. We finally got our room at 4:45, and it was fine. Very minimal, but fine. When I complained about the wait for the "guaranteed" check in time they said it was a busy holiday weekend and there was nothing to be done. They offered me a room that was below what I'd paid for, and I declined, citing I'd like the king bed I had been promise. Finally a small "resort credit" was issued to us, for the trouble, although after the "Resort fee" of $35 and $38 to park overnight, that nominal credit disappeared quickly. The resort was overrun with families with young children and dogs. We get it-we have a young child and two pets, but felt leaving them at home was merited for a resort of this caliber. Had we *any* idea this was such a family-centric resort, we would have chosen another location. Warning to couples wanting a quiet getaway: THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. When we inquired where we could go for quiet, we were told we could pay $40 per person to go to the spa for the day, which was for people 18 and over. $80 for the two of us to sit near the spa to read (not even get a treatment) is way too much. Dinner at Bashi was a highlight of the evening, however we had to move tables because a raucous family came in, and we did not want to spend our one kid-free evening alongside a family of 6 banging the table with chopsticks. Joyce (I believe her name was) was an incredible server-we highly recommend her. In the morning, we noticed that a maid was coming around knocking on doors at 8:45 A.M. to clean/encourage people to check out. They cited lack of cleaning staff the day before as to why our room wasn't ready, yet were pressuring guests to have their room cleaned before 9 A.M.?! Unbelievable. The property is beautiful, but for the exorbitant amount you pay, your money would absolutely be better spent elsewhere. We're disappointed that this was our experience, and want to caution others looking for a quiet getaway that they would likely be better served elsewhere.
