Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

Very elegant hotel in the hear of St. Petersburg. Many important sites within walking distance of the hotel including the Hermitage Museum within 15 minutes. The staff were very kind and helpful. It has an “Old European Charm”. Be very careful when walking around town. We caught a pick pocket stealing from my wife’s shoulder bag. Keep your valuable close to your chest and it’s best to keep it under a coat. This doesn’t take away from the beauty of the city or hotel. Our bed was very hard, but you can ask the front desk for a additional mattress to put on the bed,”Problem solved”. The food in the hotel was very good. Overall, An excellent experience.

Great place to stay when visiting St. Petersburg. Excellent location, rooms and service. Very helpful staff and very friendly. Would highly recommend the Belmond as I stay at their other global locations.

Belmond Grand Hotel St Petersburg We arrived via Sapsan Train from Moscow to St Petersburg early evening at the hotel. The lobby is quite small & we were checked in by the efficient front desk staff despite a number of guests from other tours checking in. This hotel was the accommodation included in our tour of Russia. (We did not have a choice) The Belmond has a good location but it is very touristy, ordinary and totally not luxurious at all despite us booking an 8-day luxury tour.(in fairness to the tour agency, the Moscow hotel we stayed in as part of the tour was luxurious enough, it was the St. Regis) The bathrooms here at the Belmond Grand are so so and did not feel clean. True enough, the counter top(Luckily I always take Lysol wipes with me) in the bathroom had somebody else's hair as I went to check it. Eeeks! horrific! The bath tub was soapy, discoloured, and slippery. It needs proper cleaning. Cleanliness is a bit of an issue. The bedroom though, was clean. Bed sheets and were towels changed daily. Except for the fresh floral centrepiece, you can forget about the carpet, decor, furniture & draperies in the hotel that were so tacky and so with the poor choice of tiles used in the bathroom. We were hoping for a more classy & elegant old world feel. We tried the lobby bar for a light dinner and the food was fine and the service was very attentive. We enjoyed listening to the entertainer with a very cool and suave voice. Breakfast at the Italian restaurant was always congested in the mornings from tour groups booked in the hotel and it is usually a hit or miss when you requested for coffee, tea & fresh juices. Although the waitresses are trying their best to cope with the high volume of guests. On one rainy day a cranky old guy was manning the entrance/concierge & he was refusing to give us umbrellas when we asked for one. It was not until our Russian guide intervened, and like magic, he produced not one but several umbrellas for us. The bellman who took care of our luggage at check in and checkout on the other hand was the total opposite. He was very courteous and helpful. The food at the hotel was fine and very reasonably priced. St. Petersburg is a very nice city to explore but I do not recommend and neither would we stay at this hotel again. Remember, there's a Four Seasons and a W Hotel in St. Petersburg

Excellent location in the heart of the city on Nevsky Prospelt within walking distance to many of the main sites. Grand decor throughout the hotel. One comment I would make is that we checked in late at night and were among a large group lined up then a couple arrived after us and demanded to be checked in immediately which the staff did offering them a glass of champagne, I was a little disappointed that they were fused over while we were made to feel like second rate guests. Our room was clean and comfortable if a little on the small size and extremely difficult to find, room signage needs improving. The breakfast room is a beautiful room reminisced of the past; sometime unable to cope with the crowd but the staff did everything to make it run smoothly. Breakfast itself was a very high quality with everything one might require.

The hotel is large but runs with great style/ The rooms are spacious and comfortable without being especially memorable. The staff are lovely and went the extra mile to help, forwarding a forgotten item by courier to our hotel in Moscow. The only complaint is that there are large tour groups staying and they do at times overwhelm the services particularly breakfast, and also stop a more intermit feel,We enjoyed the bar and also the Dinner in the main restaurant, good food and service all to a background of live music a nice treat. The one bug bear were the lifts slow for ever delayed and frustrating !! I was informed they are due to be replaced I do hope so. I would stay again and recommend it even with the lifts but mainly for the wonderful staff.
