Owned by native Antiguans, the 30 cottages at Cocos Hotel roost on a cliff and overlook iridescently clear waters, where deep blues and minty greens shimmer in streaks on the horizon. The best way to enjoy the view is swinging in a hammock suspended from the roof of each cottage’s rustic terrace, or drifting to sleep on the netting-enveloped princess bed. Chef Pam Clay's West Indian take on Tuscan cuisine attracts a local following.

It’s the little things that niggle. I wanted to give 3.5 stars but this is not possible. Cocos Antigua is a beautiful property with a delightful rustic concept that we really like. However, it misses the mark when it comes to some important details and it would appear that there are management issues here. The food is all a la carte and flavoursome with a good choice and mains are served on hot plates. There is a change of menu each day and includes a strip loin steak, curries, pork and chicken, as well as of course fish. Our room was a sunset pool room and was well equipped with twin sinks, outside his and hers showers a large deck and plunge pool. The bed was really comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. The deck has a sun umbrella, but after 3pm you get no respite from the sun here, so get in the pool to watch the amazing sunsets. We were surprised that there is no paperwork in the room at all. No dining times, resort maps or other helpful information. I don’t think I have ever stayed in a hotel that has zero information in the room. When we arrived, we were verbally told the information about meal times but that’s it. There are no phones in the room and all comms are to be made on WhatsApp. Although we don’t generally use room service, we were informed that it was a service they offered, but there is a $20 USD charge for delivery. This seems odd, either do it or don’t. Again, no menus in the room anyway. We were in the top rated room, but were shown to our room the “best way” via the service road which we walked several times a day. Surely there must be a better route than past staff rest rooms and building yard? If there was, we didn’t find it and weren’t offered it. When we were there, late November, there was no pool available due to “planned maintenance” and we were told that they hoped to have it available before we left. It turned out that the “works” were to strip the 20 year old decking and replace it, but we were eventually told it was unlikely to be finished before Christmas. Having no pool here means no day beds, restricted afternoon shade and around 20 bed spaces gone. The beaches are small but beautiful. However the sun shades are tired and worn and look unloved, however they do the job as long as you watch your head. Following feedback, management had some broken steps repaired and are starting to repair and paint the sunshades. Next, please clear the litter from the back of the beach. The resort say that this is not a place to be if you want to be on your devices and “connected”. However, walk around any corner or go to reception or a bar, and all the staff are always head down and on their phones. We were told that insulated bottles were provided in the rooms, but we couldn’t find ours. When we went to reception we were told they had run out. The staff are mainly friendly, but not well motivated, which is a shame. That said, Shelly-Ann, Mario and Craigg are the exceptions. Beach drinks service is very hit and miss, we were offered it one day on the Jolly Beach side and were told it should always be available, so do ask. Managers are rarely seen and when they are, they don’t readily engage with guests. If they did, and asked how the vacation was, they would learn a lot. When we approached Kris the duty manager he listened and did what he could. We did make all our concerns known and to be fair, one or two were addressed, but it runs deeper than a comment or two to management, they need to see it for themselves in order to get the details right. It’s a lovely resort and has the potential to be really excellent, but I fear not with the current management structure that seems to be crying out for supervisors below managers to be eyes and ears.

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go! Your own private cottage with great views, great staff and plenty of amenities! Would definitely stay here again!

We just returned from our honeymoon at Coco's resort, and it was a dream. For one, every single staff member we interacted with was SO kind and accommodating. The views and beaches were stunning - blue waters, private, peaceful. Only a few vendors that would walk by, but were very polite. The food was delicious - truly some of the best food we've had at a resort/hotel. The drinks were great as well. We had the Sunset Pool cottage and it was so beautiful and nice to have our own private pool. Yes there are mosquitoes, yes there are some hills - are very manageable and worth it. It was a very, very quiet and peaceful place. Eveything was rustic, clean, felt very safe. Only about 30-40 minutes max from the airport. I highly recommend!

I am keeping this review short as it has already been written about many times. We had a great time here in a Sunset View Cottage - wow the view. In fact, anywhere had a great view of the lovely white sand and aqua seas. Food - we didn’t repeat a single dish due to the rotating menu and daily specials at each meal. Staff - so friendly and efficient too. Kris allowed us to keep our room on the last day until 4pm as we had a late flight. Very kind. We appreciated it very much. Only one small thing; only one afternoon although a couples hotel, there was a family group from the US. Was like Spring break at the beach bar on Valley Church Beach. We decided not to have our cocktail there on this particular afternoon. Overall a fantastic stay in the best location we ever have had. Also, they have a WhatsApp set up so if you need anything, eg. Bath robe or fridge not restocked, this is very convenient and swift to have these things done. We had 2 showers in our room and mentioned to Kris that 1 wasn’t working - we weren’t worried but thought we’d let him know for future guests. It was fixed before we can back in the afternoon! Always ask, you will get a response.

Stayed here for a week with my Husband. Stunning scenery. Lovely food, great staff, strong drinks!! Very steep, built into the hillside so bring flat shoes. Water fountains all over the resort so bring reusable bottles, cups are available though. Some building work going on just upgrades around the resort but there was a fair amount of rubbish in the greenery which didn’t look recent, could do with tidying up. Beach vendors on Valley Church beach pester at first but aren’t persistent, beaches both sides are public. There are no private beaches on Antigua. Only main bar open in the evening, not sure if this was because it was just out of season, be nice for one of the beach bars to be open with different music for a change of scene. Nothing to walk to in the local area, we thought the harbour would have bars and restaurants but it’s mainly closed. Overall we loved it and would highly recommend it for a completely chilled Caribbean vibe with a touch of luxury.
