Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

We visited St Petersburg recently and managed to dine at Azia, one of the best restaurant in Grand Hotel Europe Starts from the entrance, you may feel modern design, cozy and welcoming atmosphere. As for the menu, we were impressed by few dishes, such as Crispy Eggplants, Black Pepper Beef and Indian Fish Curry, these are dishes you must try! Last but not least, we loved service team there, friendly and attentive service made us feel great! One of them (Oxana) managed to provide excellent care of us! Kudos to the team! Azia is a must visit restaurant!

Stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate WA. Thoroughly enjoyed the Tchaikovsky dinner on the Friday night more for the entertainment than dinner. The ballet, opera singers and quartet were fabulous. The buffet breakfast is extensive and well worth including it in your room rate. Enjoyed a superior room which was more than adequate. Staff very helpful and speak great English.

We stayed here for 2 nights and wished it was longer! It is within walking distance to the Church of Spilled Blood, shops and Museum. The hotel is beautiful and the service, particularly in the bar area, excellent. We ate at the Cafe on the Mezzanine floor and really enjoyed our meals. Breakfast is in the Le Europe Restaurant and it's not everyday you get to eat while listening to the beautiful sound of someone playing a piano! The room was a reasonable size with a small entry and over bath shower. The TV appeared at the base of your bed at the touch of a button. If I ever return to St Petersburg, I will definitely stay here!

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in for a while simply because the staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was wonderful and the rooms were excellent. Its excellently located to be able to walk to most of the sites and restaurants close by. We used their box at the Marinsky Theatre for the ballet which was beautiful. We will definitely recommend.

I cannot recommend the Belmond highly enough. There are so many things to see and do in Saint Petersburg that a secure, historic and elegant place to stay becomes very important at the end of a full and exhausting day. The staff was very engaging, courteous, and helpful. From the reception staff, the maid service, the buffet waitresses and waiters, to the concierge service - any question was quickly answered, and any need was met. We had stayed at the Belmond in the Spring of last year. For 2017, we stayed for 13 days in September-October. Since it was a longer stay, we upgraded the room, which was well worth the cost. (I am still not sure what some of the fruit was in the welcome basket....) It was like having a private apartment, it had a view overlooking Nevsky Prospect, and had enough room to make a two week stay seem like home instead of a rented bed. The breakfast buffet was again extraordinary, and the bar and lounge was a welcome stop after a night at the ballet. And of course everyone spoke better English than I spoke Russian. I will stay here again every time I visit Saint Petersburg. How could I resist?
