Event Planning Buyer Beware

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I recently booked a private room for 22 family and friends for 4-hour event. Wasn't given copy of contract until I traveled in and arrived day of event. Had no idea about this until just before guests arrived. It was not only very long but many pages. Since I had no time, I asked if there was anything out of the ordinary, I should pay attention to? They said no, just standard rules and details regarding food, beverages etc. My fault for not reading thoroughly. When the final charge showed up on my cc. It was a little higher than I calculated. Not a huge amount but the gratuity was about $165 over the percent. I called several times asking them to go over this calculation. They left me a vm explaining the gratuity was calculated on total including $500 room charge and service fee for using cc. They also said it was in the contract I sighed. I called again saying in all the years I've had events, I never heard of such a practice. Why am I paying tip on room charge and cc service fee. Asked if this could be credited back to my card. They never responded after leaving 2 messages. For an establishment that reflects such quality and class, they certainly don't show it using this unfair practice. Are they that desperate to take every dollar they can from customers any way they can? It's not about money but more about business integrity.

Exceptional stay at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I haven't written a review on this site for a long time, but I felt compelled to make an exception to bring the wonderful Inn at Rancho Santa Fe to the attention of the members of this site. The manager Vikram and his assistant Raj have done an incredible job taking this hotel to an international standard. The staff are incredibly well trained, friendly, professional, and attentive. All obviously hand picked. The food is excellent, and the rooms have been renovated to perfection. I also like the way that the recent renovation has referenced the history of the Inn and brought this out as a feature. This hotel is now a hidden gem in the Rancho Santa Fe area, and as the Michelin guide would say, worthy of a detour. I can't think of a better place to stay in the area, and I for one am personally delighted to have such a great place to visit on my business trips to Rancho Santa Fe. I will plan to hold my company autumn retreat here also, as the tropical gardens are lavish and beautiful, and the setting reminiscent of the desert vistas of Santa Fe in New Mexico. A tranquil and pleasant place that is somewhere that you must definitely consider staying at if you are visiting the San Diego area. Also the perfect setting for a romantic break or a family holiday. And I haven't even mentioned the wonderful pool area. I can't recommend this place enough! Thank you for a memorable stay.

Overrated and Overstated

This resort has all the makings of a great place…except that many of the staff members are apathetic to good service. There’s really not much thought about responsiveness or even addressing a gues that didn’t receive a meal until 10 minutes after the other guests at the table. AND didn’t even think about checking until the 3rd request. There’s so much more. It’s just very overpriced given what you receive.

Poor Management

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My fiance and I had a terrible experience with The Inn. We tried to book a block of rooms and a honeymoon suite for our wedding at the hotel and after multiple attempts with calls and emails, they failed to get back to us. Finally, we got in touch with their event management lead and planned to meet onsite to book the rooms. Twenty minutes into the meeting, we were told that another couple may book the entire property that same weekend, therefore, we should just “hang tight.” After over a week with no correspondence, we reached back out and were told that the couple was following through on the buy-out. The management at The Inn is very arrogant. Nearly a dozen times, they told us about their “$40 million dollar renovation” as a way of boasting about how they can afford to charge top-tier prices without considering discounts for booking a large volume of rooms. Their staff is nice and helpful for the most part, but hotel management created a very poor customer experience for us.

Nice but inconvenient

Beautful grounds. The room is sparsely furnished, but what is here is good. Staff is nice. We stayed in a garden room with a fireplace... not actually a great choice because the room smelled smoky the whole stay even though we did not use it. Hit or miss on the room appliances.. for example they put in a fancy Toto toilet but it starts beeping and spraying even if you are just trying to use the sink...meanwhile the HVAC unit seemed broken and was not able to keep temp constant, only one mode at a time, so we were usually too hot or too cold. The pastry shop is nice but closed on Monday and Tuesday. The breakfast restaurant was extremely slow. The final negative here is that while it is a central location on map, it is on a hill, so it is a slow and windy 10 minute drive every time you leave or enter. We would have done better to stay on a coastal town like Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Jolla.
