Beautiful, very clean, room was perfect, the pool is amazing. There's nothing to do other than the pool and the beach is not good. Restaurants outside the resort are 15 minutes away. The only bad thing was the 2 hours in line to check-in.

My spouse and I decided to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with an escapade to PR. We heard about Puerto Rico's east coast and decided on the Melia Coco Beach. From the moment we arrived we felt completely unwelcome. It took 1,1/2 hour to do check-in, a customer told us that it took her three hours the day before. When we finally made it to the check-in counter we asked why it took so long and were met with a condescending reply, " that is our process and what do you want us to do?" We felt completely poweless. Taking your luggage to your room was another hassle and we ended up carrying them to our room until we waved a passing golf cart that turn back to take our luggage to our room. The room I must say was fantastic, spacious and very modern. The pool seems to have a music competition (who could be the loudest) between the activities bungalow and the wet bar resulting in a cacophony of sounds. Their beach is really not meant for swimming as a result of rocks and marine algae all around, we ended up driving to Luquillo which is near and have breathtaking waters. Parking seems to be a survival of the fittest situation at Melia Coco Beach as they let none hotel guest park in guest spots resulting in a nice trek from wherever you are fortunate enough to find a spot, they always tell you that you could tell a golf cart to pick you up but that could take up to 1/2 hour. Minerva, at Tempo restaurant, made our evenings enjoyable, the only person that provided service with a smile. Most of the other hotel staff seemed annoyed to have to interact with guests, we ended up cutting our trip short and I personally had to apologize to my wonderful wife, which took the sour experience in stride.

Have stayed at this property several times but this time the experience was not so great. Check in process really slow for such a big hotel. We arrived at 4:30 pm and spent more that one hour in line. Once we finally reached the check in desk they wanted us to take a room with a king bed after we indicated we were 2 adults and 2 kids. After going back and forth they offer us a room with 2 double beds but the room was not ready. After that we had to do another line to wait for the golf cart to take us to our bungalow. At this time the kids were cranky and only wanted to go to the pool. Once we reached our room not only towels were missing but there were no pillowcases on the pillows and one of our sheets was stained. We requested a change of the stained sheets and the pillowcases and decided to take the kids to the pool but to our surprise there were no pool towels available (they close at 6pm) so back to our room we went and still no towels. After several requests thru housekeeping and the front desk we got three towels!! Breakfast buffet was good as always and staff really good. We had a good time at the pool but when we tried to rent a Bali bed they indicated there were no packages available even though there were beds available throughout the pool. I guess they have been working in controlling the iguanas at the pool because this time we only saw just a couple and thank God none inside the pool. Overall we had a good time but does not compare to previous stays which is disapointing because is a good property.

The Resort itself is well kept and beautiful, the first impression will tale your breath away but that feeling will quickly go away when you see the long check in line. Lost about 45mins- 1 hour doing the check in line. Then you have to do another line to activate the parking card and then another line so you are taken to your room. The room is big with lots of space and the bathroom was really confortable but the beds were not confortable at all. Not to mention that we got two double beds instead of a king sized bed when it was a couple getaway. Practically, you will lose your first day at the resort between the long lines and the late check in time (4pm) so at the time we were at our room the pool bar and grill was close plus you have to make reservations to most of the restaurants (I believe the only one that reservations are not required is the one with the buffet). The pool area is good but it was way too crowded with kids and the beach area isn't really a beach it's more of a swamp that was tried to be converted into a beach. Also, the line for breakfast buffet was long (About 30 minute wait time to be seated) and check out is early (at 11, not at 12 like most hotels) so if you want to catch breakfast on your last day be sure to arrive early at the restaurant. Another bad aspect of the hotel is that at night there aren't any things to do, no live music, no casino or shows, just the restaurants. Food was good at the restaurants and cheaper than expected, specially the teppanyaki. The breakfast is good and has a nice variety of things to eat, from sweets to scrambled eggs and even an omelette station. The employees are really nice and welcoming so the resort is not lacking from that side. The real downside here is the logistics and the administration of the hotel, The Big Lines and unusual check in/ check out times. It is decent but it has the potential to be a great hotel

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and booked a Red Level upgrade...after a 45 minute wait in line to check in we were informed we could have checked in at the Red Level lounge. There were no signs anywhere indicating this and the check in process was entirely too long. I think they had maybe 2 people working the front desk despite the tremendously long line...that being said..IF YOU ARE RED LEVEL OR HIGHER SKIP THE LINE AND GO TO THE RED LEVEL LOUNGE!!! Again because there are no signs to indicate where to go, walk through the open air lobby, past the long line of people waiting to check in, and go to the glass enclosed room on the right with a little red flag on it. This will be where you go for any questions or concerns (they also have a happy hour with free drinks and snacks from 5-7!). Regardless of the clunky start, the resort is very beautiful and extremely well kept. We had a beautiful ocean view from our room (should be noted the beach isn't really swimmable but there are swimming beaches not too far from the resort). There is a pool with a swim up bar and grill but it tends to get loud and crazy over there and the grill had extremely long wait times after ordering...fortunately as a red level you get your own private pool. It's much quieter and has its own bar (sorry not swim up) and plenty of Bali beds to lounge in. Sorry no kids allowed at this pool which is good if you're looking for a quieter area of the resort. The resort has 3 main restaurants..I highly recommend them if you're looking for a good meal and friendly service for a reasonable price..especially Passion. We ate there three times! I recommend their chicken mofongo and a mojito..they make AMAZING mojitos. My only other complaint would be what happens in the evening from Thursday through Saturday..the clubhouse area has a DJ that plays ridiculously loud club music in the evening so if you're looking for a quiet evening at the resort..Thursday through Saturday is NOT the time to be there. All in all we DID have a lovely time there. It's a beautiful resort with clean pools and friendly transportation service (lots of on site golf carts bring you to and from your room whenever you need them. Constantly going back and forth so you really don't have to wait long for one). Our room was always clean and we found the staff friendly and helpful. I hope this review helps any future Red levelers out there!
