St John is an untampered natural island. Nice marked snokel trails in the Bay. Take a tour of the whole island, be sure to take a light sweater as this is a mountainous island and can get a little chilly the higher you go. Unlike the majority of carribean islands this is one that respects those who simply enjoy peace and quite while there are many things to do they can be done at your own pace. You do not feel the hustle bustle of a vacation atmosphere.

Cancel Bay is gorgeous. Drinks and service are unparalleled to anywhere in US Virgin Islands. For the price and being a five star the actual rooms need to be improved to match the other areas of the hotel.

I have visited St. John many times but usually my family and I have stayed at the Weston which is beautiful. However Caneel Bay was a completely different experience. The grounds are so beautiful, the staff is amazing and there is so much to do on their enormous property that you practically never need to leave. There is a wide range of rooms so just take your pick of what sounds most comfortable! Beautiful snorkeling, hiking, sailing, paddle boarding and tennis playing on property. Highly recommend!!

This was my husband and my second trip to Caneel. We love the setting - the beaches are fantastic! We got the snorkel gear they provide for free and went snorkeling right away. The fish at Little Caneel beach, turtles at Scott, and coral at Turtle Bay did not disappoint. Love that you can sit in the shade under the trees, grab a drink at Scotts bar and just chill. That said, the communication could have been better. We tried to reserve a sailing trip, didn't get a response, asked the front desk about it the next day and were told that the sailing was closed for the season. So no sailing. Then we got our bill and a sailing trip was on it. Same thing regarding the end of year employee party. We had no communications about it and being next to the ferry dock, it was loud. I didn't mind it really, just would have liked to have had someone let us know it was going to occur. Massage was great. Zozos did not disappoint and I loved being able to have chocolate chip pancakes made special every morning. All in all, it was still magical.

We stayed at Caneel Bay this past January. It was our 5th visit to St. John and the first time we did not stay in a villa. We booked a last minute trip with two little kids so we decided to split our time between the two resorts, the Westin and Caneel Bay. We stayed in the Premium Courtside Room as it was the only room that could accommodate our family of 4 (kids were 1 and 4 at the time). I couldn't find much information on these rooms, but they provide a main area that contains a king sized bed, living area and wet bar. Then they have a separate area that has a twin bed. The wall of this separate area does not go up to the ceiling and the door is a folding style door, so it isn't a true separate room, but does provide some privacy. The room also had a huge walk in closet in the main area and another one in the bathroom. This room had so much space, I am not sure why they do not turn them into proper family suites...I think it would be huge value to have a room that could sleep a family with two kids in regular beds. These rooms didn't have a great view and did require a shuttle ride to the main area, but the shuttles ran continuously so it wasn't a big issue for us. Having visited St. John a number of times prior to this, you can truly appreciate how amazing the location is! It was so nice to be able to walk to some of the best beaches on the island without needing to get into the car. One morning my husband and son were questioned for quite some time about being guests at the resort (because only guests can use the chairs/gear/floaties)....I am not sure why they don't just ask for a room number or to see a room key...seems a bit tacky to be questioned at the prices that one pays to stay here. We dined at the sushi restaurant for dinner one night and for lunch twice-it was very good! We also loved the drinks here-they were to good! My 4 year only visited the kids club one day and he was the only one there, but the ladies were nice and he had fun. We would not hesitate to return to Caneel Bay.
