Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

Stayed there in May 2018. It is centrally located and walking distance to the main sites in the city. They have a very nice patio verandah where you can have a drink in the evening. They have also a good Asian restaurant that I recommend to try. Downside is the breakfast, the set up is like a big ballroom, you don't feel any privacy and it is a "mass -breakfast set". However, as the quality of the breakfast quality, rooms, service and the location I give them a 5 stars!

We spent 5 nights here, and enjoyed every moment. The rooms are large and well appointed, very comfortable, good A/C and heating. Bed very comfortable with excellent sleep quality. Bathrooms are large and well appointed. Free wifi, worked well. All staff were great, all had at least some English. Good central location for tourists. Highly recommended.

It is a great hotel with 140 years of charm but it is concerning to witness that the condition of the room are not expected of a Belmont property. Clearly, the rooms and it's facilities are aged with the deco being gloomy. I was assigned a room near the clock tower which was annoying. Although the rooms had double layer window panes, it could still not escape the quarterly chime from the clock tower which drove me insane especially going through jet lag. The breakfast room although appear to be have a wide variety of choices, the setting was actually in a mid size ballroom with ornate ceiling decors. The crepe is a MUST TRY. My other frustration was the getting to the the gym in the morning. It was like a maze trying to get there. Clearly a charming hotel and very accessible to the main streets of interests. I would stay here again but would hope that the management will consider giving the hotel rooms a fresh look.

I'm looking forward to finding a better Hotel, but it will be a long and arduous search. The building (inside and out) is magnificent, The attention to detail is amazing. The staff go well over 'the extra mile' to make sure your stay is trouble-free and beautifully memorable. I believe you could ask them to fix or find anything and they'll find a way to exceed your expectations.
