I had high expectations of the hotel having read various reviews and I have to say they were met. A modern hotel in an excellent location, we had room 206 and it had superb views and very comfortable beds. The rooms are a good size and had excellent bathrooms. As was mentioned in a previous review the walk into Rovinj was blocked by work on the neighbouring hotel which was disappointing and out of the Monte Mulini's control. However we left on Tuesday 20 June and I think it was due to open that day. The staff couldn't have been more helpful which you should expect in a hotel of this quality but experience has told me you don't always get. We ate in the 2 restaurants the mediterranean and the wine vault. Staff were excellent and the Sommelier was very helpful in suggesting local wines that we would like. Food was good and they try very hard to give you that first class service. In the mediterranean i had a steak that was tough and it was exchanged immediately and a fresh steak prepared. The staff were friendly knowledgeable and really good fun making both meals a nice experience. Bars were good both at the pool and in the hotel. Rovinj has some excellent restaurants particularly if you like fish and the staff were helpful in their suggestions of where we should eat. The hotel gardens are fantastic and contain a great variety of birdlife including woodpeckers. In summary we had a great holiday and will be looking to return next year.

This is a very nice restaurant with beautiful facilities. If you're not planning on staying a few days and taking advantage of the cove, beach area and pools its probably not worth staying here. The rooms are nice, service is good and food is good. We ate in the restaurant one night. However, when we booked the hotel we were told it was a short walk to town. They currently are having construction and the short walk along the water is blocked. It was a good 30-40 minutes with the last part uphill to walk from town. Learned later that there was a shuttle bus- wish we had known that.

Our beautiful room overlooked the Adriatic and was extremely comfortable and well appointed. The staff was extremely helpful - they helped in sorting out a little Avis snafu, which made life on vacation a lot less stressful. Entire property is delightful.

There are many good reviews of this hotel and many with which I agree. The staff were courteous and discreet and the girls who serviced our room deserve a special mention. Breakfast was served 6:30 to 11:00 with every item you could think of available and coffees and food such as omelettes, waffles, pancakes and eggs were cooked to order via the waiters/waitresses. Our Executive Double room no. 127 was indeed a lovely room with the all the advantages already reviewed by others. Molton Brown toiletries in the large bathroom where the towels were changed daily or even twice a day. Dressing gowns and slippers provided and a lovely spacious shower with hand held and overhead shower. There was also access to the wardrobe from both the hallway and bathroom. The bed was very comfortable with linen of the best quality and with very plump pillows and a chocolate left on the pillow each evening. A bottle of water was left in the room every day, there was a mini-bar in the room and a safe in the wardrobe. The rooms and corridors are carpeted so there is very little noise from other guests. The hotel classes itself as pet friendly and there were several guests with dogs whilst we were there which is not something we have encountered before and the area is popular with cyclists with bikes available at the hotel. However, there were some disappointments to our holiday. Room 127 must have the most restricted sea view of a 'Executive Double or Twin room with Sea View'. There are many trees surrounding the hotel which add to its attractiveness, but in front of room 127's balcony stands one that is overdue for pruning. The only way to view the sea from room 127 is by leaning against the balcony and peering round room 128s privacy screen. One of the attractions of the hotel when we booked was the fact that there is a promenade to walk to the town. However, what we discovered was that a stretch of the promenade between the hotel and the town was closed because a new hotel and marina were being built. We were not informed of this before we arrived or when we checked in. It was only when we went to speak to the Concierge that we were given a map showing the route for walking into the town and informed that a courtesy taxi ran between the hotel and the town every hour. It isn't an unpleasant walk through the residential area to reach the town but much further and hillier than the promenade walk would have been. The courtesy taxi went between the hotel and Rovinj centre throughout the day but some arrogant guests treated it like their own private taxi, jumping the queue. A notice was left in our room on the Thursday of our stay to say that one of the events of a local open air music festival was going to take place at the hotel on the Saturday evening. The event was billed as 'contemporary theatre and dance'. To accommodate this event access to public parts of the hotel were restricted for part of Friday evening. The performance itself started at 21:30 on Saturday evening and was scheduled to continue until 1am. By about 10pm the 'music had turned into a mixture of rap (in Croatian) and beatbox drumming. The event took place in front of the beach bar and the speakers were directed towards the hotel. A trio in the open air part of the hotel restaurant had to compete with this din in an effort to entertain diners. Last year we stayed in the 4-star Hotel Park in Makarska. When we arrived there we were informed that one wing of the hotel was being refurbished. To thank guests for their tolerance and patience the hotel gave each of us a small gift. In practice we were hardly inconvenienced at all and we left with a high regard for the way that we had been treated. By contrast we left the 5-star Monte Mulini feeling that its management hadn't acknowledged the inconveniences that we had experienced while staying there. For anyone going to the Monte Mulini this summer we understand that the building work will be halted and that the promenade will reopen for the season.
