We stayed at Paradise while visiting the San Diego Zoo and had a blast. It is super kid friendly. We only used the main pool because it has its own food (Mexican cantina) and a little stand where you can buy rafts (they pump them up for you free of charge at the bike shop) but I believe there are several pools. The beach is all around--it's on Mission Bay which is quiet and pretty with very soft sand. I didn't see a lot of people swimming there but you can rent boats and it's a popular spot at night for toasting marshmallows around the campires. There is a cool observation tower with a spiral staircase that you can climb for a great view. You can borrow equipment for bocce ball, ping pong and croquet at the very convenient Island Store which is open til 9pm (great when you realize you forgot your toothbrush and saline solution. They also sell ice cream!) For an extra fee you can play miniature golf (a pretty minor course, but still fun) or rent bicycles that can carry the whole family. On weekends they have "dive-in" movies - family movies shown at the pool and you can watch them from your raft. There's a free golf cart shuttle that will take you anywhere on the property, which we found very helpful getting home from the restaurants at night. And speaking of restaurants - the food was surprisingly good for such a kid-friendly place. We tried the waterfront Barefoot Bar & Grill for both breakfast and dinner and it was delish. The fine dining restaurant Tidal next door is really pretty and actually has a kids prix fixe menu that starts with a cheese & crackers appetizer - how brilliant is that? We didn't have a chance to try Caveman pizza but next time for sure. Almost everyone we encountered on the staff was knowledgeable and friendly with the strange exception of the women who checked us in. She was nice enough and quick but told us exactly zero about the resort and we had to play catch up. The room was nice and clean but I was expecting a little more given that we sprang for a Lanai room with a patio. Unfortunately the patio was just a patch of grass that opened up into a parking lot so not safe for our little kids to run around. If we came back I would spring for a bay room and enjoy greater proximity to the beach. I did appreciate that housekeeping delivered our crib right away and made it easy to travel with little ones.

This could be a really cool resort. It is in a beautiful location, but other than that I'm not sure how they justify the price of their rooms. A lot of the other guests were families with young children and I think that is mainly the market this hotel caters to. The adult pool (we didn't check the others) and hot tub were both extremely dirty and were being used by the local ducks as a splash pool. A lot of the walkways on the property are dirty with duck poo and need a good hose down. As far as the rooms, our "premier king" didn't have a view and didn't reallly seem that different than the regular rooms. Our room was clean-ish, but needed paint and plaster patching and some of the furniture was a bit worn. We found a roach in our bathroom and cut our stay short by two nights. Room service was somewhat more expensive than it usually is (about $50 for a lox bagel and 2 OJs) and we were told by the guy who delivered our food that the service fee, delivery fee and minimum wage surcharge tacked on to our bill did not include his tip. I find that a little outrageous.

The location of Paradise Point is great. The tropical grounds are also great. We visited 2 pools during our family stay and really enjoyed both of them. Our rooms were bayside bungalows along the water. We had 2 families staying and we asked to be next to each other. We were next to each other as we shared an adjoining wall but we were not truly next to each other. They have suites across from each other where both suites share a lawn area. That would have met our needs much better. In order to get from one of our suites to another we had to traverse a narrow ledge area along the front of our building, not convenient. The rooms needs some maintenance. They were clean but not in good repair. And the air conditioners were far too noisy. Staff was great but I'm not sure if we'll plan our family vacation here next year or not. Very conflicted because the area was so great, just not the room locations and the overall condition of the rooms.

Loved the atmosphere and ambience. Great for business or pleasure. Everyone was always smiling and felt as if they enjoyed doing their job. Food was great at all the restaurants on the resort. The water rides were also fun. I also used the workout room and it offered many amenities for a workout. The weather was perfect and made for many outdoor ventures in and around the resort. .

Everything costs extra. Each room has its own parking space, so not sure why we had to pay $40 a night to use it. The only thing that was included in the $30 a day 'play' fee was access to the pools. I think we would go back and give it another try, but would be more prepared to pay for all the extras.
