Pirates used to be a major concern for The Buccaneer – in the 17th Century, the great house had to be hidden in thick vegetation far from the eyes of roving marauders. A Danish baron turned it into a sugar mill in the 1700s, and in 1947 the Armstrong family opened small hotel where guests – called “continentals” – would make their own drinks and help rake the beach. In the years that followed, Lauren Bacall, Michael Jackson and Johnny Carson all graced the hotel register. Recall The Buccaneer’s colorful past with bright, traditionally appointed guestrooms and a bar menu of classic cocktails – Cruzan Confusion, anyone?

I was at the Buccaneer hotel from Thursday June 26th-30th. The island is nice resort okay. It is so boring, overpriced! Slowest service I've ever experienced and I've been to many Caribbean Islands. We ate at Beauragards, we waited over 2 hours for our food. I had ahi tuna. Poor couple next me waited even longer and they ordered before me! I would not return to this property.

We were returning to The Buccaneer, a resort we enjoyed with our small children almost 30 years ago. This time we came with our daughter and our granddaughter. I made reservations at the hotel restaurants thinking we would eat there every night. After one dinner at The Terrace we rented a car and made reservations at restaurants in Christiansted. The service was just appalling....especially at The Mermaid, which is the lunch spot by the beach. The servers there were surly, reluctant to take orders and the kitchen slow to get food out...after a lunch that literally took 2 hours, most of it waiting, we started going to lunch off the resort. We did have one final meal with a "fire dance show" at their restaurant near the pool when we had given up our car. Our room was nice with a patio and ocean view and the cleaning staff was excellent. The children's camp, which we would have liked to use a few times, was non-existent. We had an incredible meal at Ama for the same cost as our meal at The Terrace ($300 range for 4), which was mediocre at best. The beaches are lovely, the pool is small but nice...but think twice if you want the ease of resort dining in situ. The morning breakfast buffet is included in the price, but also pretty mediocre. Sorry to say this, but think twice before staying at The Buccaneer!

Another great trip to The Buccaneer for our family. Friendliest staff around. Excellent food. No complaints at all. Everything you could need for your vacation right at the resort, and also conveniently located for exploring the island.

This place is beyond beautiful. The staff was very accommodating as I was there with someone with mobility problems. Loved the lunch menu at the 2 beachside restaurants. They need to be open with this menu later. The front desk was very helpful especially Aldrich. One thing they need to change is the showerheads. They would have been better if the had the hose kind. I usually don't return to places but will make an exception.

My wife and I decided to return to St Croix after not coming to the island since 2014. We were married here on St Croix 23 years ago, and returned to the island 9 other times. This was our first stay at the buccaneer and wow it did not disappoint. From the Staff, to the grounds, to the food. Everything was excellent. The beaches are special. We couldn’t believe the tidal pools to just soak in for hundreds of feet. We loved the old world feel of the property and really appreciated the architecture. All was beautiful at the Buccaneer. Even got in a round of golf (Thanks honey :). All in all another great trip to st crow and a new found place to stay when we come. Loved it.

The Buccaneer in St. Croix was a place of casual elegance. We had an excellent waterfront room. The courteous staff sought to ensure our every need was met. The food was wonderful and the views are breathtaking.
