Filmmaker Federico Fellini is considered a master of dreamscapes, and it is no wonder he drew much of his inspiration from Grand Hotel Rimini. This romantic national monument and new member of the Select Hotels collection basks in fresh sea air in the town of Rimini on Italy's eastern coast. You will have a difficult time deciding which is most impressive - the property's 4,000 square meters of parkland, its guest rooms showcasing 18th century Venetian and French antiques, or the private hotel beach on the Adriatic coast.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel for a 6 daay break in August, and couldnt fault the high standards of service, accommodation and very importantly, food! The beach was pristine and extremely well run the very helpful Christian and colleagues kept everything in tip top order. The buffet lunch in the beach restaurant was beyond compare- we were sending unbelievable photos of the amazing variety of delicious choices available every lunch time. Masses of vegatables and salads as well as meat fish and pasta- all freshly cooked and presented in a most appetising way. Jon Paulo in reservations was helpful in every way and looked after us making sure our room choice was exactly what we wanted. In the dining room the food was truly exceptional and not at all what you might expect in a hotel restaurant. Every night it was a fresh and innovative meal which would have a 10 out of 10 for taste, presentation and no extended wait times! Our lovely wine sommelier Elida was so knowledgeable and not just about Italian wines ! We learned a lot from her and her recommendations were always excellent. What more can I say - we had a lovely relaxing break at this lovely grand old hotel -which has been refurbished to the highest standards without losing the original beauty of its interiors- which sadly seems to happen at a lot of hotels, and they lose their charm. Our thanks to all the lovely staff! I

We had a pleasant 4 night stay. The hotel has a private beach and a small kids pool next to the beach which was fantastic. The main pool isn’t heated so very cold for kids even in August. I’d say it is very traditional in style which is not what we usually opt for in a hotel, however we were meeting friends there and it seems like the best hotel in Rimini. The main negative for us is that as with much of Italy, the restaurant was not prepared for those who have a nut allergy, I only found one helpful waiter who was able to speak good enough English to discuss what food definitely did not contain nuts

Bed's are amazing, incredibly comfortable, beach was lovely, beach sun bed towels were super soft, the beach staff were nice. And that's where the positives end. No tea or coffee facilities in the room, you have to call down for a "kettle kit", which turned out to be literally a kettle so again you have to call for tea bags and milk. There are two nightclubs that blast music until 4am so dependant on where your room is, it may mean you get no sleep. But ultimately its the staff that let this place down and downgrade it from a supposed "5 star" to a 3 star. The younger staff are good, attentive and friendly and should be kept and cherished. The older staff (restaurant manager, male and female), working at breakfast and dinner are just a let down. Rude, inattentive and slow. They avoid eye contact so you spend ages waiting to ask someone for something. When they finally decide to answer you, its then a long wait. We once received our drinks after the meal had ended despite asking a couple of times. This was on our first night of arrival. They seem to favour the older guests which is so ridiculous, the hotel is going to need to impress the younger guests to ensure the future of the hotel otherwise it will literally die out. Such a disappointment and I won't be recommending this hotel to anyone. Quite the opposite.

Beautiful hotel, but the hotel's focus lies mostly on external events hosted in the garden, beach or terrace. That leads to noise nuisance and staff being occupied by it. I don't mind the occasional wedding but every single night gets very annoying. A real 5-star hotel should always focus on the guest first in my opinion.
