Reviews for Hastings House Country House Hotel
This almost lives up to its reputation. With its Relais et Chateau designation you'd expect at least that, and given the high standard to which it lays claim, I am tempted to cut my impression of its overall rating from 5 stars to 4, although that seems a bit harsh. Of the 4 meals in total that we enjoyed there, one (duck) was a little dry, the restaurant has piped music (which I dislike) and the waiters make an unnecessary amount of noise clearing tables and so on. But we found the staff all extremely friendly and helpful, and the grounds, the buildings and the general level of comfort are excellent. So, 5 stars it is...

My husband and I stayed one night during the Easter weekend, and wished we could have stayed longer. What a gem of a place this is! Every room is individually designed and furnished. The property is tastefully built into the landscape, so walkways and steps curve around the natural rock face. The rooms have names, not numbers (we stayed in Heather). We had dinner the night we arrived. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, and the chef raised a lovely meal for us--we're vegetarian so that was particularly appreciated. A chocolate chip muffin arrived in the morning. Breakfast and afternoon tea is included in the room price. The hotel is only a short walk to town. There's a spa, and the Salt Spring Adventures Co is right next door. The young woman at the reception desk gave us fantastic hiking recommendations. It's pricey, sure, but there's not another place quite like it.

I stayed at Hastings House for the Easter long weekend in April 2017 and I had a most wonderful experience. The property is very unique and has lots of character. No cookie cutter hotel rooms here! I was in the Sealoft which is a beautiful loft room with a view of the harbour, a queen bed and a nice sitting area with two arm chairs. It also has a brick fireplace, several skylights (including in the bathroom), and several wood beams. It was very quaint and had nice character. The bathroom was very spacious and although it could use some updating, it was nevertheless very nice, clean and everything worked well. The hotel is in a great location, about 10 minutes walking distance from downtown Ganges, and right next to Salt Spring Adventures Co. (I recommend them for kayaking tours, whale watching, renting kayaks and bikes, etc.). Every morning you receive a complimentary muffin in a cute little hamper just hanging outside your door. Adorable and a nice touch! Also included in the room cost was a full breakfast (with lots of delicious options) and high tea in the afternoon. What more could you want? The food was delicious and they offered enough choices so I didn't feel like going somewhere else for dinner, especially after being out and about all day long. They also offered a free shuttle from/to the ferry or seaplane, which I took both ways, and was very convenient. I found the staff very friendly, helpful and accommodating. They were able to accommodate my early check-in at 10am (normally it is 3pm) and a later check-out at 2:30pm (instead of 11am), which I was very grateful for. All in all, I had a wonderful stay and I recommend them wholeheartedly! I'd love to go back for another stay.

My wife has dreamed of going to Hastings house for a weekend and we were finally able to make it this winter. In fact we made it for a rather special time -- with a rare snowfall in the Gulf Islands. It was the perfect location - and our stay in the Hawthorne room was romantic. The hotel is just past the small town of Ganges and a nice walk in the afternoon -- just the right saunter there and back t enjoy the included afternoon tea. I am already planning the next visit. Cannot wait to return.

Hastings House property is beautiful in the summer, but it is quite charming in the fall too. Apart from the authentic farm buildings and manor house and sheep and meadows, there is the view of the harbour. There is a fire burning while one takes tea in the afternoon. There is excellent service at dinner. There is a hearty breakfast to help store up energy for walks in the countryside. If we could have asked for something as an improvement, more bath products. A trivial matter though.
