Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

To preside lavishly over one of the world’s most well known beaches, book a penthouse suite at the five-star Belmond Copacabana Palace. Here you’ll have a bird's eye view over the coast, where two million people flock to watch the fireworks each New Year's Eve. Named a cultural patrimony of Rio, the 90-year-old landmark once hosted Marilyn Monroe, The Rolling Stones and Diana, Princess of Wales. It retains a French-inspired feel after a 2012 restoration, and the social scene at the expansive pool is as hot as the Rio sun.

See and be seen on Copacabana’s wide swatch of sand. Give up your white-umbrella-clad throne and return for lunch, a feijoada stew – Brazil's national dish – at the poolside bar. Indulge in a spa treatment that uses white clay from the Amazon. Snag a sake cocktail at celeb chef Ken Hom’s MEE restaurant. Sway to bossa nova with a hot local at the piano bar.

It is impossible to find fault with this hotel. Situated right on Copacabana beach, beautiful (and recently remodelled) pool. Excellent rooms (go for a suite in the main block with views of the beach). The service provided by all the staff is exceptional. Pergula restaurant provides an excellent breakfast (including alternative 'milks') as well as lunch and dinner options. The pool guys are constantly ensuring you have enough towels and provide drinks and food promptly. There is a piano bar and also cipriani restaurant. We felt very safe in this hotel, important given that people can be wary in the area.

Just had an idyllic 3 night stay at the Palace. I’ve stayed in some top hotels around the world (and paid much more),, but this was the best of them all. The attentive service, quality, the breakfast, the beach facility, the pool, the quality of bedding, everything absolutely top class.

Beautiful old world classical hotel. Visited hotel to help open their new dining venue on the beach. The rooms are still as amazing as they have always been...almost all are suites with small French balconies right on Copacabana . You can't go wrong with this hotel. A place to see and be seen in Rio. restaurants and bars are top of the line. I especially liked spending time by the pool....Most hotels in Rio have pools at the top of the hotels, but Belmond has a huge pool with bar service on the ground floor. If it weren't for the restaurant you could see the beach as well. Don't like the rooms in the tower as much as in the historic if you have to stay in the historic part. Less noise (there is a piano bar and restaurant in tower building that can be noisy at night) than the tower as well.

For the classic Rio experience there is nowhere better to stay. On the beach, this hotel provides the classic experience with dining by the pool and lounging there under lots of umbrellas. Rooms are fine and the restaurant and pool have been recently remodeled. It is safe with lots of security. I recommend the hotel.
