The good: -Staff was friendly -Grounds were maintained very well. It was beautiful on the grounds and also the views of the water. -Rooms were spacious -Appreciative (and surprised) that the kayak's were free -Didn't have any trouble with bugs, despite being warned to wear bug spray -Water and Ice stations everywhere. -Golf course was very nice but the driving range was closed. The indifferent: -Food: I'm not a foodie, so I don't have a judgment on the food quality. I didn't have to make it, therefore it was good to me. -We walked everywhere. If you can't do this, you may be a bit inconvenienced but we liked the walk especially after meals. -We're not big drinkers but be aware of all the food and beverage fees you are paying if you are cost-conscience. -Plan your dining reservations well in advance or you will be eating dinner at 9pm. -Rooms were pretty quiet, we never heard our neighbors. -Seemed to have a fair amount of kids activities though it wasn't something we took advantage of. -We're not big beach people, but if you want to walk the beach or into the water make sure you bring hard-soled beach shoes or water shoes. It's very shell-y and you will not walk comfortably barefoot. There is a beach area for swimming but it is not for snorkeling. It is beautiful from the shore to look out, but if you are looking for crystal-clear swimming water you'll need to take an excursion to another beach. The bad: -SO SO SO disappointed in the pickleball courts. If you are a family goofing around with kids you won't mind, but if you are a serious player and want to play a competitive match, they are completely unplayable. The courts are sportcourt tiles which is not mentioned (nor pictured) on the website. The ball bounces too low off them, and also bounces crooked if it hits a seam and since the tiles are 12x12, the whole court is seams. Balls that are hit low and hard will skid rather than bounce at the right height which make them almost unreturnable. We had plans to meet up and play a lot on our trip with colleagues going down for a conference, but we lasted 5 minutes. It was so upsetting because we'd hoped to play every day for a couple hours. Especially since the tiles seem to be placed on top of a tennis court surface! They'd be better off taping down the lines with painter's tape (which many places do) rather than use these tiles. I hope they change it in the future or lay down a proper surface. -I paid $27 for a 5.5oz (smaller than store-bought) can of sunblock. This is going to haunt me for a while. I thought I brought enough but ran out. But, this pricing is also ridiculous. I expected to have to pay maybe $15 which is already 50% more than it would be at a store. Make sure you bring every toiletry you need. -The golf carts are nice if you need rides but they are loud. We had a garden facing room with a balcony and it was lovely, but every few minutes when a golf cart went by it sounded like a big roaring truck. You don't hear it in the room but I was working frequently on the balcony and it kind of ruined the peaceful vibe. We did see a few electric golf carts and those were so much quieter. Hopefully they'll be replacing the older, loud ones. -The gym is totally inadequate for a resort of this size. Embarassing really. A cheap to mid-priced hotel like Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn has just as much equipment as this gym. -The pool is absolutely enormous, which is really nice to spread out in if you want to have an adult space away from the kids. The downside is when you have to go to the bathroom. There is only one bathroom for the pool area and it is at one far end. This sounds ridiculous but it really is too far of a walk. There should really be a bathroom at each end. I always chose a seat closer to the bathroom. I didn't see a lot of people going in and out (compared to the volume of people at the pool) so I don't know where they were peeing... Overall, this is probably the only time we'll be visiting Puerto Rico so we probably won't be back. I would recommend it overall, especially if you are looking for a quiet resort rather than a bustling one. But I would have been much happier had the pickleball courts been better.
