This Boutique hotel is situated in a residential area away from the various tourist attractions in Rome which was nice as you weren't in the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas from morning to night. The hotel provides a shuttle service which conveniently drops you off by the Piazza di Spagna which is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel. The room we had was a junior suite and was an free upgrade by the hotel when they heard my wife and I were celebrating an anniversary with this trip to Italy. The room was clean and nice sized with a large bathroom which housed a bathtub and a shower. At the time of our stay, the hotel provided free local calls via a cellphone in the room which was convenient when confirming booked excursions. The hotel desk staff while attentive and accommodating were not as personable as the staff in the other hotels we stayed at in Florence or Venice. I must admit, it could have been inability to speak an inkling of Italian and lack of confidence to try. As far as accommodations, the hotel was comfortable, clean, and quiet. If you're looking for a boutique hotel, The Duke Hotel in Rome might fit the bill.

We stayed at The Duke for 4 nights on a recent trip to Rome. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous and helpful. The hotel provided a complimentary shuttle to a convenient starting point for sightseeing. It was necessary to make reservations for the shuttle at the front desk since the vehicle was a small van. We had no problem getting a spot reserved when we wanted it. Our room was spotlessly clean as well as the common areas of the hotel. The breakfast buffet had a nice variety of items to select and was nicely presented. There is a small market next door to the hotel which was very handy to pick up a few items we needed. The hotel has a restaurant with what looked like a nice menu; however, our schedule didn't permit time to eat there. We didn't see other restaurants nearby since the Hotel is located in somewhat of a neighborhood instead of a business area.

Don't be fooled by the promise of a free shuttle to ease the stress of getting to and from the city centre. With only 6 places per trip, it's a constant battle to get the slot you want especially when group bookings are given priority and the best times. We are still here on our vacation and are having to spend so much time working out schedules with the hotel which doesn't make for a relaxing vacation and results in a lot of wasted time hanging around (and subsequently writing this review, which I'd normally do when I get home!). For example, shuttles returning to the hotel from the city centre after 16.00 until about 17.45 tend to be booked up as well as any shuttles returning after 22.30. We have paid for a taxi a few times which is about 10 euros to or from the city centre but it is expensive to do this every day. When we tried to book times for the whole week we were quite rudely told this was not possible and could only do 1 day in advance, even though groups have booked up times for the whole week (which is why they aren't available for us to book). After insisting we managed to book one repeat slot but not without a rather bad attitude from the man at reception. With all this running around to make the times work, and make it to our restaurant reservations we never have the opportunity to redeem the free drink on offer each evening, which sounds like a nice idea in theory. Other than that the hotel is clean and but quite dated. It's definitely not as good as other 4* hotels we've stayed in and feels more like a 3*. We booked a superior room but it feels nothing like this standard. For example the "large double bed" is actually two singles pushed together which is quite uncomfortable and the fixed shower head with spikey water flow and fabric shower curtain is quite unpleasant. Our room (216) is also looking out on a lorry loading area which can be noisy in the mornings (the earliest having been at 06.40) which is something I would expect from the worst, cheap rate room in a hotel, not a superior room. The breakfast has a good selection of fresh fruit, bacon and scrambled eggs but the bread and pastries are on the stale side. The only really friendly and helpful member of staff we have encountered is Massimo who greeted us on our arrival and gave us a very good first impression. The rest have been quite glum, unhelpful and even rude and our impression of this place has gone downhill from there. Maybe Massimo should give them all some training in customer service! If you're happy having your holiday dictated by a hotel shuttle bus timetable then the rest is acceptable if it's the last room in Rome but nothing outstanding and certainly not 4* standard. It's definitely not been a good experience for us and we won't be recommending this hotel to anyone or returning again. If we could have got our money back we would definitely have moved somewhere else for the rest of the week.

We stayed at this hotel on the 4th August 2017 for 3 nights to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary. We travelled with our son and daughter-in-law. What can we say about this beautiful hotel, the staff were amazing nothing was too much trouble especially Marco on reception who could not do enough for you, all you have to do was ask and it was done. We arrived about 11am on the Friday morning, being that it was so early we knew our rooms would not be ready so we were going to just bag drop and go into Rome but Marco said if we waiting about 30 minutes we could have our room. True to his word the rooms were ready and we were upgraded which was unexpected. The breakfast has everything bacon, sausage, eggs, meats, cheese, pastries, cereals, fresh fruits and the list goes on, this give you a good start to the day. The room was very comfortable with all the little toiletry items, dressing gowns and slippers. The room and hotel itself was so clean and well kept. As everyone says they have a shuttle bus which we only used once as we got cabs to take us to Rome and return but the bus is there to use if you want. Would I use this hotel again YES in a heartbeat. Thank you the Duke Hotel and staff for a wonderful stay
