Cocos Hotel in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda
Owned by native Antiguans, the 30 cottages at Cocos Hotel roost on a cliff and overlook iridescently clear waters, where deep blues and minty greens shimmer in streaks on the horizon. The best way to enjoy the view is swinging in a hammock suspended from the roof of each cottage’s rustic terrace, or drifting to sleep on the netting-enveloped princess bed. Chef Pam Clay's West Indian take on Tuscan cuisine attracts a local following.
Journey by boat to Cade's Reef to snorkel among manta rays, spiny lobsters and neon-colored tropical fish. Return to a lounge chair on a secluded beach and let the tide roll over your feet. Sip on a rum and Coke from your cottage’s stocked minibar. At an oceanfront table lit by candles, dine on grilled strawberry red snapper in a tomato Creole sauce.

Reviews for Cocos Hotel
I'll get the negatives out the way first as there was hardly any, anyway. The food service can be very slow and at breakfast, often ran out of tomatoes and hash browns. At lunch it was caesar salad which ran out a lot. However, on the day we did manage to order it, there was an additional guest in my husband’s salad (a caterpillar!) Needless to say, we didn’t worry about that being unavailable for the days after that. There were also a few mix ups with dinner and orders going wrong. On the dinner menu, there was mainly only pasta for vegetarians. However, the waitress noticed I was only ordering pasta on the third day and I explained that I am a vegetarian and she said I should have mentioned this as the chef cooks especially for vegetarians! I didn’t know this so make sure you let them know on the first night if you are a fellow veggie as the chef’s special dishes for us are AMAZING. I had the best veggie curry ever on one of the nights. The entertainment is brilliant, especially the band which was on a Wednesday – the lady was great and got everyone up dancing. The beach party was a really fun experience too which shouldn’t be missed, even if you just go for one drink. The views really are something else, it was honestly so much better than I imagined. The cottage (cottage 2) had so much space in the bedroom and the toilet and balcony too and the bed was HUGE. The outdoor showers we unreal! We read some reviews about hot water running out, but we never once had an issue with water – although it was quite funny trying to get the right temp for both of us (as there are two showers). I really cannot describe how beautiful the views were and the photos will not do them justice. I remember the feeling I got when I first walked out onto our balcony, it literally took my breath away. The beach is stunning, and you have them each side of the hotel. You will get people coming around to sell jet ski’s etc but if you say no, they leave you alone straight away. However, we did go in a jet ski one day and it was amazing! We got them down to 100ECD for 30 mins and it was so much fun. We also went on the Speed Boat Tour around the Island which included swimming with sting rays – incredible experience!! The staff in the hotel were so friendly and just wanted to make sure you had the best time. The atmosphere is completely relaxed, and it made us relax into the Caribbean life pretty fast which is why we are so sad to be home already! Oh just a little note to people booking the plunge pool rooms, we heard that if you're higher up you can see down into the other cottages plunge pools (so keep you suits on people! Haha!) Overall, it really was amazing, and we would recommend Cocos to anyone.

Cocos Hotel was simply perfect! The location is absolutely stunning, and offers a great view of Jolly Beach and the bay. Both beaches are beautiful and well kept, and the same applies for the cottages. Ours was quite low level on the hill, offering a spectacular view on the sunset from the balcony. Very looked after, we were provided everyday of beverages and snacks, clean towels etc. And those showers outside are just magical!!! Everyone at Cocos is friendly and absolutely lovely, willing to help make your stay the best one possible. Restaurant offers beautiful food with nice choice of appetisers, entrees and desserts! I absolutely loved every bit of this stay, and looking forward to coming back !!
We stayed at Cocos for two weeks in November. We had an amazing cottage at the top of the hill with fantastic views of the sunset and the sea. We were visited every day by beautiful birds and lizards ..the birds would tap on the windows to wake us up for a biscuit..what a treat. All the staff at the resort are great, from the wonderful people who clean the cottages every day, the waiting staff, the cooks, and the beach bar attendants , everyone stops to talk to you, they are genuinely interested in your views and want to make sure you have a great time . The food is cooked to order and you can have anything ..they are happy to get you exactly what you fancy. The drinks are top quality , top brands, and the cocktails are wonderful. The sea is turquoise , warm and inviting, the beach is white sand and shells. We had such a long relaxing holiday..it just went on and on. Totally chilled. If you want a laid back holiday where your every wish is catered for this is the place to come. Thank you to all at Cocos.. and a special thank you to Lucinda ..my dancing partner ...

