Booked an Ocean View Suite using a Virtuoso Booking agent. When we arrived we were "upgraded" to an Ocean Front Suite which was nice but it was the furthest building away from the main lobby/restaurant/bar/pool. The room rate also included breakfast and $100 to spend. The hotel is difficult to find if you rent a car. Make sure to get good directions as our phones plan was not supported on the island and therefore no mapping program was usable. The rum punch drink and cold towel upon checking in was a welcome touch. Room: The room was great, a true suite with 2 rooms. Sitting room with tv/dvd, and a small kitchen. That was awesome. It included dishes, utensils, and pots and pans, toaster, tea maker and an expresso machine. That allowed us to make coffee in the morning without having to walk all the way to the lobby which offered free coffee and tea in the morning. Also it allowed us to reheat our leftovers from the previous nights dinner for lunch. There is a grocery store not far from the resort in the Cupecoy Marina and we got snacks and cheese and crackers and drinks. The bed is super comfy and the TV works fine (although I have read that sometimes it does not work. The tv feed went out for us so we called the desk and they sent a tech and fixed it immediately). The bathroom is very large, with large tub and free standing shower. The one drawback is there is only room for one suitcase so we just emptied ours into the drawers and shelves and hang up areas. Restaurant: The breakfast which was included in our rate was excellent. Made to order omelets and eggs any way and pancakes and waffles plus a delicious buffet with beautiful pastries, fruit, juices and many hot items and bagels and lox, coffee and cappuccino. The wait staff is lovely. We did order lunch at the bar the day we arrived and the menu is limited. The drinks are $18 so don't be shocked. There is a gelato cart and the small scoops are $6. We did have dinner the first night in the restaurant and there were a few glitches. We were seated and then no one came to bring us water or bread for 15 minutes. While all around us were being waited on, we were being ignored. I finally had to get up and approach the dining manager and explained the situation to him. Then service arrived. If bottled water is your thing it is $10. However the tap water at the hotel is filtered and tastes better than my water at home. The food was nice. If possible get to the restaurant when the sun is setting. Beach: Excellent beach. Quite large with very soft sand. My husband walks every morning and could walk quite far. Some watersports are complimentary. There are 2 hobie sailboats,, stand-up paddleboards, snorkel equipment (there is some decent snorkeling right off the beach along the rocks and along the beach in the rocky areas) all complimentary and jet skis and other motorized sports for a fee. There is beach service. The first bottle of water with ice is complimentary. The hotel is on the French side of the island so be aware they do allow topless sunbathing. Grounds: Beach side is nice, but as you drive to your suite there is a lot of maintenance trucks and garbage receptacles that are visible. There are tennis courts but we did not use them. Spa/Gym: Did not use the spa but stopped into the gym and was told by a frequent gym user that it was one of the best hotel gyms they had ever seen. I did take a complimentary Pilates class and the class is limited to 2 persons. Make a reservation ahead of time. Also took a complimentary yoga class. 8 persons max and quite a good instructor. Pools: The main pool by the lobby was the perfect temperature and there is a nice breeze. That became my respite later in the week when the people who were in the next suite insisted upon never stopping talking while they were at their beach chairs. Gift shop: For those of you who like to shop you will be disappointed. With as upscale as this resort is the gift shop was lacking. I couldn't find anything to buy and that is nearly impossible. Wrap-up: All in all a lovely resort. Do rent a car or you will feel captive. There are several wonderful restaurants on the island. Do take advantage of them. See my restaurant reviews. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to others.

I am very partial to st barths but la samanna is beautiful. we had a beach front suite so we were able to walk out to the beach everyday. the staff is wonderful, the food very good. The beach is really beautiful, its long and no one else really is on it except for the hotel. As another reviewer states...has it all!

Second time to St Martin. Our favorite island in the Caribbean. Has everything we want in one relatively small island. La Samanna is the cream of the crop. No need to research or compare to other hotels. The location itself is on a beautiful private beach right at you back door. The service is impeccable and the food some of the best on the island. We prefer the French side of the island and have rented a car both trips so we could explore without constraints of hiring transportation. The beaches on the French side have great people watching and good beach food at the busier ones. Very laid back and relaxing place but you can spice it up as much as you want.

The hotel is beautiful and service was great. We went for a friends wedding and had a fantastic time. All the rooms face the ocean so it could not be a more fantastic view. If you try to leave the resort a taxi ride will cost you 60 bucks round trip so you are kind of stuck in the resort unless you rent a car which we heard from friends was with the price if you wish to explore the island. They have a nice beach area with lounge chairs and service throughout the day. We did not eat at the restaurant on site but heard the food was ok. We did do room service which was good and the buffet in the morning is rather extensive and is included in the room stay. All in all a great spot.

Food, drink, service, service, service! This place has it all, and you can have it all. Came here for a long weekend. Will definitely stay here again! Call ahead to book a beach lounger, because without a res you may not get a spot.
