Beautiful, well maintained, hotel with breathtaking views. Prime location at a top of a hill on the bay of Rapallo. The hotel's beach is on a rocky platform. An easy walk to both bus and ferry and within a convenient 15 minutes’ walk to city center, restaurants and shopping areas. You can easily utilize the efficient rail system to visit Lucca, Cinque Terre, and Portofino. A ferry trip to nearby Santa Margherita and Portofino is spectacular. Staff were friendly and professional. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Very good breakfast served on the terrace. The food in the hotel was overpriced so we didn't patronize it. The Wi – Fi was okay but not reliable. Fall prices were very reasonable for this perfect hotel. Very good value for money. Rapallo is a great base to visit Portofino and Santa margarita.

This was our first foray into Rapallo and while I had some of the normal anticipation that the hotel would not be as advertised. I was wrong on all counts. It is centrally located and just down the road (literally) from Portofino. The staff is courteous and helpful from arrival to departure. The rooms are elegantly appointed. Our room needed a bit of paint and the entry (carpet) needed a serious cleaning. Otherwise, the accomodations were comfortable and quiet. The location is on a hill and you have a beautiful view of the Mediterranean and the town of Rapallo. The morning buffet breakfast is hearty and healthy. They have bicycles and scooters available but you best be fit to walk or peddle the winding road up to the hotel. A great way to walk off lunch and/or dinner. I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

We arrived on winter, when the place is not that crowded and we were upgraded to a superior room with a view to the sea. The hotel is very classy, clean with a classic decoration that travels you to another age. The room was very comfy and clean. The breakfast was very nice as well. I would have given it 5 stars should a minor event had not occur. We had placed 2 towels on the bath's floor for the maid to replace and we found out that the very same towels were again placed back on the hanger of the bath. We had immediately requested fresh towels and same have been provided at once. I would definetely visit again.

We attended a business conference at this hotel and not only is it located in historic Rapallo with easy access to Genoa, Porto Fina and other resort/tourist areas, the service and staff is excellent. In addition, the views are incredible from all sides, but ask for a seaside view. If you are in this area of the world, stay here.

We stayed for 3 nights in October, in a corner suite with sea views and a terrace. Excelsior Palace is an old world luxury hotel with stunning views of Rapallo, the coastline and sea. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the town centre, where there is a good choice of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are regular local bus and ferry connections to Santa Margeurita and Portofino. The hotel is very well maintained and has quality fittings, comfortable beds, and reasonably good wifi. Like other Italian hotels, there was no iron or tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast is served in in the restaurant on the first floor, and seating is available on the terrace overlooking the sea. It was disappointing to find, like other reviewers, that the breakfast is not of the same 5 star standard as the hotel. As one reviewer says "it is OK", but certainly not to the standard of other leading 5 star properties. I don't eat red meat, and don't enjoy cheese at breakfast, so was left with very limited choices. Disappointing that receiving similar feedback fairly consistently, little change have been implemented. Overall our stay at ExP was delightful. The ambiance is one of charming, old world luxury, and the staff were consistently professional and welcoming. Currently the outdoor pools are closed for repair, however the indoor pool is open. Warning: the 52 steps from the street to the hotel foyer will be an issue for some guests. But the views are well worth the effort!
