The Hotel is a small walk away from the Spanish Steps and Historical Rome. The Room was ok. Be warned there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. No iron or iron board. If you want to have anything ironed you have to pay for it. It was very warm in Rome when we went and the air conditioning in the room was barely making us comfortable at night. All in all it was a ok hotel, but overpriced and not a 5 Star as advertised

This hotel lacks the comfort and finesse of other hotels in the same area and price range. Sorry to say but it is a little dated, lacking a deluxe feel about it although still charming. The decor is nice enough, classic in style with nice public areas, but the homely touch is missing and rooms and facilities are in need of update and renovation. There are better options close by... Some of the Front Desk team were a little bit condescending, which you do not need when asking for help, especially at the prices you pay. Others in the team are more friendly and helpful which persuedes you to forgive the grumpier ones... The Doormen are rather distinguished and polite and direct you in a pleasant and professional manner. The restaurant staff in both Mirabelle and Crystal room are friendly, professional and understand hospitality. Mirabelle is a fine dining venue with an al fresco balcony overlooking the city, which is great for a cocktail at sunset. Didn't eat there as reading some reviews cautioned us, so we didn't give it a chance. We preferred to find somewhere more casual outside to eat and were pleased to discover some exceptional, moderately-priced restaurants surrounding the hotel, which suited our appetites. Crystal has a great breakfast spread and lovely team who ensure fast delivery of the cappuccinos.... excellent team - much appreciated, Our room was in need of renovation, sadly the room did not come with the expected balcony which we had been looking forward to. The bed was old, with a lumpy mattress, pillows hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom has seen better days and could use upgrading, especially the quality of the bath/shower. Towels and amenities are good. A key issue for me was the (free) WiFi which was not very good by today's five star standards. In fact this point alone is why we will not return. We found the free WIFI in most surrounding restaurants to be superior and far faster when downloading. I had to frequently visit one or another restaurant to recover my endless stream of emails, which proved difficult for the hotel service to keep up. Forget about streaming/video messaging, it cannot cope. We have stayed in Rome in this area many times and selected this hotel because of the high ratings we read as well as the location. This is the first but probably the last time we will stay here as there are more comfortable and better facilities in this price range. We were looking forward to staying but were disappointed.

What a beautiful hotel! The staff was very attentive to our needs. Nice view if the Vatican from the restaurant. The rooms are well appointed. The breakfasts were very good! Excellent assortment of foods from eggs to yogurt.

The Splendide is a smallIsh boutique style hotel and it is extremely well located as it is right by the Villa Borghese gardens and is by consequence is relatively peaceful and safe at night but it remains close to all of the attractions It’s uphill from the crowds and traffic pollution that is rapidly grinding Rome to a standstill It is a grand ornate building and the rooms match that, although in places it’s showing its age. The staff were exceptional, special credit to the doormen and reception desk personnel Our bed was relatively comfy but was only queen size, it’s unusual to have such a small bed as standard for a 5 star European capital hotel. We were on the 5th floor and our room was spacious enough with the ability to open the window which for us is a pre-requisite, we can’t sleep with a closed window! Bathroom was adequate although the toilet was set too close to the wall – it proved uncomfortable as the seat kept moving. The bath tub was extremely narrow and impossible to use although the shower was efficient and plentiful high pressure water was readily available. Free gratis shampoo etc etc was supplied in adequate quantity and air con was effective - also OK Wi-Fi was free if you knew how to fill in the on line form: P The view from our room was only of other walls and windows around a central courtyard – more of that later! We didn’t eat in the restaurant nor use the bar or mini bar but we did use the breakfast room once – it has fantastic views. Breakfast wasn’t included and was at a high price but probably in line with similar Roman establishments. It was satisfactory without being anything more than ordinary, certainly not a patch on say the Danielli in Venice. I noticed the same hot trays containing bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs were not changed or refreshed in the hour and a half we were there – for the sake of losing a few Euros they should consider scrapping a la carte breakfast items and doing the right thing by having cooked to order as would do their PR the world of good! NOTE OF CAUTION As previously stated we like our window open – but even with it closed external noise from the courtyard area was clearly audible Unfortunately the hotel shares the central courtyard with others, I think specifically the Lebanese restaurant next door and consequently EVERY night at appx 11.30pm- midnight the crash of empty bottles being emptied into a skip could be heard...and add to that that there is much activity in the courtyard area below from about midnight until’s not screaming just loud chatter and laughter; again I believe it to be the staff of the restaurant winding down after a nights work I advised the front desk but I appreciate other that speaking to their neighbours there isn’t much that could be done. So the moral is DO NOT ACCEPT A ROOM THAT OVERLOOKS THE INNER COURTYARD IF YOU LIKE QUIET AT 2AM. All in all we enjoyed our extremely expensive 3 night stay but it was supposed to be 5 star which should mean perfect and alas it wasn’t.

The Splendide Royal provides an amazing classic experience for a Rome hotel. Staff is very pleasant and service oriented. Had a lovely Junior Suite with terrace which I recommend to see the rooftops of Rome and beautiful blue sky.
