Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.

The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

Location location location! This historical residence is spectacular. Close to Nevsky prospect and across the conservatory. A short 10 minutes walk to the Hermitage. Rooms are spacious. Well maintained. Only sound proofing could be a bit better, I could hear my neighbors. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Large choice of food including favorite blinis with red caviar. Not 5 stars as service in beautiful atrium cafe was exceptionally slow, we had to ask to clean the table and then for menus and then to order...at 16:00 in ten afternoon. Great concierge service to book excursions and Hermitage tickets without the queue. Will certainly return

Stayed here for 5 nights in July. The room was spacious overlooking Arts Square and very comfortable There was an excellent choice at breakfast and the room was amazing we even had a pianist playing for 3 of the mornings. The hotel bar is expensive but that's what you would expect . There was entertainment on each night in the bar . The checking in process was one of the best we have experienced . The concierge staff were very helpful. as were all the staff. Overall a very enjoyable stay Well Done !!!!

A perfect location for our five day holiday in St Petersburg. The room was immaculate, the hotel facilities impeccable, the staff friendly and always helpful. Make sure you reserve room plus breakfast! The breakfast location, and the vast choice of food was the best we, as experienced travellers, have ever had the pleasure to indulge in. For the inexperienced traveller, the beds seem hard compared to typical hotels, but in reality they are very comfortable to sleep in, excellent for the back, and for a romantic holiday the firmness offered some delightful advantages. The hotel maintains the Belmond tradition for excellence in detail. Thoroughly recommended

This Hotel needs to wake up and enter the 21 century. If the price was half of what they are charging it would be a fair deal but at 800 dollars a night it's a ripoff. And they have the nerve to charge an extra 150 dollars per couple for breakfast. Only a few rooms have been renovated and of course they want to charge you more for them even when they are sitting empty and available. I have a suggestion for the owners: walk over to the Four Seasons. Or Fly to London and Check out what you get for 500 bucks at the Ned Hotel and drool.
