The Gran Melia lies in walking distance of the city attractions and nice restaurants. The hotel itself has a stunning garden and an amazing pool for a city hotel in the middle of Rom. The rooms are ok. The service is ok but not what you would expect from a "Leading Hotel of the World" member. Breakfast buffet was rather small, e.g. fried eggs costed extra! The service staff did take quite a time to clean tables and they just let you stand around if you asked for something. In our rooms we wanted to keep our wet towels and dry it on the rack overnight. The housekeeping did not fold it properly and let it there -as they do everywhere - they folded it and put it back to the place where the dry towels are. It was nice in the morning to only find wet towels after shower. And that happened not once but every night. We would really have expected more attention to details. That is what makes the differencd from fife star to leading hotel!!!

What an amazing Hotel, luxury and friendliness and proximity to all the sights all rolled into one! This is one of the best hotels for location and friendly staff we have ever stayed in. My husband is a wheelchair user, adapted room was perfect. The pool area is lovely and food is authentic and delicious from the restaurant and is appropriately priced for a luxury hotel. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Vatican and we found it ok to do with the wheelchair. We managed to visit all of the main sights in Rome on foot from the Hotel with just one taxi return ride after a long day in this beautiful city. We will be back x

Loved that the hotel is within walking distance of Vatican City - but up a steep hill on the walk back for those that enjoy a cardio challenge. It has clean upgraded rooms within an historic bright and airy building. The windows are small but the views are stunning. Room service is fast and delicious as is their breakfast buffet (add it to your reservation stay- it’s worth every penny) One of the best club sandwiches I’ve had late night after traveling. Unless you are right in front of the concierge desk- they are kind, speak English, but not very helpful. Just making dinner reservations in town was difficult, luckily a colleague who once lived in Rome saw me at the front desk and swooped in to assist. Rooms are efficient but quite small. Lots of pizazz in a small space. We stayed in a 7th floor loft suite which was two levels: closet, bathroom, and bed downstairs; suitcases, chairs, a table and gratis coffee upstairs, so we did the dozen steps every time we changed or ate. Weird layout... I wouldn’t recommend the upgrade unless you are traveling with children and don’t mind them sleeping in the loft. Nice, but not my favorite hotel in Rome.

Well located the Pope is your neighbour, so Vatican close, staff were lovely, room was good, smart stylish well appointed, comfortable and slept well. Great pool , and gardens, and its hard to find a hotel so in the city that feels so in the country. Food was good but the main restaurant was closed for a refurb' and tummy rub . Would go back.

Excellent service, fantastic staff. The hotel was a premium accommodation with modern and luxury amenities. The hotel staff were prompt, provided great service. The location was right by the Vatican and was near all the locations we wanted to get to. They were busy during check in, which took longer than expected. The restaurant had great service and the food was very good. Our private balcony was private and quiet.
