Cocos Hotel in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda

Owned by native Antiguans, the 30 cottages at Cocos Hotel roost on a cliff and overlook iridescently clear waters, where deep blues and minty greens shimmer in streaks on the horizon. The best way to enjoy the view is swinging in a hammock suspended from the roof of each cottage’s rustic terrace, or drifting to sleep on the netting-enveloped princess bed. Chef Pam Clay's West Indian take on Tuscan cuisine attracts a local following.

Journey by boat to Cade's Reef to snorkel among manta rays, spiny lobsters and neon-colored tropical fish. Return to a lounge chair on a secluded beach and let the tide roll over your feet. Sip on a rum and Coke from your cottage’s stocked minibar. At an oceanfront table lit by candles, dine on grilled strawberry red snapper in a tomato Creole sauce.

Any review of Cocos must start with the staff. They were like one large family that invited us into their family. This is a very quiet resort. No piped in music on the beach! As you start up the path to your room there is a sign that says ssssh. The food was wonderful. There is a very nice open lounge looking over the Caribbean, and multi layered dining areas with same view. Each night different musical groups play nice, quiet dinner music. All the room rooms are on a cliff side with views over the Caribbean. It is a fairly steep walk to your room, so be sure you can handle it. There are two wonderful beaches, one on each side of the cliff. There are bars at each beach, and staff that makes rounds if you need drinks. They also bring around snacks that have been cooked. The guests we had drinks with before dinner, and later spoke with on the beach were a delightful group. This vacation was perfect for us. Definitely will go back.

We traveled here to have a nice long weekend getaway and it was perfect. The water is amazing and the staff were so great. What made the room and hotel perfect were the rooms that overlooked the water with the balcony and the outdoor shower. Every night we had amazing sunsets. The only downside is the walk to get to each room. You will do some incline walking because its on a hill. We were very aware this was going to happen and accepted it because the view was worth it. You can see form our pictures. The food was very good and they even accommodated us on the beach for a private dinner I set up for the two of us. The outdoor shower is really nice and the resort makes you feel like you are on your own private island with the beach and rooms. The outdoor shower has two rainfall shower heads. We would stand there just starring out onto the ocean while you showered. Then we would sit on the hammock on your balcony and just relax. There is only one Hammock, but two lounge chairs. Overall, perfect couples getaway. Probably not the best for kids.

The staff at this hotel were all outstanding. The beaches are lovely. One has a very steep slope into the step 3 I was in over my head. Some reviewers have complained about insects. We were given spray cans of both Raid and Off. We had no need of either. The bed came with a canopy of mosquito netting. We never used it. Our cottage was up on the hill which gave us great views but meant that we did develop calf muscle over the week. Ask for a lower altitude cabin if you aren't keen to climb a lot! Food was excellent quality, plentiful and truly varied. The grounds are beautiful and flowers in February were everywhere. The resort has cats which are very well behaved. Staff didn't seem to mind patrons feeding them. We had two complaints. The first is not one the hotel has any control over, and that is its proximity to a loud bar along the bay that pounds out the music often until 1:00 am. It made sleep difficult. Our second complaint is that there was no place in the room to read in the evening, no reading lamp and no comfortable chairs. Another reviewer complained about the beds. We found ours to be excellent, neither too hard nor too soft..rather Goldilocks!

Stunning wood houses on the side of a hill, just on sea front. Very happy staffers with nice restaurant and two bars. Two beach to choose every days, both with hotel amenities. I really enjoyed my stay here!

Me and my husband have just returned from an incredible 2 week stay at Cocos. We wanted a small friendly relaxing hotel as opposed to a big run of the mill hotel. Cocos went above and beyond our expectations and is a truly magical place. We were greeted by a rum punch and checked in super quickly. From walking through the grounds to our cottage we were instantly amazed. Cocos feels like a tropical island paradise. We stayed in premium cottage number 27 and the views were out of this world. The room was so spacious with a huge bed. The hammock on the balcony is just fantastic and the outside shower is perfection. Every morning around 8 birds greeted me for biscuits. The hotel grounds are so lush and tropical and the sound of the waves and frogs just add to the carribean feel. The two beaches are very good. The jolly beach side has sand so soft like velvet. The church valley beach was our favourite as it was a tad quieter. Both beaches have a bar and you can sit back and relax whilst you are offered cocktails throughout the day. Stephen at the Valley Church side was so friendly and attentive! All staff were incredibly friendly and got to know you personally and went out of their way to make your stay personal and enjoyable. We had fun dancing on several nights and at the beach party on Thursday. The food was fantastic. We stayed at a 5 star resort in the Maldives and the food at Cocos totally blew the Maldives out of the water. Every meal was delicious and the menu at dinner always changed. The service is fantastic and our wine glass was never empty! You will not be disappointed if you book Cocos. We met several guests who have been coming for years and we are already planning our return next year. If you want a personal relaxing time and carribean charm book Cocos! Thank you to everyone who made our stay so great. We will be back.
