Upon entering this unassuming gates you are transported into a world that is authentic. You feel the Mayan culture the minute you drive down the unfinished road and upon entering the front you realize it is real and it is amazing. The lobby is open aired and inviting. Once you walk through the pool area you enter the magnificent beach - perfect place to host a wedding or party. There is a wonderful lawn that is perfect for a wedding dinner, for those who do not want to get their feet sandy. From the food to the drinks it is sheer perfection. The service is impeccable , the staff attentive to every detail. The rooms are spacious and lovely.

What an amazing time! My boyfriend and I celebrated a friend's wedding at the Belmond Maroma and it was nothing short of dreamy. Besides the fact that it was a beautiful and intimate wedding, the staff was top notch and the food was delicious every day. The service never let us down and to be a private beach away from the crowds, truly made each day feel magical. We spent days by the pool and on the beach, and even enjoyed the gym, which had really nice equipment and weights. I highly recommend this resort for couples and close friends, who want relax, keep it chill and classy.

When you arrive and they say welcome home, this is just the beginning of the a true family experience. You are treated with love. By everyone. This is a true beach vacation, but in many ways much more than that. The grounds are gorgeous and the sound of the ocean is the best sound accompaniment day and night. You never have to rush for a beachside seat, lounger or beac bed. One of at least three common pools are denoted adult but every pool seems equally relaxing. A recent visit to Paris confirmed for me that it has declined on the food scene especially compared to Montreal. The cooking here is among the best I have ever had. The ingredients are spectacular, the seafood incomparable and the cooking is almost an indescribable interplay of sweet, hot and sour but never cloying. I could go on and on but the love pours out from every member of staff and it infuses the experience. You should come here and just stay here. It is absolutely amazingly rejuvenating, just try to keep the fantasy of never leaving here at bay.

We had a wonderfully peaceful 2-night stay at the Belmond Maroma, which is an easy 30 minute ride from the Cancun Airport. The property is beautiful, with many stucco and thatch-roofed bungalows and buildings dotting an expansive, tropically lush landscape. Our Deluxe Garden View Room on the second floor overlooking one of the pools was well-appointed, with a spacious bathroom and outdoor patio. We didn't venture into Playa del Carmen, and, though expensive relative to what you'd pay in town, the food at the resort was really quite good, with El Sol offering a nice interpretation of traditional Mexican food. Having so few rooms, the resort never felt crowded, and so it was always easy to sit down for a meal or get a bed on the beach. The oft-acclaimed service was as superb as we expected. Being one of the earliest luxury properties in the Riviera Maya had its pros and cons. The elegance and charm of the resort (Moorish-Mayan architecture and design, colorful tilework, the many archways, alcoves and patios) are hard to come by in newer developments, and the renovation honors the origins of the resort while adding contemporary luxuries (more pools, more bars, etc). On the flip side, despite its endearing quality, our room did feel dated. With so many hotels having opened on the Riviera Maya since Maroma and for the price we paid, we'd be interested in trying one of the newer ones on our next visit (El Dorado Maroma, Viceroy, Rosewood Mayakoba). But that detractor shouldn't take away from the fact that the hotel was extraordinarily beautiful and the service was exemplary.
