Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg, Russia
Crossing the threshold of Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg is like walking into a film noir. It resonates with drama, seduction and a bit of suspense. The hotel dates back to the 1820s, but its interiors - retooled at the most recent turn of the century - embrace the Art Nouveau movement. History abounds within its walls. Tchaikovsky honeymooned beneath its storied roof and George Bernard Shaw broke bread here with Maxim Gorky. The hotel also served as a hospital and orphanage before its painstaking restoration went underway in 1989. Today, it is one of Russia's most prized landmarks and is acclaimed by travel editors worldwide.
The rooms and suites have a formal setting with antiques and period-style furnishings that boast rich and textured fabrics, framing oversize windows and cloaking cushy beds. Some suites have sitting rooms, while others have Juliet-style balconies adorned with iron balustrades. With five restaurants, a pair of cafés and a bar stocked with the finest Russian vodka, you will always be satisfied while staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Menus are graced with Russian fare and complemented with international offerings that include French, Italian and Asian specialties. Caviar also plays an instrumental role when it comes to the hotel's culinary offerings. Centrally poised along Nevsky Prospekt, one of the city's most remarkable thoroughfares, you will be within walking distance to many of Russia's monumental landmarks, renowned ballet and theaters. With warm Russian hospitality, impressive architecture and exceptional service, Belmond Grand Hotel Europe makes for an unforgettable experience.

Reviews for Belmond Grand Hotel Europe
Decent hotel but furnishings are outdated and the air conditioning is limited. I believe like many other Russian buildings the temperature is controlled by the government and the thermostat on the wall doesn't work. The hotel is ideally located on main city street and houses several good restaurants including the Azia Asian restaurant which I would highly recommend.
The Belmond Grand is indeed a grand historic hotel with a rich history, excellent service, and very convenient location. The design reflects the "charm" of a large hotel that has gone through a long and complex history with many intriguing and elegant spaces, and corridors perhaps a little long and some rooms perhaps a little compact by today's standards. We experienced extraordinary service, an amazing array of high quality dining options (some with entertainment), and a highly functional, well maintained room. It was a short stroll to interesting shopping, great ballet, fine museums, historic Churches.... We did not want to leave after our four night stay!

Wanted to stay in nice hotel that wasn't the four season and in more "local" area. Defiantly found it. Great room with balcony overlooking Russian museum. Near main boulevard and easy to walk to hermitage etc. also concierge was helpful in getting guides/opera tickets etc. Breakfast was funny with harp player in grand room and samovar for tea. Got a kick out of it. Rooms were well kept/clean and comfortable. Overall loved my choice and happy I didn't stay at four seasons. Same quality without being generic.

Where do you start to speak about this hotel. Firstly my wife and I chose to come to St Petersburg to see Bastille in concert. My wife found a package through Voyage Prive that included flights, transfers, hotel and guided tours. We were so pleased it was the Belmond Grand hotel. From the moment we stepped out of the taxi we were welcomed with smiling faces. All the staff could not do enough for you and were always happy to achieve your goals. Nothing was too much trouble or effort. Everything from the moment we walked through the lobby was excellent. The room was ever so comfortable, breakfast was out of this world with so much to choose from and even the piano music was different to what we are used to. The décor was lovely. The faint pleasant scented aroma throughout and how extremely clean and tidy everything was. Exploring St Petersburg was also great from the Bastille concert to eating out to the museums palaces and churches. Our home flight transfer never turned up, but the concierge desk dealt with the situation even though it was not their issue but Voyage Prive's. It was not too much trouble at all and my wife and I would like to thank everyone that made our stay at the Belmond Grand Hotel so very special indeed. The staff even remembered our name and room numbers which was always impressive.
