The perfect place to stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

An absolutely amazing hotel. The staff were unbelievably courteous and done everything possible to make our stay the best possible experience. The sky bar watching the sunset over rome is epic. Not to mention the amazing food in their restaurant. They made a fantastic holiday into an unforgettable holiday. Highly recommend.

Old world elegance and visit to Rome soured by a staff encounter.

Recently had a family trip in Rome prior to attending a conference here. Chose to come back to stay at the Hotel Splendid Royal (for a business stay) after many years to this hotel, after having enjoyed other stays at neighboring luxury hotels in Rome (Excelsior and The Hassler). The new room was beautiful with a wonderfully appointed bathroom. The dining experience was very memorable and (unlike some reviewers), I thought the breakfast buffet was very nice - with very nice service by the staff in that dining venue. Also, I want to counter what another reviewer had written about the upstairs bar. I think the open air bar is fabulous and the staff were observed to be incredibly welcoming and accommodating to the guests. True hospitality from that team up there! For those new to Rome and considering a hotel, this is a lovely area that is very convenient to certain business (eg accounting, banking) and embassies. However, if you are coming as a tourist, you should note that it is quite a walk up and down the Spanish Steps if planning to do traditional sightseeing in Rome. Walking up can be the challenge for some folks. It is about a 10 minute walk (maybe less) down to the Spanish Steps and maybe another 10 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain from there. The hotel area is quiet at night - and not an area overrun by crowds. Now the disappointing part: I was here for a conference - not as a tourist or a cruise ship visitor. As a result, I was dressed for business. Before a reader jumps to a conclusion, I was not "The Ugly American", but instead was perhaps so kind that this person thought I was stupid or an inexperienced traveler. As mentioned in other posts, there was one front desk person with a most unwelcoming and condescending attitude to not only myself, but another guest. A colleague also observed that a member of the front desk was quite rude to us as Amex members. I am suspecting that this hotel is now annoyed that guests use American Express. As someone who has traveled throughout Europe and SE Asia using American Express, I have only experienced this attitude at only one Amex featured property hotel - and it is this one. Perhaps, it is because this hotel now seems to be filled with so many American tourists or American cruise ship passengers? Message to the rude front desk person who was such contempt for Amex members. You can learn a lot from your "team members" who are upstairs tending bar, clearing tables, taking orders, and cleaning your hotel rooms - they work hard and make your position possible. All business is people business, but especially the hospitality business.

Spectacular.......from the delectable food to the impeccable service. Not to mention the stunning and picturesque views we enjoyed from our table situated out on the terrace. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Great Hotel

Arrival was smooth. Room was ready. Staff was excellent and friendly. Room was immaculate. Housekeeping made sure the room was cleaned the minute we left. Great location and terrific experience. Breakfast in the morning was a highlight. Lots of selection with staff that literally remembered your coffee order day after day! Would highly recommend and return.

Fantastic food & restaurant

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Restaurant and food fantastic, great staff especially the waiter Mr Wow. We had upgrade to balcony, not realy worth it as balcony is shared and you can't sit a chair on them as to narrow. Standard Europe plugs do not fit the sockets the socket holes are smaller, if you have the thinner pin plug from 1980's they fit. Shop 100m to the left of the hotel sell adaptor for €1.90 hotel sells them for €5.
