Cocos Hotel in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda
Owned by native Antiguans, the 30 cottages at Cocos Hotel roost on a cliff and overlook iridescently clear waters, where deep blues and minty greens shimmer in streaks on the horizon. The best way to enjoy the view is swinging in a hammock suspended from the roof of each cottage’s rustic terrace, or drifting to sleep on the netting-enveloped princess bed. Chef Pam Clay's West Indian take on Tuscan cuisine attracts a local following.
Journey by boat to Cade's Reef to snorkel among manta rays, spiny lobsters and neon-colored tropical fish. Return to a lounge chair on a secluded beach and let the tide roll over your feet. Sip on a rum and Coke from your cottage’s stocked minibar. At an oceanfront table lit by candles, dine on grilled strawberry red snapper in a tomato Creole sauce.

Reviews for Cocos Hotel
My girlfriend and I returned from Cocos a few days ago and couldn't have been sadder to leave...Cocos, in simplest terms, is paradise. From the second you make your way past the entrance hut, you're not only greeted with views usually reserved for postcards, but also with some of the nicest staff you've ever come across. The ala carte menu offers you a variety of American and Carribean cuisine, ensuring you'll have the opportunity to either sample some local cuisine like an Antiguan breakfast scramble or savor an old faithful like a Turkey Club sandwich. The dining service at Cocos is mostly fantastic, with only a few employees not matching the hospitality that the majority of the staff projects. If you are coming from a major city where the life's pace is breakneck, be prepared the slow yourself down - especially when it comes to dining. Unlike metropolitan restaurants, Cocos is in no rush to push you out to open a table for the next customer - they space the courses out and allow you to relax and take in the views (and entertainment, when applicable). For some, this might be frustrating - but trust me, enjoy the pace while you can. Their drink selection is only bested by the best resort bartender I've ever come across. Akil, manning the beach bar, brought an enthusiasm and energy that ignited the beach and was noticeably missed on his off days. With little direction, he served up delicious Carribean concoctions that really hammered home the vacation vibes. For those who are a bit more reserved, Wadadli is a fantastic Heineken-like Antiguan brewed beer that you'll become VERY familiar with. While on the beach, you're treated to rest & relaxation with minimal annoyance from vendors. They'll pass by early in the day to ask if you're interested - but only do so once and will not pester after a simple "No thanks, not today." The jetski is a must if you want to explore the surrounding areas, take in an amazing horizon view, and pump up your adrenaline. The water itself is magnificent. The salt level in the water is higher than what you might be used to, lending itself to incredible buoyancy. Floating around with a drink in hand is one of the more relaxing experiences that Cocos has to offer. The room is gorgeous. Upon arrival, the bed will have rose pedals strewn across it, a welcome sight for any traveling couple. The Sunset Cottage personal deck provides breathtaking views. As some have noted in their reviews, yes, this resort does have a "rustic chic" feel. If you're looking for marble countertops and a shower with multiple settings, Cocos probably isn't the place for you. But if you're willing to trade those things in for an authentic Carribean experience and an outdoor shower overlooking the sea, you'll love it. The one thing we will note, however, is that the mattresses could have been a bit more comfy - they are standard spring mattresses & we did miss our pillow-top at home! The cherry on top of the entire trip was Shirley Heights. Drinks, views, food, and the Halcyon Steel Orchestra helped this place to live up to every expectation we had and more. Cocos provides an affordable shuttle from the hotel that will allow you to dance & drink overlooking the island without any worries about getting safely back to the resort. All in all, our experience at Cocos was close to perfect. A few tips we'd offer up for prospective visitors: -Bring bug spray & SPF-50: we covered ourselves in both each day before heading out and barely experienced any issues with the sun or mosquitoes. -Get a couples massage: it was amazing. Very relaxing. -Be ready for some exercise: the resort, while small, is built into the hill, so there is some elevated walking required - a welcome "burn" after downing Akil's amazing & sugary bar concoctions! The only tip I'd offer up for the staff of Cocos would be to considering opening the beach bar after dinner & playing some music. While this resort isn't meant for those looking to party, my girlfriend and I loved dancing on the beach the one night you opened the bar and had a DJ - it was the perfect way to end the day! Bottom-line: if you are looking for a small, quaint, authentically Caribbean romantic getaway, Cocos is the place for you.
We had our honey moon here 10 years ago & loved the place so much decided to come back and renew our vows here. We flew out days after the hurricane but apart from some minor damage and clearing up of seaweed on beach it was pretty much perfect. This place really is special, it is 'weather worn' but that adds to the charm, we were greeted at the lower hut and had our bags taken to our room & a cool drink provided. The food is amazing, loved the jar of fresh made cookie or macaroons left for you to help yourself in the seating area, a lovely touch we never went hungry! also loved the pot of hot chocolate spiced with cinnamon ordered late one night, I felt nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are rustic, yes the mosquito nets have a few holes in but the open shower was charming and touches such as crisps, nuts and biscuits replenished each day was thoughtful. There was even umbrellas in the room for the occasion shower to keep you dry getting to the restaurant! I was worried at first as the wedding package showed no pictures of when my flowers or cake would look like but I really shouldn't have worried. I chose the colour of my bouquet and it was stunning, the cake was huge!! and delicious & the wedding planner went through options where to hold the ceremony & what would happen. Special thank you to the lady in reception ( apologies I am awful with names) who helped me into my dress ( after 3 days eating the amazing food I needed help!!!), took photos and walked down with me, you were so kind & the photos were perfect. It was a special day. We each had a free massage which was amazing, if you don't have one free book one it was so relaxing! I love this place and can't wait to return.

My husband and I recently honeymooned here in October. From the moment we got out of our taxi at the resort, we were greeted by Jennifer's smiling face and the welcomes continued as we made our way through the resort. All the staff here were always so kind and friendly and they remembered EVERYONE'S names and faces. We stayed in one of the plunge pool rooms and the view was out of this world - turquoise waters as far as we could see! The private beach area was also full of cozy lounge chairs and umbrellas, and had a fully stocked beach bar with fun, friendly staff. The meals were all excellent and perfect portion sizes, and the staff could make pretty much any drink you asked for. We could not be happier with our choice of Cocos for our honeymoon. It was a wonderfully relaxing time with staff that made it that much better!
What can I say about Cocos? My husband and I came for our honeymoon directly after the devastating hurricane. Everything was clean and gorgeous. The staff became like family. When we would come down for meals, they would greet us by name and be interested in who we were. If you want a wild time, see Akill at the beach bar and ask for a superman's curse! The food was unbelievable. Please note that if you want a generic hotel like Sandals, Coco's is not for you. This hotel is for the person who wants to experience the Caribbean culture and lifestyle. I am so grateful that we went to this place and now I cannot wait to go back! We honestly were sad when we left....felt like we were leaving dear family. Miss you guys!
Checked off a bucket list spot! We couldn’t have found a more romantic place. Just our style. Nothing pretentious! So layed back! Food was great! Staff was so accommodating! Only downside was the trip was too short (5 days)! Can’t wait to return someday Won’t wait 25 years 😊
