Reviews for The Inn at English Harbour

Paradise it is....we'll be back!

My wife and I have just returned from 9 nights half board at The Inn, staying in a garden junior suite. Our first time to Antigua but I am sure it will not be our last. The staff are so friendly from the point of arrival until you leave, and its 5 star service but in a relaxed and informal style that puts you at ease. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, with plentiful choice at breakfast and high quality evening meals. We often enjoyed the catch of the day ranging from Mahi Mahi, Wahoo to Red Snapper, all fish sourced fresh that day from the head chef's Antonios contact😉. A menu change each Friday occurs to give plentiful choice. I would recommend half board as we often skipped lunch as was always full. You have to remember this is a 5 star hotel with 5 star quality and costs. Drinks are well priced though, cocktails $10 US and wine well priced. You are given access to free drinking water during the stay with reusable bottles and full tea making facilities in room. A complimentary english afternoon tea was provided at 4pm each day, cakes, sandwiches and savouries. We enjoyed this on 2/3 occasions when choosing not to have lunch as you can only eat so much! From talking to residents who have stayed at various other resorts and from our own experience, this is the place to be in Antigua. Not only is the resort well positioned with calm seas for swimming and snorkelling (some beaches on the west get closed in high winds due to rough seas) you have easy access to Nelsons Dockyard, Pidgeon Point Beach, with access to various places for lunch or evening meal options. There are also several trail walks / runs up to Shirley Heights. The trails were ideal for me as a keen runner, so if trail walking is your thing, this would give you a good daily walk. It is lumpy but can also be in the shade of the trees, but stunning views. With only 29 rooms getting a lounger around the pool is never a problem, nor on the private beach. A very relaxing place despite the loud music on Sunday and Thursday from the Shirley Heights BBQ's that you can hear, but a small compromise for its positive location for everything else. We were told other resorts are somewhat isolated and you become beholden to the often larger resort. All staff were excellent. I won't mention names as they are all so good and they all genuinely get to know you as a guest. We stayed during race week and enjoyed watching the sail boats pass the resort every day whilst we sat reading our books. There are also some great viewing points from trails up to Shirley Heights also. We will certainly be returning.

Almost Perfect.

We stayed at The Inn for 10 nights (with several other couples) whilst competing in Antigua Race week and had a very good experience. The staff were so friendly and helpful. In particular Mirium, Stacey, Wesley, and Vere the boatman. The location is also magical and we stayed in one of the Beach Cabanas - where we woke up each morning to the gentle sound of the waves - just metres from the sea. All in all, the hotel is difficult to fault, and I really appreciated the heritage of the property, but there are a few areas where I think it needs to modernise: - Our bathroom was very basic and badly needed updating. Not even 4* let alone 5. - Our room lacked a desk to work at and a USB port. Pretty essential in this day and age. - The gift of a water bottle on arrival is a nice touch but they should also provide drinking water in the rooms free of charge and deliver ice daily. For me, The Calabash in Grenada is the best hotel in the Caribbean and The Inn gets remarkably close. In fact it is almost perfect.

True relaxation

Fabulous location and a delightful small hotel with great decor and fantastic staff. We stayed in a beach cabana which we loved being straight onto the beach. It was great to site on our patio especially at night. We will be back.

Best place in the world

Always a pleasure to stay at the Inn. The Staff are pleasant, friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and stylish . The beach and the view from the beach is spectacular. There is a free water shuttle into Nelson’s dockyard , where you can get into Falmouth and taxis are always available to go to local restaurants. One cannot wish for a nicer hotel in Antigua. Highly recommended.

Very nice place with some challenges

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is a top and bottom place- what I mean is that the reception and main restaurant are at the top of a steep hill and the beach, pool, breakfast/ lunch restaurant and rooms are at the bottom. This means that you will need to travel at times with the free shuttle- can be a pain at busy times. The good news is that taxis will pick up at the bottom if you are going out and there is limited parking at the bottom if, like us, you hired a car. The rooms are large (Junior Suite) with good bathrooms and powerful showers. They obviously have problems with mosquitos- definitely bring room spray, overnight repellents and personal repellent spray or you will be eaten! The other challenge is air management- the air con is above the bed- noisy with minimal speed control- fans also are either on fast or off. Breakfast is a joy- lovely outlook and high quality food with friendly service. The beach area is lovely- probably too dependant on palm tree shade, so could do with more umbrellas to create more consistent shade- the sun is strong of course! Pool is equally lovely- clean and well looked after. The gardens are also super. The location is great, close to English Harbour, with a boat shuttle during the day. All in all a good hotel and we had a lovely stay.
