Sugar ridge has just the right balance between professional service and friendliness. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Beautiful room with plunge pool, great breakfast and we had a good evening at Carmichaels restaurant. The shuttle to the beaches was also efficient and keen to fit in with our timings. It is close by and walkable to Jolly Harbour so also able to visit other restaurants and bars in the evenings.

We had a wonderful week. The staff were ALL so friendly and responsive. Had a great room with a large private balcony, super dining and pools. No on site beach but daily shuttles to nearby beaches. English Harbour is a must visit, and the market in St. Johns'. I have visited 12 islands in the west indies, and Antigua is the best.

We visited Sugar Ridge with 20 other friends and family. This was my first visit to Antigua, although I have travelled to other Caribbean Islands. So, what did we think.... POSITIVES... Carleen on the pool bar pretty much made out trip. She was an absolute treasure. Nothing was too much trouble, and she had a smile on her face all day everyday. Her cocktails were great, and she made us all feel like family. The room we had was near the bottom of the resort, with great views of the sea and the mountains. The room was clean and spacious, with a large bed. We also had a plunge pool on the balcony which was lovely. The food and service at Carmichael’s was brilliant. Thank god, because the lower restaurant near the pool was poor. All the staff were friendly. NEGATIVES... Other than Carleen on the pool bar, there is very little “atmosphere” in the rest of the Resort. It’s just a bit too lacking in life. Which is a shame, because it’s such a beautiful place. I booked in for a massage which cost US$120 (not cheap!) and despite saying I wanted medium pressure, it ended up feeling like a sports massage. It wasn’t good at all. The service at breakfast and the quality of food is just not good at all. 3 out of the 7 days, we waited more than an hour for our food. The air con in our room was not functioning properly and the room was either very hot or freezing cold. Overall, we made some great memories, but the resort could be so much better than it is. We would visit again; but we would not do the all inclusive as it’s just not worth it with the limited options on food.

We stayed at Sugar Ridge for a few nights in advance of our stay at another all inclusive on the island. This is a nice boutique hotel. Perfect for a short stay. We were there for 2 nights. Carmichael's Restaurant was not open either of these nights so we were unable to dine there. We did venture up there to see the view.....which was gorgeous. We had one dining option for every meal during our stay Not a spot for quiet or leisurely strolls. Our room faced the road and some sort of an industrial site. We were awakened both mornings by the sounds of jack hammers and loud vehicles. Check in was less than friendly as well. Some guests received cocktails, we weren't offered even water. Asked for bottled water and was told "there's some available in your room". Which is great...but we weren't shown to our room for another 15 minutes. Our interaction with the General Manager during the Manager's Reception was great. The staff was friendly and helpful overall.

To summarise briefly Having booked locally some time in advance Worst room in resort opposite building site with constant banging and men at work directly opposite balcony Worst table in Carmichael restaurant by the serving desk which had a marvellous view of a wall and wobbled when you tryed to cut your food Food. The worst we have had on the island I would never serve this quality of food at home ! Starter over cooked. Steak felt as if they had cooked in a water bath ? Dry tasteless , potatoes cold socked in oil , probably quickly reheated ? Couldn’t compline as no one came near our table ( wine delicious Stellenbosh ) A personal item was left under pillow in the room , on phoneing a couple of hours after departure to ask for the item to be put at reception for collection was told there was no item left in room !!?? By housekeeping. Asked to check again. 3 days later no contact. My only explanation is it has been taken ! For a total expenditure of some £ 500 would rather of given it to local dogs home Paws. Perhaps the manager is on Vacation !!
