Hotel room smelled like kitty litter and the rest of the hotel smelled funky as well

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I really like Hyatt hotels and have never had a poor experience until visiting this one. The only positive of the hotel is the location, you are in the Gaslamp district and are within walking distance of everything. The cons...this hotel needs to revisit their cleaning protocol, my room literally smelled like kitty litter. Honestly the entire hotel smelled funky and their method of covering it up with bleach was not helping. I did ask Guest Services to investigate the smell but their fix was bleach poured into my shower. I realize this hotel is pet friendly, however I have stayed in other pet friendly hotels and never had to deal with such a funk.

Hotel cleaning staff stole laptop from my room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

The house cleaners stole my laptop while I stayed at this hotel during tableau conference in 2024. I cannot recommend anyone to stay at this hotel or the safety of your belongings in the room. Please use the safety deposit box if for some ungodly reason you need to stay at this hotel. I have evidence of my laptop being taken while I was away from the hotel. There are find my iPhone notifications which clearly show my MacBook being left in the room. After entering my room after the conference (the room cleaned), my laptop is missing. Somehow after 2 years of owning this laptop, it disappears from the face of the earth after a house cleaner enters on find my iPhone. I am pursuing all sorts of avenues for a resolution, including police + legal action. Please be weary of your belongings. Do not trust any staff members with your valuables. There are NO CAMERAS except for in the lobby and rooftop. There are also outdated locks on the doors which do not show detailed information on who enters your room. Please, lock your valuables or you will be in for a roller coaster of an experience. I really regret staying here.

On par or worse than a Hyatt House/Place save your money and stay somewhere else

This is one of the worst Hyatt properties I have stayed at. Every part of my trip was terrible. The rooftop is unfinished/unfurnished, the rooms are terrible, it smells terrible in the rooms and hallways, and the valet driver will lose the keys to your car.

Subpar experience

Not up to Andaz standards. Arrived at 2 pm only to be told it’s “so early” and the room wasn’t yet ready- okay, fine, I get checkin is at 4. Get my room - standard queen- and actually laughed out loud. It is lined up precisely with, and looks directly into, another room only about 15 feet away. With the shower facing the window and the bathroom separated from the room by a wall of clear glass, the only way to have privacy is to close the curtains and eliminate all natural light. Okay. I get unpacked and notice the furnishings are really worn- the desk is peeling and the metal surfaces have changed finish. More like a budget motel than the Andaz’s I’ve stayed at before. Also- My shoes are sticking to the tile floor. Fine, I’ll just wipe it down- except then I realize there are no towels, just a bath mat. And someone else’s room key on the shelf above the coffeemaker. Ok- I’ll just call to get some. Except the phone, despite being plugged into the wall, doesn’t work and has no dial tone. Really surprised at the quality here.
