Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed every moment. The hotel’s location is close to all the must see attractions. The restaurants and hotel bar have some delightful options. The staff provided excellent service at all time. I look forward to staying here next time I am in St. Petersburg.

We have stayed at some lovely hotels throughout Europe, but this hotel was one of the best. Our stay was memorable, and we were treated impeccably as valued guests. Our next to visit to St. Petersburg will include a stay at the Hotel Europa as it is known locally.

I stayed at the Belmond Grand for eight days, from 27 November until 4 December, the third year in a row to celebrate my birthday in grand style! This was my fifth trip to this hotel in just two years! As usual, my welcome at reception along with the pleasant surprises of fruits and chocolates (the latter produced by the hotel itself!) deposited in my room at regular intervals throughout my stay was superb! Oh yes! The Belmond Grand does roll out the red carpet and spoil its repeat guests, with all staffers joining in the grand display of hospitality and with the tendency, too, to remember its guests' names and preferences. My room upgrade was splendid, with a commanding view of the Russian Museum across from Art Square. Overall, The higher level of professionalism of the Belmond staffers is the number one prize of this hotel and without a doubt, its concierges are among the finest of all the grand hotels I have stayed. They seem never to consider any task too menial to attend to. For that I have to personally thank the two Annas, Natalie, Marie, Polina and the other members of that fine group of professionals who assisted me in so many different ways during this and all my previous visits! Best of all, for late dozers like me, there is no need to worry if you will oversleep and end up dashing down to the Mezzanine only at 10:30, which is the closing time on weekdays, for you will never be met at the door of the breakfast room with, "Please order in-room dining!", as I have experienced at other top-rated hotels. Thank you to the Elenas, my dear darling Victoria, Galina and the other members of that team for keeping me properly fed on such fateful days! The Belmond Grand shall remain my little Heaven on Earth, away from home! All should try to live the Belmond experience, for it is worth every penny, so to speak!

My wife and myself went to St Petersbourg for a 5 day long stay. The city is beautiful. Its heritage from the emperial times is unique (the collections of the Ermitage, the palaces, cathedrals, etc. are worth the trip). We stayed at the Grand Hotel Europe during our stay and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel is situated in a beautiful historical building dating back to the 1880s! It is ideally located, a few minutes walking distance from the main historical sites. The service was perfect: courteous, professional, charming. Our room was confortable and quiet. The breakfast was a feast worthy of a tsar! We went there in the low season (mid-November) and the price was cheap for a hotel of that quality.