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks stay at Cocos. Our room was at the top of the resort - we knew in advance it would be quite a climb, it was but we stopped and caught our breath and it was worth it for the stunning view from our cottage. All cottages will have great views but ours (cottage 28) faced Jolly's Beach and the hills in front. Sitting on our balcony, watching the numerous birds and lizards was a highlight. If you want to see the sunset and don't have sunset cottage it is easy to access the other beach and watch it from there. Our cottage was perfect, with great housekeeping, stocked mini bar (refilled daily) and outdoor shower that felt great when looking up at the moon and stars. There are 2 beaches and 2 beach bars. We preferred the 'main' beach next to the pool as the sand was fine and soft and the beach bar excellent - especially Akil who had such a great personality and would visit loungers to take drinks orders (he is an asset to Cocos). The other beach had a few loungers, beach bar (we didn't use) and is ideal for watching sun set; however the sand is not fine and quite coarse with tiny broken shells. The sea is an amazing colour, warm and gentle. A few fish were visible but water cloudy due to sandy nature of beach so not suitable for snorkeling. Wonderful to cool off in and chat away to other guests. Few vendors approach daily but a polite no thank you and they leave you alone. The jet skis, available to hire from the beach, were an exhilarating experience. The staff at Cocos are very friendly; from the warm reception upon arrival to the sad farewell at departure. Special thanks to Anisha, Shereen, Loreen, Tiffany, Stephen and Akil for your special attention. Security and management too were always friendly, everyone is at Cocos! All food is cooked to order and choice is ample. Your glass will never be empty. Certain foods sometimes ran out if you dined later, which was unfortunate a couple of times. We'll miss dining over the sea, with it lapping away gently below. We loved Cocos for its peace and quite, no tv, the sounds and sights of the wildlife, friendly staff and other guests and glorious setting. It is a very special place and we feel privileged to have stayed here. Thank you x

We enjoyed our room except there was not a way to close the bathroom window. There was only a screen and wood shutter that you cannot adjust so the cool ac would escape. This is the way the cottages were built. There was a gap between our French doors leading to the balcony so mosquitoes were getting in. Our mosquito net on our bed was torn, had holes and had a pen mark on it. The iron was missing and it took two days to get one. The wifi hot spot device was not in the room so we had to ask for one. We found a bloody napkin in our dresser the first day. Most likely it was left there by the previous guests. Other than that, the room was cozy. There was a pressure washer, two window screens and a light bulb left on the ground by the cottage next to us. The pressure washer finally was removed after four days (no one ever used it). The light bulb and screens remained there the entire week. That same cottage had wine classes and soda cans removed from the room after the housekeeper cleaned it. Those laid on the ground for two days. I promise I am not making this up. There were straws, bottle caps and other trash items on the ground throughout the entire property. I found myself picking up some of it. What I did not pick up stayed there the entire week. The cushions on the beach lounge chairs had huge rips on both sides so you could see the foam. I could not believe it! More chairs were needed at the pool. There were only four. The couples massage was very relaxing and the staff at Cocos were friendly. The food was very good as well. They have a very unique hotel: rustic cottages on a mountain over-looking the ocean but they missed the mark with all of the other issues that are simple fixes. Too bad. Many other guests we spoke to were very unhappy about there experience as well. I don't think anyone we spoke to would return, including us.
