Pirates used to be a major concern for The Buccaneer – in the 17th Century, the great house had to be hidden in thick vegetation far from the eyes of roving marauders. A Danish baron turned it into a sugar mill in the 1700s, and in 1947 the Armstrong family opened small hotel where guests – called “continentals” – would make their own drinks and help rake the beach. In the years that followed, Lauren Bacall, Michael Jackson and Johnny Carson all graced the hotel register. Recall The Buccaneer’s colorful past with bright, traditionally appointed guestrooms and a bar menu of classic cocktails – Cruzan Confusion, anyone?

This was our first visit to St. Croix, but have had many friends visit and say they loved the island. We travel extensively in the Caribbean, and have been to both St. Thomas and St. John, but I would say that St. Croix has more of a 'chill' vibe to it. We decided to rent a Jeep so that we could be active and visit as many attractions as we could - Bioluminescence Bay with Bush Tribe, Cruzan Cowgirls horseback, Buck Island with Caribbean Sea Adventures, Carambola Zip Lines, beer drinking pigs at Domino Club, etc....... The thing we didn't know was that doing all these things didn't leave as much time as we would have wanted doing the best thing of all - relaxing at The Buccaneer! The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful - Aldrick got us a 2nd fridge for our family room. One night our taxi didn't show up to go to a dinner reservation in town at Christensted and not only did they drive us to the restaurant, but picked us up as well when we couldn't get a cab back to the hotel!!! Shaquida in the Concierge service set us up with multiple reservations for activities and meals, and was extremely helpful! Sadly I wasn't able to get into the golf tournament - some wires apparently got crossed in my reaching out to the golf shop.........but, on a future trip back, I will at some point hit the links! The grounds are beautiful at the Buccaneer. Beaches pristine, no litter anywhere, all facilities are immaculate! There are a few nice little areas to snorkeling right off shore on both beaches. The main pool by Beauregards is heated and fantastic for the kids. Lunches at both Mermaid and Beauregards was great. Breakfast at the Terrace was phenomenal every morning (although the walk up 'heartbreak hill' can be a daunting task some mornings!) - most mornings the waitresses would even go make a lemonade especially for one of my Sons. Dinners were OK at both Terrace and Mermaid (we ate 1/2 our meals at Buccaneer and 1/2 off campus - shout out to Duggan's Reef!). We will absolutely be coming back to St. Croix, but more specifically, The Buccaneer! It has great charm, beautiful grounds, great amenities, a relaxing atmosphere, and most importantly special people working there that are very well trained and really care about the guest!

Had my wedding here in April 2026 with around 50 guests. The staff did a tremendous job organizing the rehearsal, wedding, and reception dinners. Carmen set up everything perfectly and we were very pleased with everything at the buccaneer. She was great and easy to work with as a wedding planner there. We stayed at one of the oceanfront rooms and it was a beautiful view and close to their private beaches on site. The buccaneer is a beautiful and quiet property. The vans were nice being able to transport our guests for free around their property. The one downside would be the limited dinner options at the resort at night as well as pretty high food and drink pricing at the terrace when it is the only place open. Would like a more casual option at night in the future if possible.

The Buccaneer is well managed, clean and provides a friendly environment. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The restaurant serves very good breakfast and dinner. The bar and bartenders are top notch.

We stayed here our last night in St. Croix. It was nice. It has two private beaches... one is good for swimming and the other is more for walking the beach (it's rocky). The food and drinks were good. The room was spacious... a bed and a bathroom. We had to drive down to the beach area because everything is pretty spread out. My husband was going to play the golf course but it looked very brown. We were told that they don't water the fairways because of water issues. It was nice but a lot of money.

Absolutely one of the BEST resorts in the Caribbean. Starting with being greeted upon your arrival at the entrance until your checkout the Staff is there to answer any concerns or requests. They give you the feeling that they enjoy being there, are pleasant, kind and caring. The resort has it all, beautiful landscaped grounds, excellently maintained, beaches, swinning pools, numerous restaurants (with a delicious breakfast included with your stay) and bars with high quality food and beverages for all occassions. There is a senic well maintained 18 hole golf course with a freindly, accommodating staff, tennis courts and games throughout the property. Rooms are very clean and have a design and feeling of true tropical settings. You can experience a quiet setting or enjoy the different types of entertainment from top notch lounge music to local beach festivities. As long time Caribbean residents we have visited many resorts throughout the region and our go to choice is "The Buchcanner", try it you will not be disapointed. Ken & Charmagne St Thomas, VI

The Buccaneer in St. Croix was a place of casual elegance. We had an excellent waterfront room. The courteous staff sought to ensure our every need was met. The food was wonderful and the views are breathtaking.
