Melenos Lindos in Rhodes, Greece

On his mythical voyage through the Aegean Sea, Ulysses could never have foreseen the magnificent possibilities of a luxury hotel resting gently below the acropolis of Lindos, overlooking the white sand beaches and deep blue waters of the island of Rhodes. This awe-inspiring creation, however, is precisely what has been accomplished with Melenos Lindos. With twelve rooms each offering traditional hand-carved wooden sleep platforms, beautiful hand-painted ceilings, and a fantastic blend of Mediterranean architecture, you are immediately immersed in the culture of classical Greece while still having access to all the modern and technological accommodations desired. Each room also features a private terrace overlooking the azure waters of Lindos, which beckon even the most active of vacationers to sit for a minute and admire the surrounding natural beauty.

To complete the tranquil atmosphere of Melenos Lindos make your way to the rejuvenation area for a massage with natural herbs and oils, or recline in the garden lounge where soft sofa beds - placed enticingly under the sun - are the perfect place to sip a cocktail while sampling gourmet hors d'oeuvres. For those who are excited by history, it is a brief hike up to the acropolis where remnants of the Temple of Athena, built in 300 BC, can be seen within the Fortress of the Knights of St. John. If complete relaxation is what you desire, the resplendent beaches are a quick walk east, and with three to choose from there are options for singles, couples, and families alike. At the end of the day be sure to experience the restaurant at Melenos Lindos, where fresh natural ingredients and the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean will truly delight your palate. If simply tasting this fine cuisine is not enough to satiate, you can participate in a cooking lesson from the head chef and then relax in the open air patio as you enjoy a dinner crafted by your own hand. Whichever path you choose, Melenos Lindos provides a perfect sanctuary for your own personal odyssey through the Greece.

Very nice location although not accessible by car. A lot of walking up and down the hills and stairs (Lindos is pedestrian and not accessible to cars). The free parking not near hotel. The Hotel itself is beautiful great views and service and amazing breakfast. The rooms very romantic. Special decoration. One problem is the Water Heater for shower - not big enough for one person to shower more than 4 min. Problem when washing long hair. Between 2 persons showering we had to wait for the water heater.

This review is very late, though I still feel compelled to echo what several travelers have already mentioned below--Melenos Lindos is special place that won't soon be forgotten. My husband and I honeymooned at Melenos in June of last year, and of the five or so stops we made along three different countries during our trip, this is the place we think and talk about most often. From the owner Mr. Michalis's curated collection of gorgeous antiquities that decorated each uniquely styled room to the impeccable service, his touch is in everything at Melenos. Besides breakfast, which was truly a special treat each morning, we enjoyed many meals at the restaurant which were elegantly plated and delicious. There were countless examples of their level service, which felt more like friendship and family than staff. There was an evening during our stay where I wasn't feeling well, and the staff prepared a special light dinner without us even asking. On another occasion, they prepared a special picnic basket filled with Greek delicacies for a boat trip and on just half an hour's notice. We really looked forward to our daily conversations with Mr. Michalis, Susie, Zoe, Maria, Vasyris, and the rest of the wonderful staff. There is so much more to say, but I wish for future travelers to go without expectation, as we did, and just make sure you plan enough days to experience this gem of a resort that so quickly feels like home.

We fell in love with Melenos the moment we set eyes on the beautiful venue and knew it would be the perfect place to get married. After speaking with Maria, we found her so friendly and professional that we instantly had complete confidence in her to help us plan our wedding, booking our date for twelve months ahead. The service we received from Maria from that point until the day of the wedding (and most impressively after the wedding too!) was second to none. All emails were responded to quickly, warmly and thoroughly, putting our mind at ease for organising such a big and important event from a distance. I would definitely recommend Maria over choosing a Lindos wedding planner, she was much more open, friendly and honest than we experienced with some of the other options available. We really trusted her and she made our day so perfect and so special it still has not really sunk in that it was real. I stayed at the suites the night before the wedding with my bridesmaids and infant son. They went to great lengths to ensure we were all comfortable and we were all impressed with the service recieve as eell as the and beauty of our room and the grounds. It was simply stunning. Our beds were comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic with lots of lovely toiletries to try and two sinks and mirrors (very useful for three women sharing!) We enjoyed the fruit bowl and wine left in our room, loved relaxing on our terrace which was full of beautiful potted plants and flowers, and slept soundly that evening. The following day we had an amazing breakfast on the terrace looking out at the most spectacularly beautiful view I have ever seen. I couldn't believe we were getting married in that spot in only a few hours! The staff at breakfast went to special lengths to cater for my son (bringing him some chopped banana!), and for us brought out a beautiful selection of fruit, pastries and Greek delicacies before taking our order for our choice of breakfast (we had Greek omelette which was delicious). Our wedding day was perfect from start to finish, nobody could do enough for us. I had left Maria in charge of all the decor and the cake and I was so pleased I had done it that way as it was brilliant to see all of these things for the first time throughout the day. There was so much to take in and a lot of the details I didn't properly notice until I saw the photographs afterwards. The venue was perfect for taking wedding pictures and Savvas, our photographer, managed to get the best wedding pictures I had ever seen. The wedding breakfast was served on the rooftop, the most beautiful spot for seeing the acropolis and bay. The six course meal was beautiful, with fresh and usual dishes that were all complimented highly by all guests, and the wine was free flowing all evening. We were almost sad to have to leave for the next part of our wedding at the Village Cafe. When we returned after the wedding party, our room had been turned down and we had flowers and chocolate on the bed, as well as a card from the staff. I honestly can't think of a more perfect place for a wedding and would not change a thing if I could start all over again. Melenos hotel, restaurant, and wedding venue all come with my highest recommendation in their own right. If you can visit during your stay in Lindos at any point, for lunch or dinner, to stay a night or for your whole holiday, or to be one of the lucky people that get married there, you will not forget it. I must also add that following the wedding we had a problem with our paperwork when we were registering the marriage at the town hall, this meant that we could not complete the process while we were in Rhodes. This should have been a very stressful situation, but Maria at Melenos immediately took over, arranging for us to see a solicitor and assign her to sign paperwork on our behalf once we returned home. This involved a lot of extra work and travel on her part, and she did not expect anything extra from us for it. We were really overwhelmed by her help and the difference it made to our holiday as we were able to relax and make the most of our holiday without it affecting our enjoyment of such a memorable and important time. We really love Rhodes and are so happy we got married here. Melenos really sums up Greek hospitality at its best. Thank you for everything you have done for us.

This hotel has an exceptionnel location, a very kind and efficient staff, a deep charm . One of the few spots in Lindos where you can truly escape the inconvenience of the daily invasion of the bus tour operators from Faliraki or Rhodes city all over this beautiful antique and medieval site. However to get the best of your stay, you have to pays for it. The regular suit we booked (the first prices at the booking agency) was a bit gloomy and even troglodytic : we pay for an upgrade. The beautiful superior suite we got was spacious, designed with a perfect taste and with a direct terrace. We do not share the enthusiasm of other customers for the rather expensive restaurant of the hotel : it aims a very sophisticated "haute cuisine" but if fails. You pay for the pleasure of the terrace. These criticism does not apply to the breakfast, excellent.

Wow what an experience. Beautifully appointed rooms, excellent surrounds, perfect hospitality. An absolute gem! The breakfast was personable and fresh, the room upgrade nothing short of amazing (and I am picky).
