This is a great hotel with truly outstanding service... the rooms and grounds are beautiful, breakfast is delicious and abundant, and it is family-friendly without being child-oriented. If you like (or need) a firm mattress, you will not do better than these beds.

the location in 10-15 minutes walking distance to St Peters Basilica or Castello St Angelo is unbeatable. The rooms are nice and the Dinner Restaurant are excellent. Unfortunately is the service very mixed - some people are very good and attentive whilst others aren't capable to meet simple expectations (orders being fulfilled at breakfast etc). The Spa as such seems to be nice but indoor pool is way to small and the relaxing area is noisy, not warm enough and not relaxing at all.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a weekend recently at the Gran Melia Rome. This was a wonderful experience and we really loved the hotel! The staff was superb and probably the most professional I have ever encountered in a hotel. The concierge spent a lot of care in recommending restaurants based on our interests. The physical space of the hotel, with large gardens and swimming pool, was a real treat in the city of Rome. We really enjoyed coming back at the end of a day of touring to the open space and atmosphere of the hotel. One afternoon we were able to spend time at the lovely pool. Breakfast was included in our price and this was excellent with freshly made pastries. The location is central and we were able to walk to all of the restaurants and sites in Rome quite easily. I would strongly recommend the Gran Melia Rome and we will certainly stay here whenever we are back in that great city.

The Gran Melia has a lovely outdoor swimming pool which came in handy this summer as temperatures approached 100 F during our stay. It was nice to come back after a full day of sight seeing and be able to take a refreshing dip in the pool. Front desk staff could use some improvement as they were not accommodating to some of our requests and also contradictory about their policies regarding Amex Platinum Fine Hotel and Resort perks. Location was very good. Breakfast buffet and bar both excellent. Beds very comfortable.

My travel partner had never been to Rome. We had only two days to explore the city and The Vatican and Colosseum were “must-sees.” With the location of this knock-out hotel, and using ItaliaRail’s Show and Go passes we were able to decide which tours and when according to our timeframe and to skip the ticket lines. The guides were knowledgeable ( one an artist and one an archeologist) and engaging so history came alive for us. But the very best thing was we could walk ( a longer walk to Colosseum) and be back in a peaceful place to relax, have an Aperol spritz or dinner and simply enjoy the lights of Rome turning the city to gold away from the crowed city streets! Love this historic building, hillside setting and all of the modern comforts within a beauautiful, vibrant design.
