Stayed a weekend at Belmont la Samanna, fantastic really. We made a reservation for a villa for the 2 of us, great view, very impeccable decorated and a peaceful surrounding. The resort is located close to the dividing line between French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten, this resort which used to be Orient Express brings an international-style to the island. Very recommendable.

While we were staying in one of the newer 4 bedroom villas, visiting the resort itself was always great. The location is breathtaking. The staff is friendly and professional in serving you. We loved the restaurants, especially lunch on the terrace.

This is by far the best place i have visited or seen in St Martin. Everything is just amazing, and the beach is absolutely wonderful with plenty of space and privacy. It is the ideal place to mix relaxing and having fun at the same time within a luxury setting all around.

The best location with the best comfort and design. This is simply Paradise on Earth. The Beach bar is the option for lunch and sunset time but, please: improve the service and change those plastic glasses and serve champagne on a "tulipe" glass, comme il faut!

We just arrived home from a Spring Break trip to Belmond La Samanna. We stayed in the villas(private homes) that were on top of the cliff. Positives as follows and negatives at the bottom: The villa was stunning 4 bedrooms with a pool and yard to run around. Iguanas would come running through the yard sunning themselves every day. The house was immaculately appointed but very livable. There were golf carts to transport us the easy 3-400 yard walk to the beach or main resort area. The gym was amazing and had tons of equipment, weights, etc..The tennis facility although we did not play, was equally well appointed and maintained. The spa treatments were awesome. The door was left partially cracked during massages so you can hear the outside tropical birds. The watersports area was great, and we participated in snorkeling(mediocre in terms of fish on the reef), innertubing, paddleboarding, etc..The color of the water was clear and with goggles you could see 25-30 feet to the bottom. The water in the bay is fairly calm making it great for swimming. The staff was great and very helpful and the hotel itself was great with a beautiful view of the bay. Special thanks to our hosts Stephens and Karine for all their help and also our housecleaning crew for cleaning up after us every day. The airport was only 15 minutes away which is very convenient, and is secured with a gate and 24 hour security, which was a bonus for privacy. Now for the negative-The only main negative I would say was pricing for the food, both at the beach bar and especially at Trellis the fine dining restaurant. The beach bar was good and a great setting just overpriced approx. 25-30% based on type and quality of fare. The fine dining at Trellis was mediocre at best on the food quality. We ate off premises at fine dining restaurants the other 3 nights and all 3 were better and way less priced. I had a fish special that was $70 US dollars at Trellis and the flavor was just okay and it was probably worth $35-40 at any other restaurant. Wine was 4-5 times a retail price instead of a normal 2-3 times at most restaurants. For instance a bottle of silver oak that would cost $90 retail and approx. $150 at a restaurant in the US was $500 at Trellis to give some comparison. The only other negative was the cost for the services by the hotel. I believe it was $130-130 for a hour on a jetski and we did a jetski tour through an offsite operator that was $150 for 2.5 hours and covered almost the entire island. To rent their boat for a half day was $1300 and felt like it should have been less than half for most other charter companies. All in all it was a great hotel and resort and would definitely stay there again, just probably wouldn't eat at Trellis again unless it was cheaper or they made a significant jump in food quality. Loved the Belmond!
