Watch your money at Red Mountain Resort!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This was my second visit to Red Mountain resort. The first visit was perfect! The second trip MAJOR FINANCIAL issue!! The resort began taking money out of our accounts without permission!! When we checked in we were asked to put a card on file for $100.00 for incidentals only. Now I don’t know about others but I may not pay my bill with that card and my bill is paid upon CHECK OUT. Red Mountain started removing various amounts of money from both my and my sisters accounts! I looked at my account to find 285.00, 700.00 and 2000.00 withdrawn! They maxed out my sister’s credit card! I was paying for BOTH our stays -WHEN WE CHECKED OUT- not during our stay! She is on a very limited income so maxing out her card was a huge stress for her. It ruined her stay and mine as she had things to pay with that card over the next month. I have NEVER had any hotel just take money from my card without consulting me first! I DEFINITELY DON’T PAY AS I GO FOR A HOTEL BILL WITHOUT BEING CONSULTED!!! The resorts response was it’s a new system and you’ll just have to wait until the bank puts the money back in your account! We’re not all wealthy people with excess money to throw around. I saved to pay for our 10 day stay for a 70th birthday gift to myself. Won’t be going back to the idyllic place I love do you poor management- watch your purse!!

Needed a vacation after this disappointing trip.

Food choices were awful and it was the same menu everyday. They ran out of fruit the second day we were there and it felt like it was limited the rest of our trip. The final bill was completely messed up and took many times of checking over it and a manager needing to fix it until it was correct. Not a relaxing visit and had to get home to be able to relax from the trip. The hikes, wellness classes and spa treatments were excellent.

Wonderful hiking but food leaves a lot to be desired. Resort needs updating

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I was at the resort 18 years ago and loved everything about my experience. This time, the food was so unacceptable, I am not sure I will come back again unless the new ownership dramatically improves the food. The hikes, activites and the grounds are fantastic, however the rooms need updating and most importantly, the meals are just a mess. The menu is the same for each meal everyday with no variations and the food descriptions on the menu are inaccurate and evidently outdated from the previous chef (ie: and burgers and club sandwich have different condiment and they aren't good. Breakfast and Lunch would be much improved by returning to a buffet style dining or combo buffet/a la cart with a small buffet selection. Items on the menu that say they are homecooked are not, but instead purchased from what tastes like the local market. Example, the turkey on the club sandwich was processed lunch meat that was low quality and instead of a remoulade on the sandwich, it comes with some kind of mayonnaise spread; the cookies with ice cream for dessert were stale and the ice cream tasted like something inexpensive from the local market; the breakfast pastry was store bought and stale and not good. It would be so easy to make muffins or scones for breakfast or to offer bagels with a selection of cream cheese, peanut butter, jams, etc. Or offer a partial buffet at lunch and breakfast. Lunch could have a salad bar and a creative help yourself condiment selection. Breakfast could offer cooked eggs, but have a mini buffet similar to a hilton or best western with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals and toppings. Breakfast especially needs to be modified right away as the hikes begin at 8 am and it is very difficult to order and get served quickly enough to get to the hike. We were very, very unhappy with the food quality and selection at the resort and, as much as we love the grounds and hiking, would have to know that the food quality has improved dramatically before we would consider returning again. Such a disappointment.

Very disappointing to repeat guests

Red Mountain used to be so lovely - a beautiful, peaceful, lovely place for a healthy and active timeout from real life. I guess they have different priorities now, as we encountered screaming children, people walking around smoking, and the restaurant has completely changed. If you have been to Red Mountain before, think twice. I'm hopeful once the Black Desert (or whatever) golf place across the road is finished, the golfers and smokers and families can go over there and the rest of us can get back to the early morning hikes, afternoon fitness classes, and healthy meals at the restaurant. But with management so clueless about what made Red Mountain awesome, I am not holding my breath.

Beautiful surroundings, meh hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The view and the grounds of this establishment are spectacular!!! Sadly, the accommodations less so. The "queen mountain view" room was so tiny that we had to go outside to change our minds. Our building was constructed like a motel, with an external door from each room opening onto an outdoor walkway. If we opened the blinds of our one window to enjoy the beautiful view for which we paid extra, anyone walking by would see right into our room without even trying. The clothes closet was small and poorly configured. To get into the tub/shower, one had to climb over an unusually high, wide apron, which was a dangerously precarious maneuver. We didn't particularly enjoy dining the few meals that we had on-site. "Grab and go" sandwiches were mushy. At breakfast my avocado toast had barely any avocado on it and the toast was painfully dry. On the positive side, the bedding was very nice!! The gardening was extremely well done and the ladies in the dining room were kind and hard-working! If you went there purposefully to use the spa and/or fitness programs, you probably would get your money's worth. Alas, we were visiting the area for a wedding and did not have any time to use the facilities. So, for the price, on the basis of quality of the hotel room, it was a little disappointing.

Last August my sister and I used my Luxury Link package to Red Mountain Spa in Saint George, Utah. The spa is all-inclusive and the hikes, classes, lectures, lessons and food are great. The food is healthy, fresh, well-prepared and delicious. The classes go non-stop all day so there is always something to do. We both had GREAT massages - inclusive with the package, a big perk there.

At The Red Mountain Spa in Utah, we were changed to a villa upon request. They were extremely accommodating. It is a lovely setting with wonderful spa food.
