Reviews for Casa Monica Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection
My wife and I stayed at Casa Monica last Saturday night. The front desk staff was friendly and let us check in a little early on Saturday afternoon. Our second floor room was clean and had a nice view of the park, to the north. Our stay would have been great if not for nearby guests returning to their rooms regularly, between midnight and 4 am, talking loudly and letting their doors slam shut. They all seemed to know each other, so I am guessing that they may have been there for a wedding? The room doors do not do a very good job of blocking noise. We could understand everything that was being said. We only managed to get about 4 hrs of sleep, but had a great weekend, otherwise. Inconsiderate people seem to be everywhere these days, so it was not the hotel's fault. Just be aware that for some reason, sound really travels in these rooms on the second floor.

Wonderful rooms, very spacious. Note: be certain to request a room near the elevator as some of the rooms require quite a walk from the elevator. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Good location to spend time in St Aug’s.

Stayed one night at Casa Monica so that we could have a couple of days visiting St Augustine on the north east Florida coast. St Augustine is the oldest 'European' settlement in the USA, established in 1565. It was a welcome change to the blandness of Orlando, lots of old houses, old streets and history spanning over 500 years. I was interested to discover that Francis Drake burnt the place down in 1586 and we did it again in 1702 so the oldest remaining buildings date from then. A visit to Castillo de San Marcos is a must and we had an excellent lunch at Harry's Bar which was very reasonably priced. Casa Monica hotel dates from the 1880's and retains the elegant decor of past times. Staff very attentive, no problems whatsoever.

Sometimes I am glad I am a Marriott Rewards Gold member. One of those times was supposed to be a romantic getaway we drove 9.5 hours for. One that was affordable by using a not-insubstatial number of points. Had we paid full price, my review might well have been different. First, the good. The hotel is gorgeous. Stunningly so. The rooms are amazing and tastefully appointed. The concierge was spectacular at arranging (and rearranging when our drive didn't go as planned) dinner plans for us. The bell hops and valets were absolutely the best. Oh, and the location is amazing. Perhaps because we booked so late (I certainly wouldn't want to think it was because we used points) we ended up in a room with a half window overlooking grass at eye level... grass that led to the pavilion and pool. Thankfully, it was raining hard enough no parties were held on the pool deck. The lobby was louder than Central Station, and I always felt like any question I asked the staff at the front desk was an imposition (with the exception of one person). The resort fee got us two sangrias we had to sit at the bar area (open to the frenetic lobby) to drink, wireless internet, and access to a pool club located on the beach we absolutely couldn't use with the amount of rain falling. So, for us, we got two sangrias for $22 a night. We came to celebrate our anniversary and certainly understand there are weddings and such going on, but there was nary a quiet corner to be found. Perhaps the bright spot to the frenetic lobby was one staff member who always had a smile. She made our one full day in St. Augustine so much better just by offering a kind word and a much-needed umbrella so we could walk in the rain. My guess is the level of service is much better when there aren't several weddings going on. Then again, if I'm going to spend 80k points (or $650) plus $100 in resort and valet fees for two nights, I kind of expect a wee bit more.
Very good property with the staff to match it. Guests must be aware that this is an ancient building converted into a hotel. Hence, some rooms might be smaller for their class, windows might be small etc... Marriott rewards members receive some nice perks. Make sure you add your number in the reservation. The beach club access in the summer is awesome!
