Reviews for The Westin Excelsior Rome
The hotel is conveniently located close to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The hotel has a beautiful lobby, we found the bar/cocktails great and the breakfast was also very good. We did not have dinner here. Upon entering our room, we were greeted by a strong odor. It affected me so much, we asked for a new room. The hotel accommodated our request. It may have something to do with the ventilation system. It definitely wasn't the carpet or furnishings. The bed was comfortable. As per other reviewer comments, we found some of the staff stand-offish. The front desk and some of the wait staff at breakfast. The bellmen and the chambermaids were wonderful.

This hotel is exceptional in every way! Five star service all the way room is clean and comfortable even though a bit dated. There was no coffee and tea service in room either which was a bit of a let down. But the bed was great as were the pillows! Rita, the lady that checked Us in was very sweet and courteous and was so happy to give us our wonderful big room. Hotel is also very close to Spanish steps and Trevi fountains and the metro station. Breakfast buffet was also exceptional with a huge variety of selections.

Great history but marginal service. Checked in at 2pm and because of "gold " status was told that we were getting upgraded room. Nothing further from truth. Standard size room overlooking inner court with mechanical apparatus. Later in day asked Concierge for directions to local historical site. Was handed map on which he circled location of hotel and that was it. Staff was totally disengaged. Appeared we were doing them a favor by staying here.... Important Wake up call on last day of stay "never came." Such a shame! Stayed at Westin in Florence where staff actually seemed to take great pride in providing superior service. This hotel will probably not crack Top 35 for a long time, if ever.

We stayed in Rome for 5 days at the Westin. As Starwood Platinum Members they treated as like royalty. Upgraded to a suite and could not do enough for us. Location perfect, concierge great and rooms spacious. Located right next to Borghese park so great access for peaceful walks in a big city. A must to stay in Rome. Dick Benedetti.

Stayed here 3 1/2 years ago and had several criticisms - most have been resolved. First, the reception was very pleasant and friendly, a big improvement over the last visit. My only disappointment was that our room was not available until almost 3 pm despite a Platinum SPG request for late morning checkin. The room was large, nicely re-decorated since last visit - interesting that this hotel has lots of problems with guests spilling things onto the carpet. Despite the carpet being probably only a couple of years old, there were some stains on it. Granted, far fewer than on previous visit. Bathroom is large, pleasant, excellent towels and excellent shower head. Breakfast was one of the best, possibly the best, of any hotel during our trip to Italy. Good location in one of the nicest areas of Rome - short taxi ride to Roma Termini. It's a short walk to Piazza Barberini, where one can catch the hop-on-hop-off bus tours. It's a little pricey though, in terms of both euros and Starwood points.
