Samoset Resort On The Ocean

This is our stay-cation place. We go on average once a year, sometimes more. It’s a great place for families. The outside pool can be a bit noisy for adults looking to relax and have quiet. But the pool will keep your kids entertained. The hot tub rules of kids under a certain age is not enforced, but most places don’t enforce this, sadly. The service at the pool is great and food is very good at the splash bar. Amenities at the pool are excellent. Lots of games/ toys/ good bathrooms nearby. Views are outstanding, some of the best in the world. Inside pool has great new furniture, but pool is too cold and hot tub is sad and needs to be replaced. The room itself needs some natural light. The size is amazing. The rooms around the pool with inside games are super for families. The space for families is unbeatable. The outside fire pit with smores is super, though housekeeping needs to patrol it for empty glasses. The inside fires are wonderful, they make you want to linger and relax. Service is good not great, often having to wait a long time for a server. This has been an ongoing issue. The spa is world class. I travel a lot and have had treatments all over the world. These are magnificent. And the spa itself and gift shop at the spa are excellent. Make sure to book a treatment or two. The property is one that is designed to not have to leave. I love this. Once I am settled I don’t want to leave. But if you do, there are a lot of things to do and places to visit nearby. Gift shop is cute and fun. Front desk is always helpful and prompt. There will not be help with your luggage, but there are carts to use. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Rooms are well appointed and large. Beds and linens are beyond comfortable. The pull out beds are not good. They are not comfortable. The rooms with the hot tubs on the deck are great. Some things should improve with them though, need to be improved given the cost. The furniture needs to be cleaned with jomax cleaner, this cleans the type of furniture it is. I live in Maine—- I know this. Things need to be checked like that all the lights work, that the fridge and freezer work. Bring a sharp knife and cutting board and salt and pepper. There is ample room for snacks and drinks in the room. There are robes, safes, ample storage. Overall this is an amazing place year round. And don’t forget to do a daily walk to the lighthouse.

The room was great, had ocean view and balcony BUT for $700 a night, The children are running up and down hallways, playing and yelling on grass below balcony not the dedicated play area. That pool that looks so nice, the depth is only 5’ both ends so making the entire pool kid friendly and they give out balls etc to play so don’t think of relaxing or even swimming while a football is being tossed around in it. Also all chaise lounges overlook the pool, they should be on other side looking at view. I know it’s summer but the lack of some adult only areas or even wings( there are many) or adult times around pool make it not the quieter resort I was hoping for. Will not be returning Room service was average at best. Gave us wrong order and chicken was tough.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Samoset. It’s one of those rare resorts where there is plenty to do without ever feeling like you need an itinerary. Our family spent time at the pool, played tennis, enjoyed the playground and s’mores, walked out toward the jetty and water, and simply enjoyed being on the property. I couldn't fit in a tee time, but have played previously and it is beautiful. The location is fantastic for exploring Rockland, Rockport and Camden, but some of our favorite time was just staying at the resort and enjoying everything there. Most importantly, the entire property has a relaxed, welcoming feel that made it very easy for all four of us to enjoy the trip in our own way. By the time we left, we were already talking about making Samoset a recurring family tradition. Beautiful property, wonderful staff and a fantastic few days in Midcoast Maine. We’ll absolutely be back.

My immediate and extended family have loved coming to Samoset for over 40 years, continuing as an annual vacation now with my husband and daughter. The drive to get there is scenic with great spots to stop along the way as a native to Maine or for those visiting from away; the grounds and accommodations are gorgeous and well kept; we never tire of the stunning view and watching the boat traffic; the staff is top notch - efficient, friendly and welcoming; food and beverages are delicious with several options between the pool area, within the hotel, and clubhouse as well as wonderful options nearby for food and shopping; plenty of parking; there is an indoor and outdoor pool plus hot tubs; lots of activity options outdoors and a well equipped fitness center. We always feel safe walking around the grounds and loved the fire pit with s’mores at night, and star gazing. It is wonderful for couples and families, and my parents have also had a great experience each year with the timeshare section of Samoset. We cannot wait to return.

Lovely Resort, but service and pet policy severely lacking. We have been here a few times over the last 20 years and always look forward to our stay. This was the most disappointing experience ever… We brought our 2 small well-behaved dogs. Despite the $100 PER DOG - PER NIGHT fee, you will not see a fraction of that during your stay. We were never offered the bowls or beds they claimed to have in room, just a little goody bag with a denta-bone treat sample and 3 poo bags. Most disappointing was the room locations we were offered during our 5 night stay booked months in advance. Website says dog friendly rooms are “strictly limited to ground level with easy access outside.” Night 1 we were placed on the second floor. After expressing our confusion, they relocated us to a ground floor room with no outside access unless you like to climb down a boulder retaining wall or cross right over another guest’s porch. (See photo) Dining with dogs was limited to the patio where there were only a handful of tables and seating areas. One night I sat at the bar waiting for a space to open up. I would have liked a cocktail while i waited but the bar tenders had no interest in acknowledging me. Not even a hello. 2 hours later we finally found a spot to sit big enough for 5 people and 2 small dogs. Additionally, the majority of the service/wait staff felt like privileged kids who had no desire to work but got the job because of connections. I sat at the pool bar and lounge bar on several occasions and was never acknowledged. Not even a “be with you in a moment.” I left those situations feeling frustrated, hangry, and like a piece of $#!% The lounge was chaotic at dinner time. No hostess desk to check in, just a fend for yourself seating situation. They only had 2 servers and both seemed overwhelmed. Overall, I give this trip 2 stars based solely on the location and lovely rooms. Zero stars for service —100 stars for pet policy. We will not be back and are very sad about it. This place used to be our favorite. Now we hate it.
