Carlisle Bay in Saint Mary, Antigua and Barbuda

Carlisle Bay Resort’s take on a Caribbean retreat is decidedly sophisticated, where plantation shutters highlight modern décor in a muted color palette of sage, gray and white. The ambiance is discreet enough for royalty – count Camilla Parker Bowles among recent guests – and a haven for exploration via sailboat or yacht. Three nearby Royal Yachting Association courses offer a prime opportunity to strengthen your captaining skills, and an endless network of coves and lagoons invites lazy afternoons of champagne cruises.

Beautiful room, lovely beach, both well looked after as befits a 5 star establishment. The rest was a complete disappointment, The catering was not up to standard and we felt the service was not professional, though mostly well meaning and we were left feeling that we had overpaid for this part of our stay.

Ten family members - 4 couples and children: we have just returned from 2 wonderful weeks in Antigua staying at Carlisle Bay. Everything was excellent: this hotel has a most enviable position on a small cove between the capital and historic dockyard 'English Harbour' and just half an hour from the airport. Accommodation worked very well with our ground floor verandah being the focus for morning coffee/pina colada lunch/afternoon tea right onto the beach and the sea. Babies made friends and loved the crèche. Twice we had baby sitters so we adults could enjoy evenings together off site. The hotel recommended several outside activities and dining places all of which were excellent and of course eating on site at Indigo/East was good too. Breakfast was amazing. Tennis and Water sports - especially hobi cats were enormous fun. It was a huge success.

As near to paradise as you can get. My first visit, and my wife's second. I can see why she has been wanting to come back for so long! The location is near perfect, you are cocooned within the bay itself with its beautiful views wherever you look. The staff are all fantastic and so friendly, you feel welcome and relaxed from the moment you arrive and the hotel team help you unwind and settle in. All of the eating venues are of a fantastic quality and the theme of great service continues from the restaurant teams, they are friendly and informative and always on hand to offer a recommendation from the extensive Menus, Michael the Sommelier is fantastic and really informative at every price point and the house wines are all perfectly picked. On the beach as soon as you settle into one of the many comfy loungers, a team member has dropped a thermos cooler with iced water for you and the water sports team are friendly and informative. Jerome or Vaughan will bring you afternoon tea on the beach and there is definitely something to be said for eating scones and sipping English Breakfast tea from a china cup while staring out to sea. There is a good range of water sports equipment, I took a one off lesson to use the Hobie Cats (this allows you to book them out as much as you want) and thought it was great value. There are also SUP's and kayaks to use as well as snorkelling equipment, so plenty to keep me entertained. The management team are very hands on, often stopping for a chat and to check that you have all you need. The rooms are huge and well thought out. Nothing is too much trouble for the team at Carlisle Bay, and I will be returning as soon as possible.

I felt compelled to write a review of our 5 night stay in Carlisle Bay. The staff here are the real winners. Marvin in water sports, Michael the F&B manager, Jerome on the beach, Winston the bell man, Marlon at the Jetty, everyone went out of their way to make sure we had the best time possible. This is a luxury beach resort and they do a great job. The food was very good and I am very picky when it comes to dining out. It does become expensive with the extra surcharges and fees but that is to be expected at a resort like this. Most rates should include free breakfast so that does help. The staff also encourages you to leave the resort in their private taxi van. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Beach is very nice and if you are adventurous you can take a 5 min walk to another smaller beach that was great for beach combing. But lots to see snorkeling in the bay right in front of the resort We hope to come back many times in the future.

Well... I don't often review. My husband and I travel significantly with both business and pleasure. We have stayed in the best of the best worldwide. We are here on day 3 a just get away from it all don't care where trip / celebration but we hit jackpot! If you are considering this hotel stop and book! We spend a lot of time in Barbados and Bermuda and frequent many Caribbean islands. Antigua is a first for us. Although we are still discovering the island it is beautiful. However this hotel ranks at the top. From the first greeting to the suites, the stunning bay, you will not be disappointed. What we love is the small but all important touches. Often you pay for a top hotel and feel aggrieved they can't extend to a simple bottle of water in the room or on the beach without charging a fortune, you pay premium to stay somewhere get there and nothing is included.... Not here - complimentary in room non alcoholic drinks and snacks, fruit and frozen ices on the beach, ice bucket with waters delivered at you bed at 10am, complimentary breakfast anywhere you like (no room charge and no restrictions!) the list goes on. This place is unique in that it allows couples and families to enjoy without either feeling awkward or crossing paths. The hotel keeps the bay discreetly separated. Many hotels could learn from the approach here... Those who say it's expensive for food and drink I would challenge in comparison to any establishment of this nature in the Caribbean it is as you would expect - I've paid more for much worse! If your a busy family, couple or individual and want to de-stress come here... the Owner and Manager have the perfect place for you all ready and waiting.
