Starbucks Hotel Monica Overcharges

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Visited the Starbucks and purchased several items. 20 min. later went back to purchase a doppio espresso. Was charged $17.58 for an espresso. Didn’t notice until a week later. Called store but they don’t answer their phone. Called Starbucks and was told it’s a franchise we can’t see specifics of the order. 1 hour more of my time and still ripped off for $15+ dollars. Seriously. How often does this happen?

Great Location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Wonderful location and a nice vibe. Good service, room and pool area. Conveniently located close to St. George Street and all the Downtown St. Augustine has to see. Horrible beds not good for sleeping. Starbucks located downstairs along with a restaurant we didn’t get a chance to try.

Great hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We just came back from a week in St. Augustine. This hotel was in a perfect location--right in the heart of town and in walking distance to all the shops. The hotel was very clean, the room was spacious, and the concierge was friendly and attentive. The only "cons" were the shower took 20 minutes to heat up and fluctuated with cold/scalding water, and the 4 times we ordered service to the room or the pool, it was always wrong. However, their full restaurant downstairs was great--probably the best food in all of St. Augustine (as we tried many different restaurants). We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back for a stay at Casa Monica.

Bit by something in room 341

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I recently stayed here for two nights for my boyfriend's birthday. On the second night I woke up with a line of tiny red bug bites down my upper stomach, and a few more down my calf. They are very itchy and swelled up into welts. When I showed the bites to the hotel manager, she told me that she would have the room checked out by pest control and would give me a call to let me know what they find. I left the hotel right after this and have not received any update. I have never had this experience before, especially not with a hotel at this price point.

Two 'Meh' nights

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I am Marriott Lifetime Titanium and booked a king room for two nights using 134,000 Bonvoy points. We were in town for a wedding in March 2024. I also put in for an upgrade using my Bonvoy suite night upgrades, but nothing was available. Check-in was pleasant, the person at the front desk welcomed us with two glasses of champagne and water and informed us of my Titanium benefits. For those with appropriate Bonvoy status don't get too excited. They give you $8 per person to cover breakfast, but all that covers is the ridiculously minimal 'Continental' offering that is on the menu (see pic of menu). I believe this is a "Kessler" (the owners) decision since this was my second stay at a Kessler owner property in as many days and they both only gave $8. This hotel chain should be embarrassed when a Marriott Courtyard hotel in the middle of nowhere gives a $10 credit and all they are giving is $8. Especially when these Kessler hotels are of far higher quality than a Courtyard. Our room was small and was showing its age. The furniture was beat up and the general feel was just worn-out. Also, it did not have a refrigerator (they did bring one on a cart a few minutes after I requested it). The shower had a curtain instead of doors (this was not an accessible bathroom, so it should have had doors), and the water smelled of low tide (I suspect the water smell if with most of the hotels in that area but I’m not sure). The best thing about the room was that the bed was comfy, and the AC was ICE-COLD! No joke it went down to 60deg, and it was awesome! The gym was almost non-existent and clearly an afterthought for the owners (again this was my second stay at a Kessler owner property this week and both hotels had tiny ill-equipped gyms). We did have breakfast each morning and the food was very good (that $8 put a small dent in my $32 bill lol). As for location, this is another great reason to stay here. It is right in the heart of St. Augustine, and everything is within walking distance. All-in-all, a decent stay. However, if I were paying for a stay I would certainly look around for a hotel with nicer rooms. Maybe the Hilton a few blocks away would be my choice, especially since I’m a Diamond member and they are giving a credit of $15 per person a day to cover breakfast (I verified this with another couple who was staying there for the wedding).
