Excellent service, initially a bit hard to find for us. We were immediately greeted when we walked in, and the gentleman in the front was kind enough to let us know how to get to the Balboa theater. Would stay here again.

I had booked my maternity photoshoot in San Diego so my husband and I drove down from Los Angeles and stayed1 night at the Keating. We had gotten a great last minute deal (especially considering it was Memorial Day weekend) through a 3rd party website so I just assumed we would be assigned their most basic room. Daniel was the representative who checked us In. I had read reviews prior to our arrival and noticed that people complained about the noise from a nearby club. I asked if it would be possible to get a quiet room on a high floor - fully expecting this request to be denied considering it was a last minute 3rs party reservation. However Daniel was fully sympathetic to my pregnant plight and not only found us a nice quiet room but also gave us a substantial upgrade! When we opened the door to our room I was floored by the spaciousness of it. Although the style was not my forte it was no less a beautiful room perfect for inviting family/friends to party/explore downtown SD. My only negative with this hotel is no room service but they have a great breakfast place connected to the hotel on the first floor.

Upon entry, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. It's a wonderful experience until you get to the room. The room was pretty old, worn out and had a mirror on the ceiling. It didn't warrant the weekend price hike.

This place was just a little off on everything. When I first came in I didn't feel comfortable taking my shoes off because of the concrete floor. I wish they gave me slippers to walk around in. The room felt very industrial; the bathrooms/faucet setup felt like i was staying inside a kitchen? The detachable shower head was leaking when I took a shower, no biggie. I had to do some work at night and there wasn't a desk light to use; I had to use the ceiling light while my girlfriend was asleep; not a deal breaker but a minor inconvenience. The coffee machine was too hard to figure out how to use; I just want a simple cup of coffee. Everything felt like this hotel was great a couple of years ago but the rooms were never really updated or maintained since the early 2000's. People think that it gets loud at night; yes it does but I didn't feel it was too loud from the 3rd floor. And I was right above the pub. But then again I'm a pretty deep sleeper :) Front desk was very professional and courteous. Overall not a great experience but not a bad one.

This place is right in the middle of Gaslamp. A great location if that is where you would like to be. Also walking distance to the Embarcadero and Petco Park. We thought that noise would be an issue with the pub being on the main level, but it was fine from our 3rd level room. Be sure to ask the accommodating staff if you are planning an excursion, as they will likely have a discount for you.
