We had an amazing stay at this modern and comfortable hotel. Daniel was just as polite in person as he was on the phone when our reservations were made. We are hoping to stay at this wonderful establishment again.

room need some maintenance: shower hose leaks and one handle was broken, walls need to be cleaned or painted. Very good location and customer service. It is a different type of hotel, no doors for bath room or shower. Everything is in the one room - open concept. Noisy at night - surrounding clubs - hear music all night until closing

We stayed here for a long weekend for the first time in San Diego. Not knowing anything about the area, we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and the location. Location: its right on the corner of fifth avenue, so if if you want be able to have easy access while party on fifth, this is a good spot. Similarly, the sound can carry from the neighboring bar during peak times. The rooms are designed well in the sense that they have modern window casings around the historical frames to cut down on the noise while retaining the historical look. There is a shopping plaza basically across the street. You can walk to Petco Park. You can walk to Balboa park although its uphill. You can walk to the USS Midway. You can walk to...well you get the idea. Rooms: We stayed the Chic Loft suite. This room was huge. Tons of seating. I don't know what you would do with it all, maybe invite 15 of your friends over for pregame. Probably more space than you need for one night, but really nice if you are there for multiple nights. There is a lot of clever storage (roll out closet, drawers under the bed, box at the foot of the bed). Complimentary bathrobe and umbrella for use as well. The in room espresso machine was a bonus!!! House keeping will bring you more pods if you need them. Bang and Olufsen tv and sound (tv was a little older). Music played through the TV sounds great and fills the room. I was very impressed with the sound quality and how balance the sound fills the space. I wanted to invite 15 of my friends over for a pregame party. The beds were very comfortable. The shower area was a lot of fun. Big enough for four (just saying) with a wand and a water fall heads and a mirror in the ceiling. The only issue we had was that the blinds were a little rough to raise up and down (blackouts) and some of the seating was a little dirty. Staff: The staff was great. From the valets, to the front desk to housekeeping. Everyone was polite and professional. I recommend having a conversation with Denzel at the front desk if you are planning to venture beyond the gas lamp district. He'll tell you about all the different neighbor hoods and what's available based on your interests and is really easy to talk to (Crack Shack, look it up, you won't be disappointed!). Extra: They have a fitness room and a business center. I didn't use the business center. The fitness room was light on equipment. Go for a walk, it's San Diego!

It was a little odd when I pulled up at the curb, walked in and the small desk that was just inside the entrance turned out to be not the parking valet area but the main reception desk. I was sure there must've been a "normal" reception area somewhere else and I had just entered a secondary entrance but no, this was it. Once I wrapped my brain around the fact that this is a very unusual, small boutique hotel, I got it - and it was fine. Then I took the elevator to the Macallan Suite. The hallways are also odd - a little Shining - but once you get inside the rooms, at least MY room; WOW. Spectacular. Totally unique. Excellent double-pane windows which block out all sound. Very cozy bed, great shower and bathtub, plenty of space. The only downsides are that the hotel has no food and is the area right outside the hotel is a little dicey at night. During the day, fine. The little coffee kiosk downstairs right outside the hotel is fantastic.
