We stayed there in March for 3 nights. Had access to one of the villas and a suite. it was high-end luxury, If you are prepared to spend the dough, this is great. The view was to kill for. One of the best for an island. We did jet skiing and other water sports. Everything was well managed. We even rented a car for the day. The car rental agency is at the hotel and it was a good experience all around. We peaked into the standalone rooms and noticed they were very small compared to some of the resorts here in the US. Food was good., We were vegetarians and had enough options. Breakfast was the highlight. Overall good stay.

We were informed that hotel had been renovated maybe some rooms have but ours not. Initially we had booked two superior rooms but they were very small and virtually no storage place for clothing, especially as this was our last stop on 3 week trip. However after much negotiation we got a 2 bedroom suite for an extra 125 dollars per night which is ok but considering the hotel is very low occupancy it would have been nice just to be given rooms with extra storage at no extra charge. Consider this in standard rooms there is very little place to put clothes. The suite we were given was nice even though old , it had a small kitchen good sized living room 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a dining area and lounge area . We had direct access to the beach but going back to the room there was only a large shell with some water to take off sand, totally inadequate. Room had a total lack of plugs you had to use a plug used for a lamp to charge a phone for example. Outside the room there was no outdoor lighting so you couldn't sit outside for a drink.the beach whilst nice had a steep entrance to the water (which was crystal clear) so anyone with mobility issues would really struggle, they had put out ropes out to help people get to the sun beds from the water. The beach on the first day was dirty ? It had rubbish and old cigarettes butts everywhere luckily my wife complained and thereafter Irvin who was great made sure beach was clean. Sun beds are those horrifying plastic bed with a mattress, at this price unacceptable. Food at beach bar good but and in particular Romel and Jocelyn stood out, Romel was extremely professional and amiable . However in evening there is a choice of a sophisticated restaurant or the worst bar menu I have ever seen. So either go out or be prepared for pseudo Michelin star cooking. Lastly in our room we had cobwebs so clearly housekeeping needs improving dramatically and they don't change sheets every day in fact only every three days unless you put a card on your bed and then they forget , totally unacceptable ! The conclusion is that it is too inconsistent and certainly not a five star resort, another hotel trading on history and reputation, we wouldn't return, having previously stayed at cap juluca we would give them a second chance, here not even though they some have some great staff but the issues make it difficult to believe it would improve, especially considering Saint Martin is not what it used to be

The sea is clearer than any swimming pool. What a spot! The water sports are really good. Still the best in St Maarten although the rooms need a bit of renovation and that the breakfast is not on par with the rest ( no fresh bread on a French island !).

Hi there, so our impressions of this hotel are mixed. I would agree that this is the finest hotel on the island. And.. if you are looking for a luxury stay you really have no choice, as this is really it. And that my friends, is where they have you. That being said, I would agree with various people that this resort is extremely expensive but not in fact a 5 star property. We stayed one night in two different rooms on our trip combining it with a St. Barths stay. We begin our journey. We clear customs in St. Martin and see a big sign with a driver for Belmond La Samanna. I say Wow. This is fantastic, they have someone all set up to take us to the hotel. 5 star service. I walked up to the sign holder and told her we were guests of the hotel checking in and she said "I don't se you on our list". And I said, well, we are checking in so there must be some mistake. Then she proceeds to tell me to take a cab because I didn't arrange it in advance and shuttle service was not complimentary. So off we go into a cab with a bad taste in our mouths right away. Might I add, the hotel never contacted us in advance offering to arrange this service or even letting us know about it. For our first room, we had a wonderful room with a large terrace, were greeted with a welcome drink and had a very nice dinner. There was a complimentary bottle of island rum in the room. Nice touch. Really can't say anything bad. Amenities and appearance of the room were as they should have for a high grade hotel. On the back end of our trip we had a different experience. We asked for late checkout, and that was granted, and for that, big thank you and thumbs up. That detail in and of itself should have made our experience complete. But other things of note were... our room was tiny and had a small balcony. The physical location of the room was indeed in a better location than the first time, so that was good. Room was clean. Shower head sprayed in multiple directions and needed service. Tub telephone shower leaked all over the bathroom. Complained at front desk for future guests. Must add, we were not extended a welcome drink at check in this visit. We used the gym this time. No attendant in the gym. Gym was OK but nothing special. Went to restroom in the gym and noted brooms and mops sitting out and a very rudimentay institutional shower. Noted a ladder sitting outside our bathroom window in our room. Noted open laundry facility across the street with golf cards carrying towels, people scurrying about. What I am trying to get at here is the operations of the hotel are in full view for the guest to see. In five star resorts, the operations are in no view of the guest. The guest should not be looking at ladders, brooms, mops, cleaning devices sitting about. Breakfast. Wonderful spread. You will spend a small fortune having breakfast at this hotel. And there is no a la carte menu options if you don't want the buffet. We asked our server. And if you want to walk somewhere to get breakfast, there are no other options either. I would have preferred to have that expense gone into the room and not make the guest feel taken. Beach. Beautiful beach. We walked down to it and claimed our lounge chair. No towels or attendant in sight. We waited 10 minutes for someone to come to us until I sent my husband on a hike to get towels. We got them, but never saw an attendant walk by once during the hour and a half we were on the lounge chair. So was my experience over the top 5 star unbelievable? No. Was it terrible, horrible, no. It was just OK. But not 5 star. I suppose if management said if there was anything they could have done to improve our stay we should have informed them. But at a 5 star property once again... the guest shouldn't be having to inform management of every single thing. It should already been thought of. A 5 star stay is flawless. Would we return? Maybe. Maybe if we get a good enough deal to make it worth it. Thanks for reading!

I really needed a relaxing getaway and St. Martin was very easy to get to from NYC. Friends had recommended La Samanna and it did not disappoint. I booked a suite with a plunge pool and it was perfect. The suite was big, centrally located and had two terraces - one covered and one open with my own plunge pool. If it wasn't for the great beach I would have stayed in my own little pool and enjoyed the view from my room. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, from the housekeepers, beach attendants, wait staff and concierges. The hotel was not too big, which kept everything very cozy and not feeling too overcrowded. The spa at the hotel is phenomenal with excellent treatments and very skilled staff. Also, the concierge staff was excellent. They were super friendly, knowledgable, and always helpful. I thought that the hotel was the best on the island and I would highly recommend it as a very relaxing and enjoyable getaway.
