I now know the definition of True Blue and it can be found in the waters that surround Sugar Ridge! Outstanding picturesque views, tremendous team of support, great beach options, beautiful pool options, wonderful food. There was not an aspect of this getaway that we did not thoroughly enjoy!

My husband and I had been here on a corporate trip and tacked on an extra day and a half to ourselves and chose Sugar Ridge. The only regret we had was that our entire trip was not at this location. We absolutely loved it it had exactly what you needed from the spa to the gym to the pool to food and beverage to proximity to other options and a wonderful beach. The staff was lovely top to bottom and we are actually looking forward to going back with her four-year-old son and enjoying ourselves there again soon!

We visited for three nights with our two children, ages 11 and 9, before a planned transfer to a second resort. The location is very pretty, and my husband and I enjoyed the smaller, quiet feel of the resort. We found the staff to be about 70% gracious and helpful, about 20% indifferent and hard to get their attention, and about 10% out-of-this-world wonderful. Overall, we thought the staff was quite good- from cleaning staff to serving staff. We knew full-well the resort was not on the beach so these next points are meant as a comment, not a criticism: The shuttle was pretty convenient, but overall we preferred our second resort where the resort was beach front. On days with rain showers, for example, it was just more convenient to make a run for it on foot than wait for the shuttle. Bathroom breaks, forgotten items, all those things were just more inconvenient with the distance. The beaches were really beautiful, though they were just rough enough when we were there that snorkeling with the kids wasn't easy. I was told Turners was the better of the two beaches for snorkeling, but it didn't work out well for us. The pool is very nice and relaxing. It's a pretty setting, and the pool bar was small but great (really hospitable service). The pool is a bit small, especially for families, and with the quiet atmosphere we felt compelled to shush the kids quite a bit. That said, we did see a few other children there. Staff made our kids feel right at home, but some of the guests did not seem happy having kids around. While I kind of understand, it made it harder for my husband and I to relax. The spa was a highlight. We had great massages. I'd recommend it. Food was solidly good, but not great. That said, it exceeded my expectations given some other reviews. As others have noted, food service was generally slow. Even when restaurants weren't full it was slow, so plan accordingly. I was glad we had two second-floor rooms. We were able to get one of the few (maybe only?) connecting room sets, which was nice with the kids. We had a king bed under the mosquito netting, like the classic photos you see on the website. The kids room also had a king bed, without the canopy or netting, but that was ok with us. The second-floor view was really beautiful, and some of the lower level rooms appeared to have no view at all. The first-floor plunge pools were probably nice, but from some comments I heard, several guests didn't really use their pool much anyway. A minor recommendation for the resort: add more towel bars or hooks, they are needed for more than towels (wet coats, swimsuits that need to dry, robes, etc.). Overall, we were happy with our experience, but if you're going to Antigua with kids, I would consider another location.
