Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

My wife and I visited Saint Petersburg to celebrate our wedding anniversary. On arriving at this beautiful hotel I knew I had earned some brownie points. The hotel itself is stunning, with opulent yet tasteful design and the staff could not have been any more accomodating. The hotel is well situated with many essential tourist sites within an easy walking distance and a convenient consierge service for anything that requires a little more travel. I can't recommend this place enough and will be sure to stay here again when we return to the city. Thank you for making our stay a wonderful and memorable one!

We've visited St Petersburg a few times and this is by far our favourite hotel. The location in second to none- just off the Nevsky Prospect and within easy walking distance of The Hermitage, Saviour on Spilled Blood Church etc. The cocktail bar has a pianist every evening and a great atmosphere. The hotel is old fashioned but that seems to add to its charm. There is a refurbishment project ongoing at the moment but that didn’t disrupt us. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking Nevsky Prospect. Service throughout the hotel is excellent. The breakfast buffet has excellent options. We’ve stayed at the Astoria previously and always visited the bar at the Grand Hotel Europe this time we decided to stay. Whilst the Astoria is a wonderful hotel the Grand Hotel Europe just has that little bit of extra charm and atmosphere. We can’t wait for our next stay.

The Belmond is a beautiful old hotel located near Nevsky Prospekt and Arts Square. The historic building is filled with treasures just waiting to be found by guests. There are several restaurants on site all with excellent food. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Service is excellent.

I stayed in a “superior” room with furnishings that were clearly at least 20-30 years old. I am allergic to dust and sneezed non stop. Excessively and unnecessarily expensive food and drink prices. Waste of money

We don't know where to start. The desk staff, concierges, wait staff, bar staff were all superb. The room was terrific with every amenity we like. The location is superb. We seldom eat is a hotel we are staying in but had 2 meals plus the extravagant breakfasts which were terrific. One evening we decided to drop into the eloquent, old style, warm, inviting bar to try their version of a Moscow Mule. As we got more and more comfortable, second Mules were in order. As we realized we were having one of the most wonderful, romantic evenings of our lives, dinner in the bar and the third Mules were a must.
